Book Boundary Value Problems Weyl Functions and Differential Operators

Download or read book Boundary Value Problems Weyl Functions and Differential Operators written by Jussi Behrndt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-03 with total page 772 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book presents a comprehensive survey of modern operator techniques for boundary value problems and spectral theory, employing abstract boundary mappings and Weyl functions. It includes self-contained treatments of the extension theory of symmetric operators and relations, spectral characterizations of selfadjoint operators in terms of the analytic properties of Weyl functions, form methods for semibounded operators, and functional analytic models for reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. Further, it illustrates these abstract methods for various applications, including Sturm-Liouville operators, canonical systems of differential equations, and multidimensional Schrödinger operators, where the abstract Weyl function appears as either the classical Titchmarsh-Weyl coefficient or the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map. The book is a valuable reference text for researchers in the areas of differential equations, functional analysis, mathematical physics, and system theory. Moreover, thanks to its detailed exposition of the theory, it is also accessible and useful for advanced students and researchers in other branches of natural sciences and engineering.

Book Understanding Boundary Value Problems Weyl Functions and Differential Operators Volume 1

Download or read book Understanding Boundary Value Problems Weyl Functions and Differential Operators Volume 1 written by Williams Gerald and published by Murphy & Moore Publishing. This book was released on 2021-11-16 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boundary value problems are differential equations with a set of additional constraints, called the boundary conditions. A solution which satisfies the boundary conditions is a solution to the boundary value problem and the differential equation. The Weyl distance function behaves in some ways like the distance function of a metric space. It takes values in a group of reflections, instead of taking values in the positive real numbers. This group of reflections is called the Weyl group. A differential operator is a function of the differentiation operator, also known as the derivative. Differentiation can be considered as an abstract operation that accepts a function and returns another function. This book provides significant information of this discipline to help develop a good understanding of boundary value problems, Weyl functions, differential operators and related fields. It presents this complex subject in the most comprehensible and easy to understand language. Constant effort has been made in this book, using case studies and examples, to make the understanding of these difficult concepts of mathematics as easy and informative as possible to the readers.

Book Boundary Value Problems for Elliptic Systems

Download or read book Boundary Value Problems for Elliptic Systems written by J. T. Wloka and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1995-07-28 with total page 659 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of boundary value problems for elliptic systems of partial differential equations has many applications in mathematics and the physical sciences. The aim of this book is to "algebraize" the index theory by means of pseudo-differential operators and new methods in the spectral theory of matrix polynomials. This latter theory provides important tools that will enable the student to work efficiently with the principal symbols of the elliptic and boundary operators on the boundary. Because many new methods and results are introduced and used throughout the book, all the theorems are proved in detail, and the methods are well illustrated through numerous examples and exercises. This book is ideal for use in graduate level courses on partial differential equations, elliptic systems, pseudo-differential operators, and matrix analysis.

Book Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Partial Differential Equations written by Aleksei A. Dezin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let me begin by explaining the meaning of the title of this book. In essence, the book studies boundary value problems for linear partial differ ential equations in a finite domain in n-dimensional Euclidean space. The problem that is investigated is the question of the dependence of the nature of the solvability of a given equation on the way in which the boundary conditions are chosen, i.e. on the supplementary requirements which the solution is to satisfy on specified parts of the boundary. The branch of mathematical analysis dealing with the study of boundary value problems for partial differential equations is often called mathematical physics. Classical courses in this subject usually consider quite restricted classes of equations, for which the problems have an immediate physical context, or generalizations of such problems. With the expanding domain of application of mathematical methods at the present time, there often arise problems connected with the study of partial differential equations that do not belong to any of the classical types. The elucidation of the correct formulation of these problems and the study of the specific properties of the solutions of similar equations are closely related to the study of questions of a general nature.

Book Generalized Inverse Operators

Download or read book Generalized Inverse Operators written by Alexander Andreevych Boichuk and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-08-22 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is devoted to the foundations of the theory of boundary-value problems for various classes of systems of differential-operator equations whose linear part is represented by Fredholm operators of the general form. A common point of view on numerous classes of problems that were traditionally studied independently of each other enables us to study, in a natural way, the theory of these problems, to supplement and improve the existing results, and in certain cases, study some of these problems for the first time. With the help of the technique of generalized inverse operators, the Vishik– Lyusternik method, and iterative methods, we perform a detailed investigation of the problems of existence, bifurcations, and branching of the solutions of linear and nonlinear boundary-value problems for various classes of differential-operator systems and propose new procedures for their construction. For more than 11 years that have passed since the appearance of the first edition of the monograph, numerous new publications of the authors in this direction have appeared. In this connection, it became necessary to make some additions and corrections to the previous extensively cited edition, which is still of signifi cant interest for the researchers. For researchers, teachers, post-graduate students, and students of physical and mathematical departments of universities. Contents: Preliminary Information Generalized Inverse Operators in Banach Spaces Pseudoinverse Operators in Hilbert Spaces Boundary-Value Problems for Operator Equations Boundary-Value Problems for Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations Impulsive Boundary-Value Problems for Systems of Ordinary Differential Equations Solutions of Differential and Difference Systems Bounded on the Entire Real Axis

Book Perturbation of the Boundary in Boundary Value Problems of Partial Differential Equations

Download or read book Perturbation of the Boundary in Boundary Value Problems of Partial Differential Equations written by Dan Henry and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-05-26 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perturbation of the boundary is a rather neglected topic in the study of partial differential equations, in part because it often entails long and difficult caluclations. In this book, first published in 2005, the author carefully discusses a calculus that overcomes the computational morass, and he goes on to develop more general forms of standard theorems, helping to answer a problems involving boundary perturbations.

Book Linear Differential Operators

Download or read book Linear Differential Operators written by Cornelius Lanczos and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1997-12-01 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1961, this Classics edition continues to be appealing because it describes a large number of techniques still useful today. Although the primary focus is on the analytical theory, concrete cases are cited to forge the link between theory and practice. Considerable manipulative skill in the practice of differential equations is to be developed by solving the 350 problems in the text. The problems are intended as stimulating corollaries linking theory with application and providing the reader with the foundation for tackling more difficult problems. Lanczos begins with three introductory chapters that explore some of the technical tools needed later in the book, and then goes on to discuss interpolation, harmonic analysis, matrix calculus, the concept of the function space, boundary value problems, and the numerical solution of trajectory problems, among other things. The emphasis is constantly on one question: "What are the basic and characteristic properties of linear differential operators?" In the author's words, this book is written for those "to whom a problem in ordinary or partial differential equations is not a problem of logical acrobatism, but a problem in the exploration of the physical universe. To get an explicit solution of a given boundary value problem is in this age of large electronic computers no longer a basic question. But of what value is the numerical answer if the scientist does not understand the peculiar analytical properties and idiosyncrasies of the given operator? The author hopes that this book will help in this task by telling something about the manifold aspects of a fascinating field."

Book Boundary Value Problems with Global Projection Conditions

Download or read book Boundary Value Problems with Global Projection Conditions written by Xiaochun Liu and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents boundary value problems for arbitrary elliptic pseudo-differential operators on a smooth compact manifold with boundary. In this regard, every operator admits global projection boundary conditions, giving rise to analogues of Toeplitz operators in subspaces of Sobolev spaces on the boundary associated with pseudo-differential projections. The book describes how these operator classes form algebras, and establishes the concept for Boutet de Monvel’s calculus, as well as for operators on manifolds with edges, including the case of operators without the transmission property. Further, it shows how the calculus contains parametrices of elliptic elements. Lastly, the book describes natural connections to ellipticity of Atiyah-Patodi-Singer type for Dirac and other geometric operators, in particular spectral boundary conditions with Calderón-Seeley projections and the characterization of Cauchy data spaces.

Book Elliptic Boundary Problems for Dirac Operators

Download or read book Elliptic Boundary Problems for Dirac Operators written by Bernhelm Booß-Bavnbek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elliptic boundary problems have enjoyed interest recently, espe cially among C* -algebraists and mathematical physicists who want to understand single aspects of the theory, such as the behaviour of Dirac operators and their solution spaces in the case of a non-trivial boundary. However, the theory of elliptic boundary problems by far has not achieved the same status as the theory of elliptic operators on closed (compact, without boundary) manifolds. The latter is nowadays rec ognized by many as a mathematical work of art and a very useful technical tool with applications to a multitude of mathematical con texts. Therefore, the theory of elliptic operators on closed manifolds is well-known not only to a small group of specialists in partial dif ferential equations, but also to a broad range of researchers who have specialized in other mathematical topics. Why is the theory of elliptic boundary problems, compared to that on closed manifolds, still lagging behind in popularity? Admittedly, from an analytical point of view, it is a jigsaw puzzle which has more pieces than does the elliptic theory on closed manifolds. But that is not the only reason.

Book Boundary Value Problems For Fractional Differential Equations And Systems

Download or read book Boundary Value Problems For Fractional Differential Equations And Systems written by Bashir Ahmad and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-02-18 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the study of existence of solutions or positive solutions for various classes of Riemann-Liouville and Caputo fractional differential equations, and systems of fractional differential equations subject to nonlocal boundary conditions. The monograph draws together many of the authors' results, that have been obtained and highly cited in the literature in the last four years. In each chapter, various examples are presented which support the main results. The methods used in the proof of these theorems include results from the fixed point theory and fixed point index theory. This volume can serve as a good resource for mathematical and scientific researchers, and for graduate students in mathematics and science interested in the existence of solutions for fractional differential equations and systems.
