Book Purple Sky Survivalist Growing Up a Victim of Illusions

Download or read book Purple Sky Survivalist Growing Up a Victim of Illusions written by Deborah Kinisky and published by Lachesis Publishing Inc. This book was released on with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The upbringing of a child should be done with tender affection because the possibilities for the future are endless. Yes, there will be challenges along the way, but every human life must be nurtured and cherished. Now, imagine a little girl with a loving family; perhaps one that is a little idealistic but one that we all hope for. A mother who teaches her daughter that anything is possible, mentors her as she transitions through life and provides her with the ‘something old, something new, something blue’ on her wedding day. A father who loves his little girl and treasures her for her curiosity to learn, encourages her to challenge stereotypes and teaches his daughter about how young men should behave in the early dating scene and throughout a strong marriage. Where siblings squabble and grow to appreciate one another. A family who has the glue that keeps them balanced in times of instability because of their deep love for one another. I wish this was Deborah’s story. It is not. What is amazing about this story, is that regardless of Deborah’s horrific childhood and a lack of strong role models, Deborah has learned from her own journey.

Book My God Is Bigger Than Your God

Download or read book My God Is Bigger Than Your God written by Tom Martiniano and published by Agent Orange Publishing . This book was released on 2014-12-14 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Todays headlines pretty much detail reports of murder, rape, killing of men, women and children -all in the name of religion or God. Even today I read that 120 children we murdered by religious zealots who are trying to prove that their religion and that their god are the "only ones". I decided that this subject really needs to be confronted head on and that I needed to get to the bottom of this insanity. And get to the bottom I did! And none too soon because right about now, the entire subject of religion is starting to become a liability on this planet because of the amount of killing and harming, and this is not good. Religion used to be what people relied on to get them through life successfully. Religion is what normally succors people from the harshness of life. But - from the Crusades to the Jihads religion is fast becoming one of the leading causes for death on this planet and if this does not change, and fast, man will outlaw religion because it is deadly. This has to change because without religion we are all doomed. We need religion for spirituality and for succoring the needy. We need religion as a guiding light; from where to get our moral compass. Without God we are done for. Tom Martiniano Phoenix, AZ [email protected]

Katherine Rothschild explores the pain and power of forgiveness in a stunning debut novel that will shatter your heart and piece it back together, one truth at a time. Sixteen-year-old Sabine Braxton doesn’t have much in common with her identical twin, Blythe. When their father dies from an unexpected illness, each copes with the loss in her own way—Sabine by “poeting” (an uncontrollable quirk of bursting into poetry at inappropriate moments) and Blythe by obsessing over getting into MIT, their father’s alma mater. Neither can offer each other much support . . . at least not until their emotionally detached mother moves them into a ramshackle Bay Area mansion owned by a stranger named Charlie. Soon, the sisters unite in a mission to figure out who Charlie is and why he seems to know everything about them. They make a life-changing discovery:their parents were hiding secrets about their sexual identities. The revelation unravels Sabine’s world, while practical Blythe seems to take everything in stride. Once again at odds with her sister, Sabine chooses to learn all she can about the father she never knew. Ultimately, she must decide if she can embrace his last wish for a family legacy--even if it means accepting a new idea of what it means to be a family.

Book excerpt: Fact-filled, fun-filled, as interesting to parents as it is to kids, the How Come? series is the trusted source for lively, clear answers to kids’ science queries. Now the best questions and answers from all three books—How Come?; How Come? Planet Earth; and How Come? In the Neighborhood—have been revised, updated, freshly illustrated in full color, supplemented with twenty completely new questions, and combined into one bigger, better volume. How Come? explains, in fascinating detail, more than 200 mysteries and phenomena in the world around us. These are the questions that pique kids’ curiosity—and stump parents. When it rains, does running (rather than walking) to the nearest shelter really keep you any drier? How can a stone skip across a pond (instead of sink)? If the Earth is spinning, why can’t we feel it? Why don’t we fly off? Why do elephants have trunks? And the all-time classic, Why is the sky blue? (Sunlight has a hidden rainbow of colors, and air molecules scatter blues the most—sending bright blue light down to Earth.) The text is clearly written, engaging, and accessible. It’s for every kid who wants to know—and every grown-up who simply doesn’t know.

Book The Columbia Anthology of Modern Japanese Literature

Download or read book The Columbia Anthology of Modern Japanese Literature written by J. Thomas Rimer and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2007-04-24 with total page 872 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Volume 2 of Columbia's comprehensive anthology of modern Japanese literature, thoughtfully selected and carefully translated readings portray the vast changes that have transformed Japanese culture since the end of the Pacific War. Beginning with the Allied Occupation in 1945 and concluding with the early twenty-first century, these stories, poems, plays, and essays reflect Japan's heady transition from poverty to prosperity, its struggle with conflicting ideologies and political beliefs, and the growing influence of popular culture on the country's artistic and intellectual traditions. Organized chronologically and by genre within each period, readings include fiction by Hayashi Fumiko and Oe Kenzaburo; poems by Ayukawa Nobuo, Katsura Nobuko, and Saito Fumi; plays by Mishima Yukio and Shimizu Kunio; and a number of essays, among them Eto Jun on Natsume Soseki and his brilliant novel Kokoro (The Heart of Things), and Kawabata Yasunari on the shape of his literary career and the enduring influence of classical Japanese literature. Some authors train a keen eye on the contemporary world, while others address the historical past and its relationship to modern culture. Some adopt an even broader scope and turn to European models for inspiration, while others look inward, exploring psychological and sexual terrain in new, often daring ways. Spanning almost six decades, this anthology provides a thorough introduction to a profound period of creative activity.
