Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This story is dedicated to all the victims of sexual slavery in German concentration camps, who had to endure inhumane suffering under the Nazi regime. For many years after the atrocities had been committed, both sides - the abusers and the abused - still vehemently denied certain aspects of the Holocaust, and even the victims refused to admit the ugly truth about their incarceration, some out of fear, some out of shame, until several women decided to break an unofficial oath of silence, and brought their stories to life. This book is based on one of those stories. Emilia is a young Jewish woman, whose life slowly turns into a nightmare as she finds herself facing a dreadful choice: to secure her family's very existence by offering herself to one of the men who had put her behind the walls with barbed wire, or perish together with the least fortunate ones. Only, the Krakow ghetto and her very first abuser pale in comparison to what is yet to come, as she's being sent to a place that soon will turn into her own personal hell and that will scar her for life...

Book Bringing Reggio Emilia Home

Download or read book Bringing Reggio Emilia Home written by Louise Boyd Cadwell and published by Teachers College Press. This book was released on 1997-09-19 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing Reggio Emilia Home is the first book to integrate the experiences of one American teacher on a year-long internship in the preschools of Reggio, with a four-year adaptation effort in one American school. The lively text includes many "mini-stories" of preschool and kindergarten-age children, teachers, and parents who embark on journeys of learning together. These journeys take shape in language, in drawings, in tempera paint and clay, in outdoor excursions, and in the imaginations of both the children and adults. This informative and accessible work features photographs of the children (both in Italy and the United States) and samples of the children’s work, including some in full colour. During the past 10 years there has been a tremendous interest among early childhood educators and parents in the innovative approaches to teaching pioneered in the preschools of Reggio Emilia, Italy. This book is a must read for anyone interested in the Reggio Approach! Teachers, especially those in early childhood, teacher educators, policy makers, administrators, and parents will find it invaluable.

  • Publisher : Createspace Independent Publishing Platform
  • Release : 2017-06-13
  • ISBN : 9781547277506
  • Pages : 406 pages

Download or read book Mag World written by Emilia Ferrara and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-06-13 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Not every woman can be a beauty, but every woman can behave like a beauty," wrote Mrs. Walter Sohier in Vogue's February issue, 1950. These words may seem ancient to the iPhone-tapping, degree-earning, Oprah-celebrating women of our day, but has the message behind these words really left us? Magazines first started earning million dollar revenues in the 1970s and yet, 40 years later, media remains a chilly, disciplined and sometimes even painful world for women - most especially, for girls. Emilia Ferrara was a captive magazine reader, pouring through every page of every issue, month after month, in her teens through to college. However, as her passion for journalism grew, her inclination to serve the female reader through female titles waned. She repelled from their frivolous narratives and unhealthy standards. As she studied at Columbia's Journalism School and began researching how the beauty, fashion and magazine industries impact young girls, she began to write her first book: Mag World. Mag World is an non-fiction text that threads together voices such as Virginia Woolf, Walter Lippman and Tina Fey. Ferrara speculates over the future of girls as readers, much like Woolf imagined the future of women writers. She challenges intricate details of modern journalistic practices, adjacent to Lippmann's review on his day. And her hopeful (and sometimes humorous) tone echoes Fey's ability to deliver a positive critique. Written with both vision and forgiveness, Mag World is a melodic call for reform, a handshake to editors and an inspiration to today's girls who stand to inherit the future.

Book Shakespeare and Emilia

    Book Details:
  • Author : Peter Bassano
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2021-12-17
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 237 pages

Download or read book Shakespeare and Emilia written by Peter Bassano and published by . This book was released on 2021-12-17 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Emilia Bassano was identified as the Dark Musical Lady of the Shakespeare Sonnets by A.L.Rowse in 1973. This book presents previously unpublished evidence to prove that Rowse's identification was correct. Emilia, an early feminist poet and musician, was the daughter of the youngest of six Venetian brothers, all professional musicians, brought to London by HenryVIII in 1540 to ensure a musical wedding for Anne of Cleves. Peter Bassano, the author and a descendent of Emilia's uncle, Anthony, suggests that Shakespeare was the father of Emilia's son, Henry. Shortly after the child's birth in May 1593 Shakespeare took a trip to Northern Italy with three of Emilia's musician cousins travelling through towns well known to Shakespeare lovers as the setting of his early plays. The book does not agree with the views of John Hudson and Peter Matthews that Emilia wrote the Shakespeare canon. He believes that Shakespeare was Shakespeare but that Emilia was hugely influential on Shakespeare's writing, particularly in his outspoken heroines. He suggests that Emilia and Shakespeare met at Bisham Abbey when Emilia had written and performed in the entertainment to welcome the Queen. Bassano believes that A Lover's Complaint published as an appendix to the Sonnets, is entirely appropriate and relates to three protagonists that he identifies in the main text. He identifies Emilia as the author of two additional works, the text for William Byrd's 1589 Songs of Sundrie Natures and 1592 masque, Speeches to Welcome the Queen to Bisham. There are strong concordances with Shakespeare's works and Emilia's. One of her sonnets in the Byrd collection, 'Of Gold all burnished like the sun' was parodied by Shakespeare in the famous Sonnet 130 'My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun'. The conclusions in this book are diametrically opposed to the conclusions in the 2020 book by Paul Edmondson and Stanley Wells, All the Sonnets of Shakespeare. The author makes the suggestion that Tennessee Williams is a descendant of Shakespeare.

Book Love and Other Sins

Download or read book Love and Other Sins written by Emilia Ares and published by Sera Press. This book was released on 2021-10-19 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mina's life is going according to plan; she's acing AP Calc and is perfectly content with her nonexistent social life. Though only a high school junior, Mina knows time is an investment, and she's putting all her capital into academics. Oliver, a child abuse survivor who grew up in the foster care system, is ready to burn down his old life and start from scratch-complete with a new name and emancipation papers-in L.A. When the two are thrown together through circumstance and develop an unexpected connection, they discover how hard it is to keep the past in the past. Love and Other Sins is an emotional coming-of-age YA drama about family, love, violence, and the residue of abuse set against the backdrop of contemporary Los Angeles. When Mina meets Oliver, you'll remember your own first love and just how fast it swept you under. What were the bonds that bound us? Was it purely physical attraction? Circumstance? Or perhaps it was a mutual gravitation toward inevitable pain. "There was something about her-her eyes. Well, not so much her eyes, physically, but more like what they said about her: she had this look-a kind of restless intensity." "It was intimate . . . a strange and beautiful feeling. We were breathing life into each other." Love and Other Sins is a moving story about what it means to be young and vulnerable in today's society. This young adult romance will make you laugh and cry and give you hope for tomorrow because there are people like Mina and Oliver who refuse to let themselves be defined by their pasts or circumstances. If you love reading books like Looking for Alaska or Thirteen Reasons Why, then this is definitely for you. Content warning: sexual assault, recollections of child abuse, discussions of suicidal thoughts, and mention of miscarriage.
