Book Biaxial Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture

Download or read book Biaxial Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture written by Andrea Carpinteri and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-03-19 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS) Technical Commitee on Fatigue of Engineering Materials and Structures (TC3) decided to compile a Special Technical Publication (ESIS STP) based on the 115 papers presented at the 6th International Conference on Biaxial/Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture. The 25 papers included in the STP have been extended and revised by the authors. The conference was held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 25-28 June 2001, and was chaired by Manual De Freitas, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon. The meeting, organised by the Instituto Superior Tecnico and sponsored by the Portuguese Minesterio da Cienca e da Tecnologia and by the European Structural Integrity Society, was attended by 151 delegates from 20 countries. The papers in the present book deal with the theoretical, numerical and experimental aspects of the Multiaxial fatigue and fracture of engineering materials and structures. They are divided in to the following six sections; Multiaxial Fatigue of Welded Structures; High cycle Multiaxial fatigue; Non proportional and Variable-Amplitude loading; Defects, Notches, Crack Growth; Low Cycle Multiaxial Fatigue; Applications and Testing Methods. As is well-known, most engineering components and structures in the mechanical, aerospace, power generation, and other industries are subjected to multiaxial loading during their service life. One of the most difficult tasks in design against fatigue and fracture is to translate the information gathered from uniaxial fatigue and fracture tests on engineering materials into applications involving complex states of cyclic stress-strain conditions. This book is the result of co-operation between many researchers from different laboratories, universities and industries in a number of countries.

Book Biaxial Fatigue of Metals

Download or read book Biaxial Fatigue of Metals written by Jaap Schijve and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-08-25 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Problems of fatigue under multiaxial fatigue loads have been addressed in a very large number of research publications. The present publication is primarily a survey of biaxial fatigue under constant amplitude loading on metal specimens. It starts with the physical understanding of the fatigue phenomenon under biaxial fatigue loads. Various types of proportional and non-proportional biaxial fatigue loads and biaxial stress distributions in a material are specified. Attention is paid to the fatigue limit, crack nucleation, initial micro crack growth and subsequent macro-crack in different modes of crack growth. The interference between the upper and lower surfaces of a fatigue crack is discussed. Possibilities for predictions of biaxial fatigue properties are analysed with reference to the similarity concept. The significance of the present understanding for structural design problems is considered. The book is completed with a summary of major observations.

Book Infrastructure Systems for Nuclear Energy

Download or read book Infrastructure Systems for Nuclear Energy written by Thomas T. C. Hsu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-12-02 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing sufficient energy resources to replace coal, oil and gas is a globally critical necessity. Alternatives to fossil fuels such as wind, solar, or geothermal energies are desirable, but the usable quantities are limited and each has inherent deterrents. The only virtually unlimited energy source is nuclear energy, where safety of infrastructure systems is the paramount concern. Infrastructure Systems for Nuclear Energy addresses the analysis and design of infrastructures associated with nuclear energy. It provides an overview of the current and future nuclear power industry and the infrastructure systems from the perspectives of regulators, operators, practicing engineers and research academics. This book also provides details on investigations of containment structures, nuclear waste storage facilities and the applications of commercial/academic computer software. Specific environments that challenge the behavior of nuclear power plants infrastructure systems such as earthquake, blast, high temperature, irradiation effects, soil-structure interaction effect, etc., are also discussed. Key features: Includes contributions from global experts representing academia and industry Provides an overview of the nuclear power industry and nuclear infrastructure systems Presents the state-of-the-art as well as the future direction for nuclear civil infrastructure systems Infrastructure Systems for Nuclear Energy is a comprehensive, up-to-date reference for researchers and practitioners working in this field and for graduate studies in civil and mechanical engineering.

Book Damping Properties of Viscoelastic Materials Under Biaxial Stress

Download or read book Damping Properties of Viscoelastic Materials Under Biaxial Stress written by Ahid D. Nashif and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The damping characteristics of a temperature independent viscoelastic material are determined under axial, shear, and several combinations of both axial and shear loadings. A method for measuring these properties is devised by considering a double lap joint specimen and measuring the area of the hysteresis loops which resulted from the cyclic loading of the specimen under axial, shear, and several combinations of both axial and shear conditions. The complex elastic and shear moduli and Poisson's ratio are presented as a function of the strain amplitude. The experimental results of the damping properties under biaxial stresses are found to be in good agreement with the theoretical analysis. (Author).

Book Biaxial Characterization and Mean field Based Damage Modeling of Sheet Molding Compound Composites

Download or read book Biaxial Characterization and Mean field Based Damage Modeling of Sheet Molding Compound Composites written by Schemmann, Malte and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-09 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this work lies on the microstructure-based modeling and characterization of a discontinuous fiber-reinforced thermoset in the form of sheet molding compound (SMC). A microstructure-based parameter identification scheme for SMC with an inhomogeneous fiber orientation distribution is introduced. Different cruciform specimen designs, including two concepts to reinforce the specimens' arms are evaluated. Additionally, a micromechanical mean-field damage model for the SMC is introduced.

Book Biaxial Testing for Fabrics and Foils

Download or read book Biaxial Testing for Fabrics and Foils written by Paolo Beccarelli and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a well-structured, critical review of current design practice for tensioned membrane structures, including a detailed analysis of the experimental data required and critical issues relating to the lack of a set of design codes and testing procedures. The technical requirements for biaxial testing equipment are analyzed in detail, and aspects that need to be considered when developing biaxial testing procedures are emphasized. The analysis is supported by the results of a round-robin exercise comparing biaxial testing machines that involved four of the main research laboratories in the field. The biaxial testing devices and procedures presently used in Europe are extensively discussed, and information is provided on the design and implementation of a biaxial testing rig for architectural fabrics at Politecnico di Milano, which represents a benchmark in the field. The significance of the most recent developments in biaxial testing is also explored.
