Now, it is the new millennium, and Satanel has refused to give up his hold. His decision starts an unprecedented spiritual war that could very well claim the lives of every human being on Earth-unless God's warriors can stop him. God sends twelve archangels to Earth in the guise of infants born to human parents, thus escaping Satanel and his legions' notice. Their mission is to recover the gemstones originally set in the Breastplate of Aaron, which were stolen by Satanel to prevent their use in battle. With the arrival of Ariel, the twelfth archangel, the strike is ready to commence. The perilous search for the jewels is fraught with danger for men and angels as they encounter physical and magical confrontations. But when it is time for the final battle, the denizens from the various realms of air, earth, fire, and water join the fight to determine the fate of the world.

Book A Leader Born

Download or read book A Leader Born written by Alton Keith Gilbert and published by Casemate. This book was released on 2006-08-19 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This biography of one of World War II’s great military leaders is a “rich tribute to a staunch American naval hero” (WWII Quarterly). John S. “Slew” McCain was an old-school sailor. Wiry, profane, a cusser, and a gambler, he reminded more than one observer of Popeye. He was also a pioneer in the hard-hitting naval tactics that brought Imperial Japan to its knees. McCain graduated from Annapolis in 1906 and served aboard an armored cruiser in World War I. Perceiving the future of naval warfare, he earned his aviation wings in 1936, and by 1939, McCain was commander of the aircraft carrier USS Ranger. He was thus well-placed to play a leading role in America’s cut-and-thrust war with the Japanese across the broad expanses of the Pacific. In 1942, he was made commander of all land-based aircraft during the campaign for Guadalcanal. Though he took his share of blame for the disaster at Savo Island, he counterattacked with every means at his disposal, to the point of commandeering the planes of the crippled carriers Enterprise and Saratoga to reinforce US strength on Henderson Field. By the time the US returned to the Philippines, McCain was leading a fast carrier task force under William “Bull” Halsey. When asked what he thought about his carrier commander, Halsey replied, “Not much more than my right arm.” McCain’s carrier group would destroy thousands of enemy planes and hundreds of ships with aggressive swarming tactics. Four days after Japan officially surrendered, McCain died in his bed. His name has lived on, however, through his son, who became commander of US naval forces in the Pacific, and his grandson, John S. McCain III, carrier pilot, Vietnam POW, and United States Senator. Drawing upon a wealth of primary sources, including information provided by the McCain family, as well as an expert grasp of the titanic battles waged by the US armed forces in the Pacific, Alton Keith Gilbert has provided the fullest account of the Admiral John McCain’s life yet written.

Book excerpt: I’m finally settling into my new life in Chicago, but now the man who hates me most in this city knows my new secret. It seems like they just keep stacking up. I can’t tell anyone about who, or rather, what my mother was, or the entire supernatural world will have questions I don’t have answers to. So, for now, I just have to trust that Roman will keep his mouth shut. It’s time to move on. I can’t be with Mason, but it’s time for my apprenticeship with Dr. Sebastian Vincent to begin, and he’s not simply the smooth flirt I thought. For the first time in my life, I’ve met someone who knows pain and trauma in the same way I do, and it’s hard not to look at him with a fresh perspective. No one has ever really understood me, but sometimes it feels like we are two sides of the same coin. This is Chicago though, and nothing can stay “normal” for too long. A woman who was declared dead a year ago just wandered back into the hospital and whispers a word that sends chills through every member of the Night Council: necromancer. If that’s true, if that’s how this really happened, why did he come to Chicago, and who is he really looking to bring back from the dead? There are a lot of dangerous people buried in this city. Now that I’ve found people I care to protect, I’m about to learn just how savage I can become to keep them safe.

Book Born Adventurer

Download or read book Born Adventurer written by Stephen Haddelsey and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2005-09-29 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soldiers and sailors, geographers and geologists, submariners and balloonists all flocked to Antarctica during the 'Heroic Age' of Polar exploration. No one better represented this eclectic band than Frank Bickerton, engineer on Douglas Mawson's Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE) of 1911–14. A true pioneer of Antarctic exploration, he piloted the expedition's 'air-tractor', established the first crucial wireless link between Antarctica and the rest of the world, and discovered one of the first meteorites ever to be found on the continent. Treasure-hunter, explorer, fighter pilot, entrepreneur, big-game hunter and movie-maker, Bickerton not only made a major contribution to the success of the AAE, but was also recruited by Ernest Shackleton for his ill-fated Endurance Expedition, dug for pirate gold on Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, survived bloody dogfights over the Western Front during the First World War, and flirted with the glittering world of 1920s Hollywood. In Born Adventurer, historian Stephen Haddelsey draws on unique access to family papers, journals and letters to provide a thrilling account of Bickerton's rich and colourful life.
