Book excerpt: Winter, 670 AD. King Colgú has invited the leading nobles and chieftains of his kingdom to a feast day. Fidelma and her companion Eadulf are finally home for an extended stay, and have promised their son, Alchú, that they'll be able to spend some time together after months of being on the road, investigating crimes. Fidelma and Eadulf are enjoying the feast when it is interrupted by the entrance of a religieux, who claims he has an important message for the King. He approaches the throne and shouts ‘Remember Liamuin!' and then stabs King Colgú. The assassin is slain, but does enough damage to take out Colgú's bodyguard, and to put the king himself on the verge of death. As King Colgú lies in recovery, Fidelma, Eadulf, and bodyguard Gormán are tasked with discovering who is behind the assassination attempt, and who Liamuin is. They must journey into the territory of their arch-enemies, the Uí Fidgente, to uncover the secrets in the Abbey of Mungairit, and then venture into the threatening mountain territory ruled by a godless tyrant. Danger and violence are their constant companions until the final devastating revelation. Atonement of Blood is a mystery of Ancient Ireland from Peter Tremayne.

Book The Mountain Meadows Massacre

Download or read book The Mountain Meadows Massacre written by Juanita Brooks and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2012-09-06 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Fall of 1857, some 120 California-bound emigrants were killed in lonely Mountain Meadows in southern Utah; only eighteen young children were spared. The men on the ground after the bloody deed took an oath that they would never mention the event again, either in public or in private. The leaders of the Mormon church also counseled silence. The first report, soon after the massacre, described it as an Indian onslaught at which a few white men were present, only one of whom, John D. Lee, was actually named. With admirable scholarship, Mrs. Brooks has traced the background of conflict, analyzed the emotional climate at the time, pointed up the social and military organization in Utah, and revealed the forces which culminated in the great tragedy at Mountain Meadows. The result is a near-classic treatment which neither smears nor clears the participants as individuals. It portrays an atmosphere of war hysteria, whipped up by recitals of past persecutions and the vision of an approaching "army" coming to drive the Mormons from their homes.

Book King Benjamin s Speech

Download or read book King Benjamin s Speech written by John Woodland Welch and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For readers of the Book of Mormon, King Benjamin's speech is a treasure trove of inspiration, wisdom, eloquence, and spiritual insight. King Benjamin's Speech: "That Ye May Learn Wisdom" is the most substantial collection of studies ever to focus exclusively on this landmark address. The contributors examine this speech in the multifaceted contexts in which it was delivered: as a classic speech of a departing leader near the time of his death, as the focus of an annual festival season mandated anciently under the law of Moses, as part of a covenant renewal ceremony delivered within the sacred precinct of the Nephite temple in Zarahemla, and as preparation for the coronation of a new king. Historical and linguistic tools and information are employed in these essays to help the reader to better grasp the speech's historical setting, its doctrinal implications, its literary qualities, its influence then and now, and its overall brilliance.

Book The Blood Atonement Deception

Download or read book The Blood Atonement Deception written by Gerald Sigal and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-11-19 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE ATONEMENT DECEPTION, explores the Christian theological fiction that belief in Jesus is the only way to receive divine forgiveness for ones sins. Biblically, both Jews and gentiles can receive forgiveness of sins through sincere repentant confessionary prayer directed to the God of Israel. This is true at all times and in all places. There has never been a need for the so-called intercession role Jesus is supposed to play in attaining atonement. The facts speak for themselves. There is no truth to the Christian contention that Jesus died for our sins and salvation is only through Jesus. Jesus death does not bring atonement from sin nor is it in any way a fulfillment of biblical prophecy.

Book The Atonement of Christ s Blood

Download or read book The Atonement of Christ s Blood written by Clark Brown and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-05 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the relationship between Jesus' sacrifice and our redemption, forgiveness and receiving an inheritance per the terms of the covenant / will that was effected by His death? From what, and to what, are we saved? Is it Jesus' death alone that saves us? What part does His resurrection have in our salvation? Does the justice of God demand the satisfaction of blood before He will forgive, similar to what pagans throughout history have believed? What was the purpose of the Old Testament sacrifices? Does blood alone atone for sin? How does Christ's death render powerless the devil? To whom was Christ's life given as a ransom? From what are we ransomed? Why did Jesus not only die, but suffer and die? If all that was necessary was His shed blood, why didn't God sovereignly ordain a more merciful death for His own dear Son? What is the relationship between a will or testament, and a covenant? What was willed to Jesus as an inheritance from His Father, and what was willed to us through the new testament in His blood?

Book Blood Atonement as Taught by Leading Elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

Download or read book Blood Atonement as Taught by Leading Elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints written by Charles W. Penrose and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Blood Atonement as Taught by Leading Elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints: An Address Delivered in the Twelfth Ward Assembly Hall, Salt Lake City, Oct, 12th, 1884 The subject treated in the following pages is one that has occasioned much interest and comment. It is still greatly misrepresented by opponents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The first edition having been exhausted and numerous requests having been made for copies of it, this new edition is now offered to the public in its original form, as it was delivered as a lecture and therefore does not admit of additions or further comments or quotations, although the doctrines set forth are worthy of more extended investigation than is given in this pamphlet. To believers in the Bible, blood atonement should be an established principle of salvation; to the rational skeptic it ought to be accepted as logical and just. It is submitted to the thoughtful consideration of all people of every creed and nation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
