Book The Dielectric Bolometer a New Type of Thermal Radiation Detector

Download or read book The Dielectric Bolometer a New Type of Thermal Radiation Detector written by R. A. Hanel and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thermal detectors for the infrared, such as thermocouples and bolometers, are limited in their ultimate sensitivity predominantly by Johnson noise rather than temperature noise. Low noise figures are hard to achieve since Johnson noise preponderates temperature noise, which is the only essential noise for thermal detectors. The dielectric constants of some materials are sufficiently temperature dependent to make a new type of bolometer feasible. The basic theory of a dielectric bolometer, as shown here, promises noise figures below 3 decibels even at chopper frequencies well above the 1/tau value of the detector. Ferroelectrics such as barium-strontium titanate and others seem to be well suited for radiation-cooled dielectric bolometers.

Book Detection of Light

  • ISBN : 9780521017107
  • Pages : 380 pages

Download or read book Detection of Light written by George Rieke and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detection of Light provides a comprehensive overview of the important approaches to photon detection from ultraviolet to submillimeter spectral regions. This expanded and fully updated second edition discusses recently introduced types of detector such as superconducting tunnel junctions, hot electron bolometer mixers, and fully depleted CCDs. Material from many disciplines is combined into a comprehensive and unified treatment of the detection of light, with emphasis on the underlying physical principles. This self-contained text assumes only an undergraduate level of physics, and is suitable for advanced undergraduate and graduate students.

Book Microbolometers

Download or read book Microbolometers written by Nuggehalli Ravindra and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2021-12-01 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microbolometers: Fundamentals, Materials, and Recent Developments describes the fundamentals of microbolometers, their historic evolution, operational principles and material choices. It also explains the impact of materials on the processing and development of device characteristics. Sections address various aspects of optical properties and recommend models of properties of materials of interest for the fabrication of the uncooled microbolometers. In addition, the book presents two case studies, Honeywell and Texas Instruments, that focus on the design and manufacture of microbolometers. Finally, recent developments, applications, patents and future trends are presented. The chapter on patents will summarize the strengths and weaknesses of each of the technologies. "Please note that there is an error on the Dedication page, it should read: "To my sister, Math. G.Y. Premalatha, and my brother-in-law, the late Professor G.N. Yoganarasimhan, Professor of Water Resources Engineering and Management, for showing me the direction - Describes the fundamentals of uncooled infrared detectors, operational principles and material approaches - Includes case studies based on Honeywell and Texas Instruments' work on microbolometers - Provides analyses of current patents with a look towards their strengths and weaknesses

Download or read book Tools of Radio Astronomy written by T. L. Wilson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-14 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four signi?cant factors have led us to update this text. The ?rst is the breathtaking progress in technology, especially in receiver and digital techniques. The second is the advance of radio astronomy to shorter wavelengths, and the increased availab- ity of astronomical satellites. The third is a need to reorganize some of the chapters in order to separate the basic theory, that seldom changes, from practical aspects that change often. Finally, it is our desire to enhance the text by including problem sets for each chapter. In view of this ambitious plan, we have expanded the number of authors. In the reorganization of this edition, we have divided Chap. 4 of the 4th edition into two Chaps. 4 and 5. The ?rst remains Chap. 4, with a slightly different - tle, Signal Processing and Receivers: Theory. This was expanded to include digital processing and components including samplers and digitizers. In Chap. 5, Prac- cal Receiver Systems. we have relegated the presentations of maser and parametric ampli?er front ends, which are no longer commonly used as microwave receivers in radio astronomy, to a short section on “historical developments” and We have retained and improved the presentations of current state-of-the-art devices, cooled transistor and superconducting front ends. We have also included descriptions of local oscillators and phase lock loops. Chapters 5 and 6 in the 4th edition has now become Chap. 6, Fundamentals of Antenna Theory and Chap.
