Download or read book Craft An Argument written by Pete Brown and published by Storm Lantern Publications. This book was released on 2020-06-25 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The craft beer boom is the biggest thing to hit brewing and drinking for more than a generation. What started off as a small band of idealistic hobby brewers is now a multi-billion-dollar global industry, but even its most passionate fans can’t actually agree what ‘craft beer’ is, with some arguing that it’s simply marketing hype, and others claiming it doesn’t exist at all. Award-winning beer writer Pete Brown digs into this decades-long argument and in doing so, creates a fascinating, complex and hugely satisfying answer. He dismantles the main attempts to define the term ‘craft beer’ and argues that it is, in fact, undefinable, before shifting emphasis from beer to the broader, older idea of craft in search of answers. He shows that arguments around craft beer have largely forgotten what craft is all about – if they were even aware in the first place. He explores the ever-changing nature of work, the meaning of knowledge, the evolution of language and the ways in which we engage with our immediate environment and the wider world. Arriving back at beer from such an oblique angle, he rediscovers the real reasons why so many people are so passionate about craft beer, and argues that situating beer in a broader understanding of craft shows that the term is rich in meaning, even if it can’t be pinned down to a measurable definition. Written in Brown’s trademark pub stool conversational style, Craft: An Argument provides a new perspective on the biggest trend in global food and drink, as well as making you long for a beer.

Download or read book Brewing in Montana written by Ryan Newhouse and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2022-10-03 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Montana can trace its brewing roots back more than 150 years to when a barrel of beer was brewed in Virginia City and carried to the town saloon. Since then, Montana has seen breweries large and small erupt along cattle trails and at train stations and riverside trading posts. Some of the brewers and breweries set in Montana were the foundations of future, national-brand breweries, having unique ties to Olympia Brewing and Pabst Brewing Company. And like many other states across the country, Montana was not immune to Prohibition, though not every brewer laid down without a fight. The breweries in the Big Sky state showed resilience when needed, but more so, they were reflections of the diverse communities and economies the state fostered. Fortunately, when Montana's mines began to dry up, agriculture took over, and even in the early 20th century, state officials documented in the Seventh Annual Report 1900-1901 that Montana could be "one the chief beer producing states in the nation" because of the amount of barley growing on the land.

Book excerpt: At the height of Australia s 1970s recession, two young men leave home seeking fame and fortune. They travel through Queensland s outback looking for work and arrive in Mount Isa, near broke. The city takes them in and so begins the adventure of creating their lives in the remote, rough and tumble environment of one of Australia s biggest mining communities. Set in among the hot, dry and arid landscape of Queensland s Gulf Country, the two newcomers discover both the delights and difficulties of living far inland from their coastal origins. A variety of jobs take them to places that few people would have ever experienced, from prospecting deep in the bush to dark, damp mines located thousands of metres underground. Mates is a great story infused with warm Australian characteristics and humour. The region s great mining history, Aboriginal people and extraordinary bushland have all been thoroughly researched and richly described by author Stephen Outram.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was torn from my shattered life, claimed by someone who referred to me as their mate, only to find myself falling for another. The one I should fear and hide from—the Alpha. But how could I resist when the very monster that haunted my nightmares turned out to be my mate? I used to take pride in my self-control, but now, with this growing mate bond inside me, restraint seemed impossible. The desperation in my core became an unwinnable battle, and I grew tired of the constant fight. I was weary of keeping this hidden part of myself locked away. Leaning back, I searched his gaze for something—a response to a question I couldn't articulate. Despite my yearning to push him away, to long for the Alpha's touch instead, it was my mate's caress that brought me back to the present. Electric tingles danced across my skin, and anticipation caused my core to tighten, waiting for what would come next. In a moment I never anticipated, I uttered the one thing I never wanted to say: "Don't stop." "Never," my mate growled in response. "Falling for My Mate's Alpha" is a dark fantasy romance that explores deep desires and complex emotions, while also containing multiple triggers. This is book 1 of the werewolf story.
