Book excerpt: Bleed White is the story of Leeds United in the new Millennium. At the turn of the century a young vibrant team had ambitions to challenge the domination of Manchester United and Arsenal and by the 1st January 2002 they sat proudly at the top of the Premier League arguably the best league in Europe. But disaster was around the corner. Mismanagement both on and off the field saw the club fall into serious financial difficulty. Managers and players came and went and the club was relegated from the Premier League in May 2004. The downfall continued and they were relegated from the Championship in May 2007 and started in the third tier of British football for the first time in the club’s history. The club had also been put into administration and to make matters worse they were forced to start the next season with a fifteen point penalty following a dispute with the Inland Revenue which caused them to break Football League rules. But the club is on the way back and after three long years in Division One, the future is looking much brighter. Ken Bates the Chairman has restored financial stability and Simon Grayson an excellent young manager who happens to be a fan and ex Leeds player has given the fans hope at last. This story is a fan's view of what happened at Leeds United Football Club during those eventful years. The book covers issues both on and off the pitch and has been written from two different perspectives - wearing a level headed business hat one minute and a passionate Leeds United baseball cap the next. Business objectivity meets football fan emotion and they hate each other.

He's a precocious, sensitive farm boy who suffers through rough and frightening times under his guilt laden mother and an endearing humble uncle. After betrayal and tragedy, he leaves the things he loves behind and heads for the big city to fulfill his promise to become a doctor. Almost defeated along the way, he is rescued by an old homeless woman. In part 2, Martin is an intern juggling his duties around research projects striving to build an impressive career. Disillusioned of passion, he isolates himself from social activities. Unwittingly he gets tangled in a malicious web of trickery with one of the gullible candy-stripe helpers. At the same time he is beguiled by one of the nurses. Trapped between desire and resentment he first tries to suppress his lust by shunning her. He tries to fix everything, and insure his career will be safe, but his life becomes even more complicated when one of his patients and his wealthy granddaughter intrude into his life. Greed for money and a passion he won't acknowledge cause him to make a number of decisions which are destined to destroy him. The arrogance he learned to use for survival is well embedded by now and comes naturally. He feels threatened and trapped and is torn between greed and hot-blooded lust. He must choose one. This is a novel about passion and rage, greed and control, courage and despair. It is a story about hearts that are deceived or broken and felt bleeding till there is no more blood. It's about hearts that are bled white.

Book excerpt: Winner of the Somerset Maugham Award One of Granta’s Best Young British Novelists From the acclaimed author of What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours, Gingerbread, and Peaces There’s something strange about the Silver family house in the closed-off town of Dover, England. Grand and cavernous with hidden passages and buried secrets, it’s been home to four generations of Silver women—Anna, Jennifer, Lily, and now Miranda, who has lived in the house with her twin brother, Eliot, ever since their father converted it to a bed-and-breakfast. The Silver women have always had a strong connection, a pull over one another that reaches across time and space, and when Lily, Miranda’s mother, passes away suddenly while on a trip abroad, Miranda begins suffering strange ailments. An eating disorder starves her. She begins hearing voices. When she brings a friend home, Dover’s hostility toward outsiders physically manifests within the four walls of the Silver house, and the lives of everyone inside are irrevocably changed. At once an unforgettable mystery and a meditation on race, nationality, and family legacies, White is for Witching is a boldly original, terrifying, and elegant novel by a prodigious talent.

Martin is a precocious, sensitive farm boy who suffers through rough and frightening times under his guilt laden mother and an endearing humble uncle. After betrayal and tragedy, he leaves the things he loves behind and heads for the big city to fulfill his promise to become a doctor. In the second part of Bled White Book 1, Martin is an intern juggling his duties around research projects striving to build an impressive career. Disillusioned of passion, he isolates himself from social activities. Unwittingly he gets tangled in a malicious web of trickery with one of the gullible candy-stripe helpers.
