He also became known for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range. Mercury wrote and composed numerous hits for Queen (including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Killer Queen," "Somebody to Love," "Don't Stop Me Now," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," and "We Are the Champions"); occasionally served as a producer and guest musician (piano or vocals) for other artists; and concurrently led a solo career while performing with Queen. Mercury was born of Parsi descent in the Sultanate of Zanzibar and grew up there and in India until his mid-teens, before moving with his family to Middlesex, England - ultimately forming the band Queen in 1970 with Brian May and Roger Taylor. This book was released on 2017-04-28 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Queen are a British rock band that formed in London in 1970. Their classic line-up was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (lead guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar). Queen's earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock, into their music. Before forming Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in a band named Smile. Freddie Mercury (then known by his birth name of Farrokh "Freddie" Bulsara) was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques. Mercury joined the band in 1970, suggested "Queen" as a new band name, and adopted his familiar stage name. John Deacon was recruited before the band recorded their eponymous debut album in 1973. Queen first charted in the UK with their second album, Queen II, in 1974, but it was the release of Sheer Heart Attack later that year and A Night at the Opera in 1975 which brought them international success. The latter featured "Bohemian Rhapsody," which stayed at number one in the UK for nine weeks and popularised the music video.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A beautifully illustrated biography of the iconic lead singer of the British rock band, Queen. The music of Queen and powerhouse lead singer Freddie Mercury are best experienced with the volume turned all the way up. Alfonso Casas’s Freddie Mercury delivers a sonorous homage to the formidable singer and the turning points that produced a game-changing body of music that continues to inspire fans around the globe. First published in Spain and now available worldwide, this luminous work covers Freddie’s three “births:” his birth as Farrokh Bulsara in Zanzibar; his adoption of the last name of Mercury and the launch of Queen with Brian May and Roger Taylor; and the emergence of the lasting legend after Freddie’s death at the age of forty-five. Casas’s evocative illustrations highlight the key moments in the singer’s transformation from child prodigy to superstar, bringing to life the bold innovator who broke free of his conventional upbringing. Chronicling events from Freddie’s marriage to Mary Austin and early fame in London’s 1970s glam scene, to the making of multiple megahits (including the six-minute chart-topper “Bohemian Rhapsody”), to his final years in a lasting relationship with Jim Hutton, Freddie Mercury is an exhilarating, poignant portrait of a creative genius who lived life to the hilt. “Through Casas’ evocative and vibrant illustrations, [Freddie Mercury] tells the story of Freddie Mercury’s three “births:” from his childhood, growing up as Farrokh Bulsara in Tanzania, to Queen’s launch to his death at 45.” —Alcalde “A beautifully illustrated biography of Freddie Mercury . . . Casas lovingly presents a creative take on the life of Freddie Mercury through the use of dozens of vibrant drawings.” —OutWord Magazine “[Freddie Mercury] is an appealingly modest book: Casas aims to let Mercury shine, but his striking illustrations shine in their own right as well.” —The Current

Book Mammoth Book of Freddie Mercury and Queen

Download or read book Mammoth Book of Freddie Mercury and Queen written by Sean Egan and published by Robinson. This book was released on 2014-06-19 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has never been a band quite like Queen, and it's hard to imagine that there will be again. While a number of groups may have had a go at rock, prog rock, opera, funk, pop, and twenties pastiche, few, if any, have done so on a single album. Unusually, not just one or two, but every member of the band was a great songwriter. And while bands like ELO may have made similar use of layered harmonies, Queen were emphatically the pioneers of this vocal style. From the stadium anthem 'We Will Rock You' to the Fifties retro of 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' and the slick synth-pop of 'I Want to Break Free' to the unlikeliest Number One ever, the category-defying 'Bohemian Rhapsody', with its unlikely blend of strutting rock and operatic intrigue, Queen was truly a band like no other. Egan, as he has done so successfully in Mammoth Books on The Beatles, Bob Dylan and, most recently, The Rolling Stones presents a bumper selection of writing, both old and new on Mercury, bassist John Deacon, guitarist Brian May, and drummer Roger Taylor: features, interviews, reviews, and opinion pieces to created a rounded portrait of one of history's most remarkable groups.
