Book Clinical Biochemistry and Pathology

Download or read book Clinical Biochemistry and Pathology written by Rene Church and published by Scientific e-Resources. This book was released on 2018-06-14 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clinical biochemistry is an analytical and interpretative science. The analytical part involves the determination of the level of chemical components in body fluids and tissues. Clinical chemistry is the area of chemistry that is generally concerned with analysis of bodily fluids for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. It is an applied form of biochemistry. The discipline originated in the late 19th century with the use of simple chemical reaction tests for various components of blood and urine. In the many decades since, other techniques have been applied as science and technology have advanced, including the use and measurement of enzyme activities, spectrophotometry, electrophoresis, and immunoassay. There are now many blood tests and clinical urine tests with extensive diagnostic capabilities. Clinical pathology covers a wide range of laboratory functions and is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Clinical pathologists are healthcare providers with special training who often direct all of the special divisions of the lab. This may include the blood bank, clinical chemistry and biology, toxicology, hematology, immunology and serology, and microbiology. Clinical pathology also involves maintenance of information systems, research, and quality control. This book is designed to cover the major techniques and analytical instruments used in clinical biochemistry and clinical pathology.

Book A Primer Of Chemical Pathology

Download or read book A Primer Of Chemical Pathology written by Evelyn S C Koay and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1996-02-09 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written primarily for medical students and junior doctors in clinical practice, but would also be a useful reference for postgraduate students in chemical pathology (clinical biochemistry), laboratory scientists, pathologists and medical laboratory technologists. It covers the field of chemical pathology, the biochemical basis of disease, and provides a basic understanding of the relationship between abnormal biochemical test results and disease states. A rational approach to proper selection and interpretation of biochemical investigations is adopted for each organ system or analyte covered in the 28 chapters. Emphasis is placed on areas and problems most commonly met with in clinical practice. Meant primarily as an introductory study book to the subject rather than as a reference text, the materials have been presented in a clear, condensed format to aid the study process. The written text is amply supplemented with relevant illustrations.

This book was released on 2023-09-28 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are very pleased to put forth the revised edition of 'Laboratory Manual of Biochemistry and Clinical Pathology'. We have incorporated all the suggestions, modified it to make it easier, student friendly and relevant in terms of achieving curriculum outcome. We are very much thankful to all the learned teachers who have given their feedback whole-heartedly. We have even incorporated the changes in this manual based on the feedback given by the teachers from all the institutes. Now, we believe that the manual has been fulfilling the aspirations of biochemistry teachers and students too. This manual is prepared as per PCI Education Regulations, 2020 for Diploma Course in Pharmacy. The methods of all the experiments are reviewed and added from the recent research papers, so that the advancement in the methods or apparatus can be addressed. This manual is designed for 'outcome-based education' and each experiment is arranged in a uniform way such as practical significance, practical outcomes (PrOs) and its mapping with course outcomes, minimum theoretical background, resources used, procedure, precautions, observations, result, conclusion, references and related questions. Moreover, assessment scheme is also given to help the student and teacher to know what to be assessed. During the laboratory period, you will have to multitask, while you are doing the experiment. It is essential to document properly what you do and what you observe while doing the practical. Always plan your work ahead and think about what you are doing, why you are doing it, what is happening, and what you can conclude from your experiment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parkinson's disease is one of the major causes of neurological disability in adult life. It has been encountered in all races, in every region of the world and shows no preference for either sex. In general, its initial manifestations begin in the fifth decade of life. With the world population showing an increase in numbers of people in the older age groups, Parkinson's disease will undoubtedly be encountered with increased frequency in the years to come. Though its cause is unknown, significant strides in understanding its nature and controlling its symptoms have been made during the past two decades. Contained in this volume is a comprehensive review of the present knowledge of Parkinson's disease. Though James Parkinson is credited with the uncovering the illness which now bears his name, and his monograph on the Shaking Palsy written in 1817, is truly a medical classic, descriptions of this disease can be found in medical writings going back to the time of Galen. Indeed, he himself was the first to admit that he was not describing a new disease but bringing an old one to the attention of the medical researchers of his time so that it would become a subject of interest and investigation. Specifically, his objective was the morbid anatomist whose efforts he hoped would bring to light the cause and nature of the disorder. This, then, would become a basis for· treatment or even cure.
