When Heather called me after her breast cancer diagnosis, I was heartbroken. Our sorority of breast cancer fighters and survivors is exclusive, but not coveted. The attitude Heather had was positive, just like her attitude toward life. Her unique insight into life situations has been well-illustrated within her artwork for many years. I know her collection of comical viewpoints of the uncomfortable, quirky positions that cancer fighters and their caregivers face will bring many laughs, lighten the uneasiness of sensitive topics, and encourage hope for the future. -Paula S. O'Neil, PhD, Author of Fighting Cancer like a Girl, Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long before I was afflicted by this dreadful disease, breast cancer, I had a wonderful childhood. I did not know that I grew up poor because I never defined myself through possessions. After graduating from college I married the love of my life, my college-mate. After a year and a half I found myself in situations that I did not want for my life. So, I left my home and flew to the land of prosperity and gold, well so I thought. I met my second husband in New York, where we got married and had four beautiful girls. During this marriage I've come to realized that marriage comes with trials, compromising and faith in God. I found myself, one would say, "Jumping from the frying pan into the fire." I had to dig deep within me, through sleepless nights, heartache, tears and God by my side I was able to withstand the outside influences that tangled my feet; that prickled my children and ripped my husband's heart. Our trials in our marriage stood tall like Mount Everest. Through faith in God my family was able to overcome and now we chose to live not just survive and give God the glory! Romans 8:28 "and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose'. It was during the time of seeking God because of my trials that I understood Him more. Life journey come with worries but if we focus on God explicitly He will take care of you because he cares. Thank God for being there with me through the thick and the thin. I was crushed but not broken. I was rejected but yet precious enough for Jesus to die for me. Breast cancer marked for death but Jesus gave me a second chance. Now, I endeavor to use that same knot in the bottom of my belly for over twenty years that prepared me for breast cancer, to use for the good of mankind. I chose to live, laugh, smile and stay happy while the storms of life pass through. Trouble will come but the way I chose to react, will determine the outcome. The waves of life that I can change, I will use them for the advancement of society and improvement of my relationship with God. Please rely on God with all your heart and soul and you will find that peace that passes all understanding. I would like to share with you, my readers my favorite bible scripture, the one that soothes my heart in my worse fear. Isaiah 41:10 so do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. I am writing this paragraph with a huge smile and happy heart because I have experience him for myself. Why not try him today

Download or read book Are You Kidding Me written by Lucy Morrison and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-02-13 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My book is about being diagnosed with breast cancer and all the wonderful games I got to play. It starts out with the mammogram and further testing and continues with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. I was fortunate to have a less-invasive type of cancer and didnt need the kind of chemotherapy that makes your hair fall out, but I still had problems. I am a nurse, but I was unaware of most of the processes involved in the treatment of breast cancer. I did learn a lot about diagnosis, testing, and prognosis of different types of breast cancer. I also learned a lot about being the patient and how easy it is to get lost in the shuffle. The treatment has become routine for some of the caregivers, and it is easy to get treated like a disease and not a person. I wanted to share my experience to hopefully help others be able to fight for and demand the best treatment for themselves.

Book Thanks for the Mammaries

Download or read book Thanks for the Mammaries written by Kate Gale and published by Ocean Reeve Publishing. This book was released on 2020-12-10 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thanks for the Mammaries is an honest recount of author Kate Gale's journey with cancer. After being diagnosed at the young age of twenty-seven with breast cancer, she fought a hard, uphill battle, stared it in the eye, and won. Life was getting back to normal when tragedy struck Kate's young family again, when her husband was diagnosed with renal cancer five years later. What followed was the biggest curveball that Kate had been handed to date when roles were reversed, and she was sitting on the other side of a cancer diagnosis. It opened her eyes to life, what was important, who was important, and which direction she wanted to go in. Kate had now seen both sides of the disease, from two different perspectives, and knew that she had to break down the barriers that surrounded cancer. Her positive, inspiring, and honest attitude towards her battles are not only refreshing, but something that will leave you wondering what is important to you. Kate shows you how dreaming big, giving back, and having a never give up kind of attitude can turn a negative into a positive whilst continuing to smile.

Book Hello Dears

Download or read book Hello Dears written by Milinda Atallian and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-10 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Hello Dears" is a book told through emails (mostly), that I wrote to the most important people in my life. This book is about my personal journey through Breast Cancer. When I was first told that I had Breast Cancer, I needed a way to be in touch with all of the people that I knew would be concerned for me. I didn't want to spend my time on the phone repeating myself again and again and again. So, I decided to write to the people that were in my address book on our computer. I figured that, if they were in my address book, then they new me well enough to know what was going on. My immediate feeling when I was told, was concern for my husband, our daughter, and my family. I have said this to them, to my Dears, and to everyone that I've shared my story with I would much rather be the one battling, than anyone that is close to me. I can't imagine how they must have felt hearing that someone that they care about had the c-word. So, I started to type emails and send them out each step of the way. I wanted them all to know that I was in fighter's mode. I wanted them all to know that I was going to be OK. I wanted them all to know that forward motion is what got me through each and every turn of this ride. I wanted them to check their ta-ta's and tell their friends to do the same. And, I wanted them to share my story with as many people as possible, so that they too could save their lives with early detection. I tried, as best I could, to keep a strong sense of humor throughout the process. That, in turn, made the writing a lot lighter and hopefully entertaining. Each step of the way, I let My Dears know what we were going through and what was to come. Again, I wanted them to know what we were dealing with, so that they wouldn't worry as much about the unknown. I wanted to educate them, as best I could, so that they could do the same as they passed my story along. This book covers everything from the discovery of my lump, to the reconstruction of my new ta-ta's and everything in between. My hope is, that when people read this book, they too will realize that with forward motion, and positivity, you can overcome and be stronger. I know that my battle with the c-word will never truly be over. This book is for my Dears, and for all of those that have been touched by the c-word. This book is for my daughter, so that when she is mature enough to "know", she will understand what Mommy went through and how I kicked the c-words ass. Reagan will learn just how much her being on this earth has helped me get through it all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thanks for the Mammaries is a raw, uncensored tale of the author's journey through breast cancer. From initial diagnosis at age 37, to chemotherapy, and on to life after surgery, author Sarah Demmon provides a humorous and sometimes warped perspective into what to expect from doctors, friends, and society. In addition to her personal journey, the book also contains references and terminology that will aid the reader. A Breast Cancer Survivor's Story is a must-read for the newly diagnosed."When I was diagnosed, I found that when I looked up literature about the disease, it was either overly emotional or highly technical. Everyone is told, 'Go read Lance Armstrong's book.' In reality, there is little to relate in that book to the average individual dealing with cancer. I found myself blindsided, even as a scientist. I decided that I would write a true, raw tale that can impart some guidance to the newly diagnosed, so that hopefully they do not have to go through the bumps that I did."First-time author Sarah Demmon lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. "It was hard to end the book because the story continues."Publisher's Web site: http: //www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/ThanksForTheMammaries-ABreastCancerSurvivorsStory.html

Book Still Bigger Than Pink

Download or read book Still Bigger Than Pink written by Csp Mirm Lori Lober and published by . This book was released on 2009-05-01 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conclusion On January 2, 2009, I saw my oncologist for my annual scans. While I am confident in my wellness and feel better than I have ever felt, I cannot help but be a bit nervous each time the tests are run. I am alive and well with great news! All are clear and I remain "no evidence of disease"! I know dedication to self-care and my new IsAgenix regimen are working to create balance in my body allowing for optimum healing! My doctors cannot give me definite answers as to why my treatments have been successful when others have failed, or even why I'm still alive and thriving now, NINE years after my stage IV, metastatic breast cancer diagnosis. However, they have said many times that I "am a very proactive patient." Of course, being proactive does not guarantee success and long-term survival - unfortunately, there are no guarantees. However, I feel that truly believing that I was not going to die, most certainly was an important factor. In addition to that, my faith, the support of my family and friends, the combination of everything discussed in this book, and yes, a little luck, have all contributed to my long-term survival. Prior to being diagnosed with cancer, I would not necessarily have considered myself an extraordinarily lucky person. Now, however, the quality of life I live every day is much richer, the special moments more memorable, and the love I have to offer both to myself as well as to others, is deeper and more fulfilling. This is precisely why I tell everyone I meet that I feel "blessed" to have actually had cancer, and I continue to be deeply grateful to now be healthy and happy. Journey well! Lori C. Lober, CSP, MIRM
