This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Boston University Calendar, 1915 The first Boston University Calendar may be left to speak for itself without any words of introduction. We hope that it will call out the same loyal response from its readers that it has done from its contributors. In behalf of Boston University Women Graduates' Club I wish to thank the President and the other busy educators from our own University and other educational centers, who have given us their valuable help. We would especially include in this word of thanks the friend who selected so many quotations from Professor Bowne's writings. Also allow me personally to thank the Committee of the Whole who have so cordially co-operated with me in the preparation of this Calendar. The original plan to limit each contribution to fifty words or less was necessarily abandoned because of the unavoidable loss of much valuable material. The reader can readily understand that this change in our plans compelled us to sacrifice many birthdays on account of the brevity or length of the contributed thoughts. We greatly regret that an overabundance of splendid material reached us too late for insertion in the calendar. We decided to attach the degrees to the name of each contributor, because in this way we could specify to the reader the w'orkers in the different departments of our University, also the niches in life that our graduates and special students are so ably filling. It will be noticed that some of the thoughts have no signatures. The contributors will not be so modest, I am sure, if another similar invitation is extended to them. We wish to assure you that although many are the builders of this calendar, they are one in their love and devotion to our University. If, in spite of earnest effort, errors have crept in, we crave your indulgence. Indicates birthday of contributor and has been credited as nearly as possible to the first contribution received for that day. Indicates member Boston University Women Graduates' Club. (B. U.) After degrees signifies that all the degrees have been conferred upon the writer by the Boston University. When several degrees are attached to the name and (B. U.) does not appear, it indicates that one or more degrees have been conferred by B. U. and the other or others by some other University or College. When the home address could not be obtained the business address has been given. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Cambridge University Calendar for the Year 1914 1915 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Cambridge University Calendar for the Year 1914 1915 Classic Reprint written by University Of Cambridge and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-01-02 with total page 1156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Cambridge University Calendar for the Year 1914-1915 Except for the year 1798, the Calendar has appeared annually since 1796. III 1803 the title was temporarily changed to The Cambridge University Register, and the following year's issue, edited by a member of the Senate, was dedicated to William Pitt and the Earl of Euston. The Calendar was printed at the University Press in 1803 and 1804, and this has also been the case from 1826 to the present time. Finally, in 1914 the proprietorship of the Work was transferred from Messrs Deighton, Bell Co. To the Syndics of the Press, who are now responsible for its publication. The last issue of the Calendar, published in October 1913, had reached unwieldy dimensions. It contained cxxiv+ 1423: 1547 pages, and was sold at 93. Net. The size of the new issue has been reduced to xxx 1034 1064 pages, and the price to 7 3. 6d. Net. This reduction has been effected (1) by transferring some 450 pp. Of Tripos Lists to The Historical Register (see next page) and retaining only the Lists for the preceding 10 years, and (2) by treating The Student's Handbook as a companion volume to The Calendar and omitting from the latter the information about examinations, etc., which the former already contains. On the other hand, the Alphabetical List of members of the University has been recast and enlarged so as to show the dates of all Degrees instead of the first Degree Only, and to give a reference to the pages of the volume 011 'which each name occurs. Complete indexes of all Titular Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates of Research have also been added, together with new sections dealing with University Representation, Administration, Legislation, and Finance. Finally, at the end of the volume, a new and fuller index has been provided. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book John Marshall

Download or read book John Marshall written by Jean Edward Smith and published by Henry Holt and Company. This book was released on 2014-03-10 with total page 788 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A New York Times Notable Book of 1996 It was in tolling the death of Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall in 1835 that the Liberty Bell cracked, never to ring again. An apt symbol of the man who shaped both court and country, whose life "reads like an early history of the United States," as the Wall Street Journal noted, adding: Jean Edward Smith "does an excellent job of recounting the details of Marshall's life without missing the dramatic sweep of the history it encompassed." Working from primary sources, Jean Edward Smith has drawn an elegant portrait of a remarkable man. Lawyer, jurist, scholars; soldier, comrade, friend; and, most especially, lover of fine Madeira, good food, and animated table talk: the Marshall who emerges from these pages is noteworthy for his very human qualities as for his piercing intellect, and, perhaps most extraordinary, for his talents as a leader of men and a molder of consensus. A man of many parts, a true son of the Enlightenment, John Marshall did much for his country, and John Marshall: Definer of a Nation demonstrates this on every page.
