All the letters are woven together into a fabric that reads as a complete and coherent narrative of a sound business and investment philosophy. As an aid to all readers, and to enable readers of the previous editions to see what is new in this one, a disposition table at the end of the book shows the various places in this collection where selections from each year's letter appear. Footnotes throughout indicate the year of the annual report from which essays are taken. To avoid interrupting the narrative flow, omissions of text within excerpts are not indicated by ellipses or other punctuation. Book The Modi Effect

Download or read book The Modi Effect written by Lance Price and published by Quercus. This book was released on 2015-03-24 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of Where Power Lies and The Spin Doctor's Diary, comes a new book that tells the story of Narendra Modi's meteoric rise to power on the international stage, The Modi Effect: Inside Narendra Modi's Campaign to Transform India. With exclusive access to the architects of Modi's campaign, Prime Minister Modi and his current cabinet, Mr. Price has delivered an insider's account of this incredible political movement. In examining Modi's character and his position as leader of an increasingly powerful nation, Mr. Price explores the global impact of Modi's victory and its on-going transformation of international politics. On May 16, 2014, Narendra Modi was declared the winner of the largest democratic election ever conducted in human history. But how did this impoverished chai wallah, who sold tea on trains as a boy, rise to become Prime Minister of India? Political parties in the West pride themselves on the sophistication of their election strategies, but they all have a lot to learn from this election. Modi's campaign was a master class in modern electioneering. His team created an election machine that broke new ground in the use of social media, the Internet, mobile phones, and digital technologies. Modi took part in thousands of public events, but in such a vast country it was impossible to visit every town and village in person. How did he do it? Via "virtual Modi"-a life-sized 3D hologram-beamed to parts of the vast nation he could not reach in person. These pioneering techniques brought millions of young people-the holy grail of election strategists everywhere-to ballot boxes. Under Narendra Modi's leadership the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won a crushing victory in the 2014 general election leaving the Congress Party of the Gandhi political dynasty in disarray. For the first time in the history of India, an opposition leader swept to power with an overall majority. Former BBC correspondent and political consultant Lance Price was granted exclusive access to Prime Minister Modi and his team of advisers to write this book. With complete freedom to tell the story as he found it, Price details Modi's rise to power, the extraordinary election victory, and its aftermath. The book examines Modi's rise, his unprecedented mass appeal despite the controversies surrounding him (including the West shunning him), and the pivotal role he will now play on the international stage. The Modi Effect exposes the changing landscape of electioneering in twenty-first century global politics through the story of Modi's campaign, when message management and technological wizardry combined to create a vote-winning colossus.

Book The Freedom of Life

Download or read book The Freedom of Life written by Annie Payson Call and published by IndyPublish.com. This book was released on 1905 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Purchase one of 1st World Library's Classic Books and help support our free internet library of downloadable eBooks. Visit us online at www.1stWorldLibrary.ORG - - INTERIOR freedom rests upon the principle of non-resistance to all the things which seem evil or painful to our natural love of self. But non-resistance alone can accomplish nothing good unless, behind it, there is a strong love for righteousness and truth. By refusing to resist the ill will of others, or the stress of circumstances, for the sake of greater usefulness and a clearer point of view, we deepen our conviction of righteousness as the fundamental law of fife, and broaden our horizon so as to appreciate varying and opposite points of view. The only non-resistance that brings this power is the kind which yields mere personal and selfish considerations for the sake of principles. Selfish and weak yielding must always do harm. Unselfish yielding, on the other hand, strengthens the will and increases strength of purpose as the petty obstacles of mere self-love are removed. Concentration alone cannot long remain wholesome, for it needs the light of growing self-knowledge to prevent its becoming self-centred. Yielding alone is of no avail, for in itself it has no constructive power. But if we try to look at ourselves as we really are, we shall find great strength in yielding where only our small and private interests are concerned, and concentrating upon living the broad principles of righteousness which must directly or indirectly affect all those with whom we come into contact.

It was a time of turmoil when several Adivasis in the Chhotanagpur region were falling prey to the false preaching of the Christian churches and were forced to embrace Christianity. It was a ploy by the British to convert Adivasis into Christianity in an attempt to stem protests. Birsa Munda and his family also believed in the preaching initially and converted to Christianity. Soon, however, Birsa saw through the trickery and not merely did he convert to Hinduism again, he also convinced several Adivasis who had converted to Christianity to embrace Hinduism once again. It was this Birsa Munda who later became ‘God’ of the Adivasis and came to be regarded as ‘Dharti-Aba’ or ‘Father of the Universe.’ The British administration was jolted and in an attempt to nab Birsa announced a reward of Rs 500 for his arrest. The British trick worked and some greedy informers of the British captured Birsa when he was sleeping at night. This book, a biography of the great Adivasi leader, Birsa Munda, tries to capture some of the brave glimpses from the life of a daring revolutionary who gave up all he had to fight for the rights of his people and to ensure the freedom of his motherland.
