Book excerpt: Kevin Kearney-Audio Artist, Sound Designer, Location Sound Recordist follows the growth of television, television commercial production and filmmaking in Australia. The extremely small population of Australia up to the seventies allowed a major crossover in the arts between poets, musicians, writers, experimental filmmakers and entrepreneurs which in turn influenced the work of audio artists, like Kearney, in both their commercial and personal film work. Moreover because there is a paucity of information and very few books available on such people as audio artists, sound designers and location sound recordists, this book and the following volume will be invaluable to those interested in analogue sound on film production period.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time in a single volume, this book brings together more than 140 of the best walks, tracks or trails in New South Wales, which can be walked by the moderately fit individual. They are located in national parks, coastal parks, state forests, conservation reserves, historic parks and local government and public easements. Other routes follow state highways, minor roads, coastal cliffs, old gold routes, or pass bushranger haunts and back roads linking towns and historical features. Most routes do not require specialist navigation or bushcraft skills, and vary in length from a 45-minute stroll to a 4-day, 65-kilometre camping trip. Walks, Tracks and Trails of New South Wales highlights the best the state has to offer, from an outback ghost town and ancient lake beds, to Australia’s highest mountain, coastal environments and World Heritage rainforests. Easy-to-interpret maps are included to help you navigate, and the book’s size makes it convenient to bring with you on your adventures.

Download or read book Diary of a Mad Travel Writer written by Carolyn Walton and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2019-03-22 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Carolyn Walton, journalist and mother of four, pitched her first travel story to the Ottawa Citizen in 1984, recounting her adventures in Rio de Janeiro, little did she realize that she was about to embark on a remarkable career that would span the globe--taking her from the jungles of the Amazon to palaces in St. Petersburg, on a pilgrimage in France to ports on the Caribbean, Baltic, Mediterranean, Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas, the Adriatic, North and South Pacific oceans. Prepare to be enlightened and entertained as you tread the path less taken to swim with deadly stingrays in Tahiti, kayak among bulbous- headed belugas in Hudson Bay or deep-sea dive through schools of phosphorescent groupers off Andros Island in the Bahamas. Lapland finds her a guest of the colourful Sami people, dining high above the Arctic Circle on smoked reindeer meat or drinking boiled billy tea by the billabong in Australia’s Outback and truffle hunting in Italy or learning to cook per gli stuzzicini from a famed Italian chef in la cucina of a 1000-year-old castello in Tuscany. The old adage: “Half the fun is getting there” just doesn’t compute when Carolyn’s much anticipated flight to Paris is politically- interrupted or a transfer to the wrong boat in the South Pacific leaves her abandoned on a Fijian island! This collection of tales and misadventures takes the travel lover on an engaging and often humorous journey to the heart of some sixty bucket list destinations around the globe.

Book Children of Arnhem s Kaleidoscope

Download or read book Children of Arnhem s Kaleidoscope written by Graham Wilson and published by Graham Wilson. This book was released on 2012 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was hot. There was sudden stillness in the late afternoon air and the surface of the small waterhole shone with unnatural smoothness. Fresh pig tracks at water's edge suggested pigs just gone. Two bubbles popped to the surface near the edge of the pool; just decaying vegetation, said my mind. I should have smelt crocodile! A story of a missionary family in remote aboriginal Australia. What is it about the Northern Territory that fascinates? I have only to mention it’s name in conversation and people turn to listen. Why, for 180 years, has it drawn people from all over to come, stay longer than they imagined and, often, never leave? This book is a memoir of a family's life in a remote aboriginal community, in Australia's Northern Territory, something the equivalent of remote Canada or Alaska, where few people go. The place Oenpelli,(now Gunbalanya) is near Kadadu National Park, made famous in Crocodile Dundee. This story tells of changing world as a missionary family and an aboriginal community become part of modern Australia This our family's story, growing amongst the people, animals and places and colours of this this strange land, alongside an aboriginal community going through its own changes; citizenship, alcohol, uranium mining, land rights, outstation development, and community self management. It is a memoir of growing up in one of the most isolated parts of Australia - in a small aboriginal missionary community in the Northern Territory, something the equivalent of the remote Canada or Alaska. It is the landscape featured in the movie Crocodile Dundee. It tells of the huge change in this place in the last half century with the coming of land rights and aboriginal self determination. It also tells of my mother and fathers lives and Christian beliefs which motivated their contribution to this change. It is a story of my memories and love for this remote and beautiful place, in which I lived as a child then worked as an adult and of many NT characters who gave me the memories. It is also the story of me working as an adult across many parts of the NT and about the hardy, outlandish characters that inhabit this place. It also tells of my own experience of surviving attack by a large crocodile in a remote swamp It also provides a foundation for my novels in the Crocodile Spirit Dreaming Series. The places in these books are the places in which I lived and worked and many of the stories came little changed from people I knew. In particular my experience in surviving a crocodile attack of a large saltwater crocodile, which mauled my leg as told in this book forms part of the central role of the crocodile as a predator in this novel series. The role of my father in opening road transport including building a crossing of the East Alligator River, developing outstations for aboriginal communities, learning to fly on missionary wages and establishing an aviation service along with assisting the aboriginal peoples of this land to gain royalties from mining is a story that deserves to be told as a major part of NT history. Along with his tireless work the contribution of many others is also an essential part of the story.
