Book excerpt: Aberdeen Grammar School has a long and distinguished history; its origins are obscure, but are believed to date from the late medieval period, which supports the claims that it is one of the oldest schools in Britain. Titled after the modern school motto, this book traces Aberdeen Grammar School’s fortunes from its beginnings, many centuries ago, through its recent transformation into a coeducational, comprehensive school, serving much of the central and western districts of Aberdeen City. In doing so, it also assesses the school’s contribution to the North-East of Scotland and pays tribute to more than 800 former pupils, who rank amongst Aberdeen’s past and current most notable citizens.

Book Bon s Year On

Download or read book Bon s Year On written by Bonnie Grzesh Pedota and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2007-02-14 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The only time I've ever thought I was really going to die was during my first panic attack. I was on vacation in Paris and suddenly felt like I couldn't breathe. As I hyperventilated, my arms, legs and torso went tingly. I was rushed to the emergency room, shaken, but alive. Panic disorder left me debilitated for two months after my first attack. I struggled with shortness of breath, fatigue, and heart palpitations. I was forced to defer going to teachers' college for a year because I didn't feel physically able to go. For a while, I focused on all the things panic disorder was taking away from me. Then I got wise. I realized that my illness was call to become a better person. I took panic disorder as an opportunity to grow. The "year off" from school became my "year on." I majored in me. I journaled, went for therapy, and asked myself important questions. What do I enjoy? Who am I? Where do I want to be? How can I be an active creator of my life, rather than just falling into it? Today, panic disorder has taken a back seat. A loving and supportive partner, journal writing and cognitive behavioural therapy were the major players in my recovery. Complementary medicine also played a supporting role. But mostly it was me. I decided I deserved to really live, and that I was being called to do so. They say that we are only dealt a hand that we can play. If you are suffering with anxiety or panic, be brave and ask yourself some important questions: Am I really happy? What do I love? What have I always wanted to do? Where can I get help? How can I start healing today?

Book excerpt: Streisand: A Biography is much more than the story of the world's greatest living performer, how she got there, and why she remains at the top after three decades, it is also, in Anne Edward's sure hands, a compelling chronicle of a woman's fight to validate her appearance, her talent, and her right to love and be loved. Time and time again Streisand has demonstrated the ability to reinvent herself to keep pace with the continuing changes in musical taste. Book Highway to Hell

  • Author : Clinton Walker
  • Publisher : Verse Chorus Press

Download or read book Highway to Hell written by Clinton Walker and published by Verse Chorus Press. This book was released on 2023-03-21 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clinton Walker's biography of Bon Scott is the definitive account of the life of the iconic rocker, tracing his musical apprenticeship in bubblegum pop band the Valentines and blues-rockers Fraternity through to joining up with Angus and Malcolm Young in AC/DC, where his racy lyrics, unique vocal style, and sheer charisma helped define a new, highly influential brand of rock and roll. Drawing on many first-person interviews and featuring a gallery of rare images, Clinton Walker traces AC/DC's career through the life of their original front man, from the Scottish roots he shared with the Youngs to small-time gigs to recording studios and international success, right up to Scott's shocking death in 1980, just as the band were getting the worldwide recognition they'd worked for so tirelessly. Wild speculation about how Scott died has surfaced periodically in the intervening years and flared up again recently. For this edition, Clinton Walker re-examines the evidence surrounding Scott’s death, investigates these recurring claims, and concludes that such conspiracy theories have no basis in fact. The result underlines Highway to Hell’s status as the authoritative version of the life—and untimely death—of one of rock’s greatest characters.
