Download or read book Worry Less Live More written by Robert J. Morgan and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you bury worry before it buries you? Worry, which is essentially a strain of fear, is a rational response to real pressures and problems. Life is harder than we expect, and even the Lord Jesus, the Prince of Peace Himself, admitted, “Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matthew 6:34). He said, “In this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33). On one occasion, He even said, “Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say?” (John 12:27). Our souls are easily troubled. The world and its trials seem to only increase. In nearly forty years of pastoral counseling, Rob Morgan has seen a lot of changes in our culture. People are anxious, and everyone seems increasingly tense and taunt. We’re overextended, running on empty, and often running late. We’re worried and we’re weary. One moment we’re alarmed about global politics and the next we’re frustrated with a clogged commode or a cranky boss. Stress can have a way of keeping us on pins and needles from dawn to darkness. In this book Pastor Morgan leads the way through the investigation of the Bible’s premier passage on the subject of anxiety. Philippians 4:4–9 is God’s most definitive word about overcoming anxiety and experiencing His overwhelming peace. Dissecting the following eight practices this vital passage promotes will help you to wage war on worry: The Practice of Rejoicing The Practice of Gentleness The Practice of Nearness The Practice of Prayer The Practice of Thanksgiving The Practice of Thinking The Practice of Discipleship The Practice of Peace When we study and employ these practices effectively, we have the power to erase anxious thoughts and compose our minds with peace in any situation.

Book A Theology of Biblical Counseling

Download or read book A Theology of Biblical Counseling written by Heath Lambert and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the beginning of the biblical counseling movement in 1970, biblical counselors have argued that counseling is a ministry of the Word, just like preaching or missions. As a ministry, counseling must be defined according to sound biblical theology rather than secular principles of psychology. For over four decades, biblical theology has been at the core of the biblical counseling movement. Leaders in biblical counseling have emphasized a commitment to teaching doctrine in their counseling courses out of the conviction that good theology leads to good counseling…and bad theology leads to bad counseling. A Theology of Biblical Counseling is a landmark new book that covers the history of the biblical counseling movement, the core convictions that underlie sound counseling, and practical wisdom for counseling today. Dr. Heath Lambert shows how biblical counseling is rooted in the Scriptures while illustrating the real challenges counselors face today through true stories from the counseling room. A substantive textbook written in accessible language, it is an ideal resource for use in training biblical counselors at colleges, seminaries, and training institutes. In each chapter, doctrine comes to life in real ministry to real people, dramatically demonstrating how theology intersects with the lives of actual counselees.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent deaths of celebrities like Michael Jackson, Anna Nicole Smith, Heath Ledger, and Whitney Houston have shown a spotlight on the overuse and abuse of prescription drugs. Most people believe that prescription drugs are safer than illegal substances. But, when combined with other over-the-counter sedatives, prescription drugs can be every bit as powerful, addictive, and dangerous. In 2006, overdoses on a class of prescription pain relievers called opioid analgesics killed more people than those killed by overdoses on cocaine and heroin combined. Right now, among 35 to 54 year olds, poisoning by prescription drugs is the most common cause of accidental death—even more so than auto-related deaths. In Medicines That Kill, Dr. Marcum shines a light on the addictive power of prescription medication and how you can protect yourself and your family by practicing healthy habits.

Book Reading the Bible in the Strange World of Medicine

Download or read book Reading the Bible in the Strange World of Medicine written by Allen Verhey and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2003-12-11 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author of such major books as Remembering Jesus: Christian Community, Scripture, and the Moral Life, Allen Verhey has become one of today's most trusted Christian voices in contemporary ethics, including the moral challenges that new medical technologies pose to Christian faith and decision-making. With this new book Verhey brings the biblical tradition to bear on contemporary bioethical concerns. Drawing on an unmatched depth of insight in these two realms, Verhey explores how the Bible can illuminate and guide medical ethics. He argues that churches are called to think and speak clearly about bioethical concerns, and he lays out here the scriptural tools for them to do so. After firmly grounding Christian ethical discourse in Scripture, Verhey shows how the Bible can be applied to such pressing questions as suffering, genetic intervention, abortion, reproductive technologies, end-of-life care, physician-assisted suicide, and more. Filled with faith-based wisdom and apt illustrations of the moral dilemmas discussed, this book is a must-read for Christians grappling with the ethical dimensions of medicine today.

Book Take Two Psalms and Call Me in the Morning

Download or read book Take Two Psalms and Call Me in the Morning written by Robert M Gullberg, M D and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-01-24 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having problem with depression, anxiety, anger, addiction, life change, fear, guilt, loneliness, PTSD, illness, stress, burnout, or moral failure? Then this book is for you. Essentially, it is a book of God's prescription from Psalms in response to life's struggles. The Great Physician wants to be your prime source of hope to help you cope with pain and difficulties. "Take two Aspirins and call me in the morning" was a popular saying used by physicians well over 100 years ago. On March 6, 1899, acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), was patented by Bayer & Co. in Germany under the trade name "Aspirin". It's still one of the most highly used medications world-wide. It's active ingredient, salicin, has been used for centuries to alleviate pain and fever. Even the famous Greek physician Hippocrates (460-370 B.C.) was known to have used it. Today, about 40 billion aspirin tablets are consumed annually. There's an alternative plan for wellness besides aspirin or other medical treatments-- redirecting the old standard of therapy of our problems is the theme of this book. Take Two Psalms and call me in the morning addresses health problems that are common in clinical practice. The theme of this book is that God wants us to go to Him first, with an honest and open heart. He is the most caring Physician in our lives. He desires to work in us through our weaknesses, which can be magnified when we carry mental stress. He allows us to walk through these experiences so that we can learn to turn our faces toward Him. It is not that doctors, counseling, friends, and medications (natural or not) can't be beneficial. It's just important that we consider what God has to say about our problems. Don't leave God out of our healing equation. Many people may ask, "How can reading a Psalm help me more than medication for my problem?" To answer, we must understand first that most of the Psalms are prayers to God. The Bible teaches us that God pays as much attention to the person praying to him as the words that are read, meditated on or spoken. God wants a deep relationship with us, his adopted children. He wants to guide us and answer our prayers that we direct to him. Jesus teaches us in John 16:24, "Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete." One of the most exciting things about the Christian life is the knowledge that when we pray, God is listening. Our Father is delighted when we come to him with our petitions and concerns, and the book of Psalms is rich with examples of how to pray wholeheartedly.I am not a psychologist, professional counselor, or psychiatrist but I have been a practicing clinical physician and have cared for thousands of patients for over 30 years. Every day I see the daily mental and physical obstacles people face in their lives. Rather than pills, herbs, and therapy, I hope Going to God First will become the primary prescription for many of the battles you face. His prescription never fails.God has answers for your problems that will change your life for the better and help to transform you, body, mind, and spirit. He may direct you to healthcare professionals, a new diet, exercise, medication, or therapy to aid you in your journey to wellness. Your journey of good health begins with him.Psalms for Wellness is the second section of this book on pages 105-150 which will draw you closer to God. There are TWO primary parts in this section: Learning to Go to God First in the many circumstances in your life; and Knowing God Better through the Psalms. King David knew God extremely well. He ascribed to God over 100 attributes. God will reveal insights into his character from Psalms that will give you a glimpse of his glory. Use this section of the book as a source for individual or corporate prayer.
