Book excerpt: The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) reflection questions that help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” that highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” that show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” that identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on every page of the Bible. The letters to Timothy and Titus are among Paul's most personal and practical epistles. The apostle writes to instruct these younger men in the importance of sound doctrine and to urge them to rebuke false teaching. This accessible study shows how Paul's letters exhort all Christians to protect and pass on the true gospel of Jesus Christ, which has the power to save and transform sinners.

Book 1 and 2 Timothy Titus and Philemon

Download or read book 1 and 2 Timothy Titus and Philemon written by Scot McKnight and published by HarperChristian Resources. This book was released on 2023-08-15 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leading People into the Way of Jesus You might not immediately think of yourself as a “leader,” but the apostle Paul likely would. When Paul uses the term leader in a church context he includes anyone who mentors or cares for people into the way of Jesus. In this volume of the New Testament Everyday Bible Study series, Scot McKnight explores four letters written by Paul to three pastoral leaders—Timothy, Titus, and Philemon—and how they model wise advice for leaders in the churches of Ephesus, Crete, and Colossae. Throughout the study of these four letters, McKnight reveals important elements of leadership for us today through Paul’s mentoring of these three leaders. The first three letters are commonly referred to as the Pastoral Epistles, as Paul pastors Timothy and Titus on how to lead churches in Ephesus and Crete, and in the fourth letter, Paul pastors Philemon to lead a house church through a challenge. While these letters are specific to their contexts, they offer timeless wisdom for all sorts of church leaders, from parents and teachers to pastors and business leaders. In the New Testament Everyday Bible Study Series, widely respected biblical scholar Scot McKnight combines interpretive insights with pastoral wisdom for all the books of the New Testament. Each volume provides: Original Meaning. Brief, precise expositions of the biblical text and offers a clear focus for the central message of each passage. Fresh Interpretation. Brings the passage alive with fresh images and what it means to follow King Jesus. Practical Application. Biblical connections and questions for reflection and application for each passage.

Book Lifelight Timothy Titus Philemon Leaders Guide

Download or read book Lifelight Timothy Titus Philemon Leaders Guide written by Michael Henricks and published by Life Light In-Depth Bible Stud. This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (9 sessions) This study is part of the LifeLight Bible study series of in-depth studies of Bible books. The goal of LifeLight is that through a regular program of in-depth personal and group study of Scripture, more and more Christian adults may grow in their personal faith in Jesus Christ. Focusing on the vital importance of sound doctrine (that is, teaching), Paul writes to Timothy that the Gospel is essential to the church's life, for it gives the divine gift of faith even to blasphemers and persecutors and violent men. Yet the Law is also good, and it must be used properly. The church's faithful teaching of the pure Word of God-both Law and Gospel-must never become mixed with false teachings, because such falsehoods will only lead people away from the faith. Timothy/Titus/Philemon is an original LifeLight study and includes: To a True Son in the Faith (1 Timothy 1); Living the Faith Together (1 Timothy 2-3); The Truths of the Faith Must Remain Central (1 Timothy 4:1-6:2); The Value of Faith above All Other Things (1 Timothy 6:3-21); Faith in the Midst of Hardship (2 Timothy 1:1-2:13); Faith Put to Action in Life (2 Timothy 2:14-3:17); Guard against Those Things That Attack Faith (2 Timothy 4; Titus 1); Faithful Teaching Produces Faithful Living (Titus 2-3); Love for Neighbor Arises from Faith (Philemon)

Book A Commentary on 1 2 Timothy Titus Philemon

Download or read book A Commentary on 1 2 Timothy Titus Philemon written by David Pawson and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2015-09-08 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul's letters to Timothy and Titus have sometimes been labelled his 'Pastoral Epistles'. Scholars have assigned them to a later period in Paul's ministry, when churches he founded were more settled in structure, perhaps after release from his first imprisonment in Rome and during a second (which may be true). Others postulate a later pseudonymous writer, claiming to be Paul (which may not be true). The fact is that all Paul's letters are 'pastoral' in content, full of paternal care and concern for his converts and their fellowships. What really distinguishes these is that they are addressed to individuals rather than churches. So it seems more appropriate to classify them as his 'Personal' correspondence. We can therefore expect them to reveal more of his personal relationship with his and their reactions to his delegated responsibilities, giving helpers their unique interest and relevance. It also enables us to include the brief note to Philemon, whose importance in the New Testament tends to be overlooked.
