Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pedro Lopez liked hosting tea parties, with corpses as his guests. Daniel Camargo sought out virgins, and took both their virtues and their lives. Luis Garavito became sadistically violent after years of sexual abuse. In Colombia in the 1970s, '80s and '90s, these three monsters cut a swath of terror across a country already ravaged by poverty as well as the casualties of the region's powerful drug cartels. The three are among the most prolific serial killers in the world, and incredibly are believed to be responsible for nearly 1,000 murders of young boys and girls whose positions on the lower rungs of society's ladder made them especially vulnerable. These true accounts of Colombia's most sadistic of sex criminals reveal the awful price they forced the most innocent of victims to pay when their childhood betrayals turned to uncontrollable rage. These chilling true crime stories are the stuff of nightmares, and if you're not left shattered by the sheer number of victims - you'll reel when you learn how little time these madmen served for destroying the lives of so many families already struggling with hardship. It's a serial killer biography that will not only leave you stunned, but also wondering if the infamous Pedro Lopez - released after serving less than 30 years - is still alive somewhere, holding macabre tea parties with his young victims.

Book Walking Ghosts

Download or read book Walking Ghosts written by Steven Dudley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-06-01 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Walking Ghosts, Steven Dudley, a journalist who lived in Columbia for five years, expertly chronicles the life and death of the Patriotic Union (UP), the party established by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), Colombia's largest guerrilla group. Through stories of the politicians, drug kingpins, revolutionaries, and mercenaries who play key roles in Colombia's civil strife, Dudley maps out the complicated and murderous absurdity that is present-day Colombia, where daily life has devastating consequences: 30,000 murders per year, 75 political assassinations per week, 10 kidnappings a day. As the conflict gets bloodier, international pressure and influence mounts: Worried about the FARC's strength and its role in the drug trade, the United States has sent close to three billion dollars in aid to help the Colombian government fight the FARC. Steven Dudley seeks to make sense of this complicated conflict by focusing on the stories of key actors in the struggle, from the earliest days to the present. He has seen the civil war up close: dead bodies; paramilitaries; guerrillas; victims; and survivors. He has witnessed political parties grappling for power by any means necessary, and he's spoken to all sides and asked the difficult questions. Fast-paced and informative, with a new afterword by the author, Walking Ghosts presents a window into a conflict likely to shape the politics of this hemisphere for years to come.

Book excerpt: Colombian Killers - The True Stories of the Three Most Prolific Serial Killers on EarthLuis Alfredo GaravitoPedro Alonzo LopezDaniel Camargo BarbosaColombian Killers explores the stories of three men who have forever tainted the lush fields of Latin America. This book narrates the sadistic acts of serial killers Luis Alfredo Garavito, Pedro Alonzo Lopez, and Daniel Camargo Barbosa. For these men, rape, and murder were but the beginning of the horrors they inflicted upon the world. The fear their crimes inspire is not about their nature, the methodology, or even the victims. It is about who the killers themselves are. These men were motivated by perhaps the most chilling trifecta--Sex, Power and Revenge. This book begins with three parts, each dedicated to one of these three monsters of modern-day Colombia. Once you've been edified with the general knowledge of the atrocities, we will delve further into the tiny details, the forgotten horrors, the thousands of ways that we as a society failed these men and, in so doing, shaped them into be the monsters they are known as today. Luis Alfredo Garavito, Pedro Alonzo Lopez, and Daniel Camargo Barbosa are among the most prolific serial killers in the world. Between them, they were convicted of 329 murders, but it's believed that the number they committed is over 750. Colombian Killers is not for the faint of heart, nor for the feeble of spirit. Book excerpt: LUIS GARAVITO - Hunting The Beast: The Story of a Colombian Serial Killer Luis Alfredo Garavito Cubillos was born on the 25th of January in 1957. He is known as 'The Beast' because he raped and murdered at least 140 young people. Based on the maps that he drew while he was in prison, investigators now believe that number could be closer to 300. Garavito was described by the media as "The worst serial murder in the world." When Garavito was finally captured, he was given the maximum penalty of 30 years in prison in Columbia. However, because he helped the Colombian police locate the bodies and he confessed to the crime, his sentence was reduced to 22 years. It could also be reduced further due to good behavior and cooperation. The people of Columbia were quite alarmed that Garavito could be released early and felt that he was not receiving adequate punishment for his crimes. At that time there was no way for his penalty to be extended and the legal system was not equipped to deal with the case properly. However, in 2006 it was found that his sentence could be extended. The delayed release was based on the crimes that he had not confessed to and had not yet been charged for. This is the shocking true story of a Colombian monster, one of the most horrendous serial killers in history, Luis Garavito.

Book Jersey City to Escobar s Colombia

Download or read book Jersey City to Escobar s Colombia written by Gerard Horning and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was more than shock waves that went through downtown Jersey City in the sixties and early seventies, the Vietnam era. Forty or more people I was familiar with succumbed to alcohol and drugs. No one seemed to give any advice, only do as I say. No hugging, no loving, only surviving. Parents that talk more to themselves than to us. Fear, despair, and insecurities on my mind. Never had thoughts of my future, only to find out years later how things would change... Colombia, South America in the early nineties. Was introduced to Os, who changed much of Colombia, and the reward for the deeds I accomplished were the most beautiful women in the world. Os was a ruthless man, no nonsense, and on a mission to eliminate the drug lords. You will not learn compassion here, no pity, little love I was told, but my biggest mistake was love with a daughter of a right-hand man of Escobar who was called El. The table was always full of profiles of beautiful women. I went through hundreds, sometimes three a day, until she came along. This is not a love story. This is the hardcore truth from the streets to the moto girls killers...

Book excerpt: "Since they shot her at point-blank range while she was being kissed, she confused the pain of love with that of death." Rosario Tijeras is the violent, violated character at the center of Jorge Franco's study of contrasts, set in self-destructing 1980s Medellín. Her very name-evoking the rosary, and scissors-bespeaks her conflict as a woman who becomes a contract killer to insulate herself from the random violence of the streets. Then she is shot, gravely wounded, and the circle of contradiction is closed. From the corridors of the hospital where Rosario is fighting for her life, Antonio, the narrator, waits to learn if she will recover. Through him, we reconstruct the friendship between the two, her love story with Emilio, and her life as a hitwoman. Rosario Tijeras has been recognized as an admirable continuation of a literary subject that was first treated by Gabriel García Márquez and then by Fernando Vallejo. A work in the Latin American social realist tradition, Rosario Tijeras is told in fast and vibrant prose and with poetic flourish.

Book excerpt: For the first time, legendary DEA operatives Steve Murphy and Javier F. Peña tell the true story of how they helped put an end to one of the world’s most infamous narco-terrorists in Manhunters: How We Took Down Pablo Escobar—the subject of the hit Netflix series, Narcos. Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar’s brutal Medellín Cartel was responsible for trafficking tons of cocaine to North America and Europe in the 1980s and ’90s. The nation became a warzone as his sicarios mercilessly murdered thousands of people—competitors, police, and civilians—to ensure he remained Colombia’s reigning kingpin. With billions in personal income, Pablo Escobar bought off politicians and lawmen, and became a hero to poorer communities by building houses and sports centers. He was nearly untouchable despite the efforts of the Colombian National Police to bring him to justice. But Escobar was also one of America’s most wanted, and the Drug Enforcement Administration was determined to see him pay for his crimes. Agents Steve Murphy and Javier F. Peña were assigned to the Bloque de Búsqueda, the joint Colombian-U.S. taskforce created to end Escobar’s reign of terror. For eighteen months, between July 1992 and December 1993, Steve and Javier lived and worked beside Colombian authorities, finding themselves in the crosshairs of sicarios targeting them for the $300,000 bounty Escobar placed on each of their heads. Undeterred, they risked the dangers, relentlessly and ruthlessly separating the drug lord from his resources and allies, and tearing apart his empire, leaving him underground and on the run from enemies on both sides of the law. Manhunters presents Steve and Javier’s history in law enforcement from their rigorous physical training and their early DEA assignments in Miami and Austin to the Escobar mission in Medellin, Colombia—living far from home and serving as frontline soldiers in the never ending war on drugs that continues to devastate America.

Download or read book Fatal Love written by Victor Uribe-Uran and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-16 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One night in December 1800, in the distant mission outpost of San Antonio in northern Mexico, Eulalia Californio and her lover Primo plotted the murder of her abusive husband. While the victim was sleeping, Prio and his brother tied a rope around Juan Californio's neck. One of them sat on his body while the other pulled on the rope and the woman, grabbing her husband by the legs, pulled in the opposite direction. After Juan Californio suffocated, Eulalia ran to the mission and reported that her husband had choked while chewing tobacco. Suspicious, the mission priests reported the crime to the authorities in charge of the nearest presidio. For historians, spousal murders are significant for what they reveal about social and family history, in particular the hidden history of day-to-day gender relations, conflicts, crimes, and punishments. Fatal Love examines this phenomenon in the late colonial Spanish Atlantic, focusing on incidents occurring in New Spain (colonial Mexico), New Granada (colonial Colombia), and Spain from the 1740s to the 1820s. In the more than 200 cases consulted, it considers not only the social features of the murders, but also the legal discourses and judicial practices guiding the historical treatment of spousal murders, helping us understand the historical intersection of domestic violence, private and state/church patriarchy, and the law.
