Book Do Angels Have Big Ears

Download or read book Do Angels Have Big Ears written by B. J. Jones and published by Gazelle Press. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Say hello to the folks from Sweetgum County! The Quabalaka Mountain Range is bounded on the north and west by the mighty Quabalaka River (Cherokee for big fish ) and on the south by mountains so high that the early settlers, who looked up and saw them disappear into the clouds, proclaimed the area to be the very foot of heaven. This novel is a patchwork of the funny, happy, tragic, and sometimes poignant tales of the generations who have lived and died in this area. Their stories, tied together, form one inspiring adventure. The story begins with John Edgar Salt, a mountain-flower grandson of Sweetgum County s most prominent bootlegger during the early thirties, and makes its way from the depression through post-World War II. It is peppered with a myriad of lovable characters who, whether they deserved it or not, were blessed by an angel a four-legged one. This book is not a story, it s an experience and experiences have no outlines. To try and read this book and not feel it is like trying to grab smoke. Good luck. Lori Hebride, Book Editor, The Sweetgum Gazette A great read! Our town hasn t been this excited about anything since President Millard W. Fillmore visited us in 1853. The Honorable Arlo P. Gaddis, Mayor, Sweetgum God truly does work in mysterious ways. Mr. Jones tongue-in-cheek masterpiece is a creative example of how it could happen. Did it happen? Perhaps someday in heaven, we ll all find out! Cecil P. Bledsoe, Associate Pastor, Saint Lucy Church of the White Mule B.J. Jones was born in the Cumberland Mountain area of Southern Kentucky, a region not unlike the fictitious place he writes about. Having spent his entire career in advertising, culminating as Senior Vice President and Executive Creative Director of J. Walter Thompson/Chicago, he is now spending his elder years writing about God and the people he loves.

Book Possum Got Big Ears

Download or read book Possum Got Big Ears written by Agnes Cross-White and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Possum Got Big Ears is a collection of short stories about a little African-American girl growing up during the 1950s and 60s in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is the story about a time when children were seen not heard; when children said yes maam, and no maam to all adults; when rebellion and disrespect were not tolerated. It is about a time when little children sat at special tables for dinner, away from the adults; and obedience and respect were demanded and received. Possum refers to a game played by the adults in my family who were determined to keep children innocent, out of their business, and away from their secrets. In order to do this, they spelled their conversations, letter by letter, a non-stop string of words strung together into a conversation. It infuriated me, because I didnt know how to spell. However, I would learn. It was my incentive to learn to spell, and learn I did, in spite of their efforts. Possum is about the good, the bad, the ugly, the funny and my quest to grow up. This is the story of a little girls tears, anger, repentance and victory. Agnes Cross-White lives in Florida and is the publisher of The Charlottesville Tribune in Charlottesville, Virginia. Ms. White grew up in Philadelphia in the 1950s and 1960s and spent her earliest years with her grandmother, Agnes Gilbert Daniels who she credits with having been the most important person in her life. Possum Got Big Ears is a collection of short stories about her family and their interaction over the first twelve years of her life. Each story details experiences and their effect on her development into a woman. This is Ms. Whites second book, having published Charlottesville, the African-American Communityin 1998.

Book Personality Assessment in Depth

Download or read book Personality Assessment in Depth written by Marshall L. Silverstein and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-17 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Comprised of five unique and extended case studies, Personality Assessment in Depth examines contemporary clinical problems that are familiar to clinicians, but have not been explored extensively in the personality assessment field. Each case study demonstrates the test protocols of the Rorschach test, Thematic Apperception Test, MMPI or MCMI, and Human Figure Drawings. Important clinical questions and areas of theoretical concern are examined, including differential diagnosis of disorders of affect and personality in light of contemporary viewpoints about these disturbances, personality and adaptation accompanying neuropsychological deficit, and stages of development, including differentiating these from personality characteristics viewed longitudinally, the latter demonstrated by a noteworthy comparison of two evaluations of the same patient, first as a 15-year-old adolescent and then as a 25-year-old adult. A battery of performance and self report personality instruments are applied to the cases, allowing the author to integrate findings across multiple tests and thereby expose clinical psychology students to personality assessment in a broad perspective. Cases are discussed comprehensively, relying on a thorough consideration of thematic content examined alongside formal test scores. Further, the Rorschach findings are examined using both the Exner Comprehensive System and the recently-introduced Rorschach Performance Assessment System approaches. The cases are considered using a broad psychodynamic framework for interpretation, employing classical ego psychology, object relations, and self psychological theoretical perspectives. This is an essential casebook for professionals and students, demonstrating the depth and richness of personality considered alongside the empirical foundations of personality assessment.

Book The Art and Science of Face Reading

Download or read book The Art and Science of Face Reading written by Jennifer Lamonica and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-08-13 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A complete, illustrated guide to the ancient tradition of reading the face to gain insight into health, personality, relationships, and career • Details how to read the profile, front face, features, and musculature of the face to reveal temperament, personality traits, health predispositions, and mental state • Explores the history and development of face morphology from its origins in Israel and Egypt more than 4,500 years ago to its modern use in French medical schools • Examines the Foursquare diagram, developed by French occultist Papus, for highly accurate and detailed facial readings The face is a unique reflection of our genetic, inherited inclinations as well as the effects that life, nature, and relationships have had upon us. By looking at a person’s face, you can gain valuable insight into their personality, health, and how they navigate in the world. In this illustrated guide, Jennifer Lamonica reveals the sacred tradition of face morphology, an esoteric system that has been passed quietly from rabbi to student as an unbroken oral tradition for more than 4,500 years. She explores the history and development of this ancient art from its origins in Israel and Egypt to its use as the major diagnostic system in Europe until the Enlightenment and its current applications in French medical schools. Sharing the techniques of master face readers, the author details how to read the angles of the profile, as well as palm color and nose shape, to determine a person’s temperament, providing health and career insight into each of the four temperaments, including nutritional needs, digestive issues, sleep patterns, health predispositions, and ideal occupational paths. Exploring the Foursquare diagram, developed by French occultist Papus, for highly accurate and detailed facial readings, she explains how to read the front face in combination with planetary shapes, which reveal a person’s character; the major facial features, such as eyebrows, which reveal personal inclinations; and the musculature of the face, including expressions, which reveals a person’s current mental state. Providing case studies, she examines how to apply face morphology in relationships and in parenting. Exploring the meaning of each facial variation, while also honoring the intuitive impression received at first glance, Lamonica reveals how the ancient science of face reading allows you to compassionately help your loved ones, students, or clients, as well as overcome personal obstacles and better know yourself.

Download or read book Youth Sexualities written by Susan Talburt and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2018-06-08 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These volumes offer an in-depth analysis of youth sexualities as they shape and are shaped by public feelings and by American social, cultural, and political contexts. The idea of youth sexuality makes many adults anxious, but sexuality is a very real part of youth and is the subject of many important social issues. Society now increasingly, sometimes grudgingly, recognizes youth as sexual actors; this collection examines contradictory public feelings related to youth sexualities, including perennial and new topics such as sex education, sexting, teen mothers, masculinities, sexualization, popular culture, the increasing visibility of LGBTQ youth, and the digital world. The contributors examine the back-and-forth of adult and institutional concerns, policies, and practices as they both govern and are influenced by youths' sexual subjectivities, identities, actions, and activism. The first volume historicizes "official knowledge" and cultural constructions of youth sexualities; offers examples of the "framing" of youth through research, film, the media, and transnational NGOs; and foregrounds youths' experiences of sexuality in everyday life. The second volume considers adult and youth activism. Through first-person and analytical accounts, the book offers multiple perspectives of ways in which adult professionals, such as youth workers and researchers, can work side-by-side with youth rather than "above" or "in front of" them.
