Book The Christian s Biggest Challenge And Other Hard Truths Concerning Suffering

Download or read book The Christian s Biggest Challenge And Other Hard Truths Concerning Suffering written by Clayton Howard Ford and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-04-19 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suffering, whether it has come through sickness, tribulation, or persecution, has been an integral part of the Christian lifestyle throughout Church history. But it is not an integral part of the modern Western lifestyle. Some would even teach that suffering should not be an integral part of the modern Christian lifestyle. The Word of Faith ministers would have us believe that God wants us to be healthy and wealthy all of the time, even on this earth in this lifetime. These essays challenge us to look afresh at the role of suffering, in whatever form it takes, in the Christian's life. They remind us that we Christians are called by God to suffer not only for our sake but also for the sake of others and for the sake of Christ. And they remind us that no matter how long we suffer, it is only temporary. We have another life waiting for us. These essays were written to help us to understand what the Word actually says about healing and suffering and so find the faith to endure.

  • Release : 2024-11-13
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 135 pages

Download or read book God s Breath written by Richard P. Holland and published by Covenant Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-11-13 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The apostle Paul taught his protege, Timothy, "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Committing scripture to memory does not prove that you are a good Christian. And not doing so is not a sign that you are a bad Christian. For me, this was a natural progression of deepening faith. Memorizing scripture was another way to abide with him. Throughout the Bible, we are encouraged to meditate on God's Word. The Psalmist wrote, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you" (Psalm 119:11). Memorizing scripture is another way we can hide his words in our hearts. After the death of Moses, Joshua became the leader of the nation of Israel, and God fortified him with these words: "Keep this book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it" (Joshua 1:8). If it was important for the leader of God's people to do this, it is important for us too!

Book Still in the Game

Download or read book Still in the Game written by Devon Still and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an era of cynicism and divisiveness, the tale of this young angel who refused to give up hope combined with the simple act of a young father doing what he ought to do—standing by his ailing daughter through thick and thin—set the social-media world into a whirlwind of positivity. Their inspirational story made the sports world (and the celebrity world alongside it) sit up and smile at the ESPYs. It grabbed the attention of audiences far outside of sports, too, on the Today Show and Good Morning America, and in the pages of People magazine, US Weekly, and more. Everyone seemed to want to know one thing: How did this dad and his little girl find a way to smile through the pain, and to keep fighting even when everything seemed to be going against them? The news media fell in love with the message and told the story the best they could in sound bites and interview clips, and yet the millions of readers and viewers who watched it all unfold in real time are still hungering for more. To Devon Still and his daughter, this wasn’t just a story. This was their test. This was their faith on the line. And this book is their chance to show the world just how powerful faith can be. It’s their chance to show people there’s always reason for hope—and to give them some actionable steps they can take to better their own lives, right now.

Book The Ten Demandments

Download or read book The Ten Demandments written by Loretta J. Womack and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-02-06 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Old Testament, God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, and in the New Testament, Jesus gave his disciples the two great commandments—to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and to love your neighbor as yourself. But since we know what God expects from us, what should we expect from our husbands, wives, and children? Moreover, what should we expect from ourselves? The Ten Demandments offers an inspiring and encouraging collection of the ten commandments—or demandments—that every husband, wife, and child should expect and demand of each other and themselves. It outlines all the demands, promises, and rules that every Christian relationship and household needs. The Ten Demandments provides ten inspiring demandments for each relationship in a faithful Christian home—husbands to wives, wives to husbands, parents to children, and even children to parents—offering biblically sound advice for keeping these promises. And even more, it helps each person keep ten demandments of themselves, reminding us to especially keep God first in our lives. Keeping God’s commandments is always important, and today we can also promise to hold ourselves accountable to our husbands, wives, and children with The Ten Demandments. By doing our parts and honoring the expectations of our loved ones, we can glorify and honor God, deepening our personal relationship with him.

Book Faithful Witness in a Fractured World

Download or read book Faithful Witness in a Fractured World written by Dr. Nicole L. Johnson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-09-11 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians have always looked to models within the Christian faith to guide their lives. At a time when the church is more identifiable by ugly partisan politics--what we call "crappy Christianity"--than by compassionate neighbor love, this book highlights the lives and work of seven individuals who are pursuing their Christian calling in humility and profound love for and service to others, this book highlights the lives and work of seven individuals who are pursuing their Christian calling in humility and profound love for and service to others. Their commitments have led to vocations in working with homeless women, employing refugees, lobbying on Capitol Hill for environmental protection, healing trauma in urban communities, peacemaking in Israel-Palestine, advocating for immigrants, and walking alongside people in addiction recovery. Their individual and collective witness offer compelling examples of authentic Christian life, which is marked in part by active, embodied faith in pursuit of the common good; a broad and inclusive love for all people; rightly ordered political identities and loyalties; and a commitment to work toward holistic redemption of both people and the systems that constitute our life together. In contrast to much of contemporary American Christianity, these models of faith demonstrate that Christians should focus much more on what we are for rather than what we are against.
