Book Using BFOLDS to Characterize Fire Regimes

Download or read book Using BFOLDS to Characterize Fire Regimes written by Wenbin Cui and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forest fires are the result of complex interactions of weather and vegetation and are highly probabilistic. Characterizing forest fire regimes, the synoptic properties of spatio-temporal variability of individual fires, is important for many forest and fire management purposes. BFOLDS 1.0 (Boreal Forest Landscape Dynamics Simulator) simulates forest fires and forest succession for large areas over long periods. Resulting fire regime simulations are emergent properties of many stochastic and spatially explicit model processes as well as user assumptions and input data. Here the authors demonstrate the use of BFOLDS in characterizing a forest fire regime, using a large boreal ecoregion as an example and readily available forest cover and spatial weather data as primary input.--Document.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will help structural geologists keep abreast of rapid changes in work practices resulting from the personal computer revolution. It is organized into six parts: I Computer-Aided Learning; II Microstructural Analysis; III Analysis of Orientation Data; IV Strain and Kinematic Analysis; V Mathematical and Physical Modeling; VI Structural Mapping and GIS. The 45 contributing authors explain how to: set up computer-aided teaching and learning facilities on a low budget; illustrate tectonic strain concepts with a drawing program; integrate multimedia presentations into structural coursework; analyze microstructures with computer-aided microscopy; produce sophisticated stereonets with custom software for both the Mac and IBM PC; evaluate orientation data using a spreadsheet program; model the development of macrostructures and microstructures numerically; integrate structural and geophysical data; and apply PC technology to the production of structural maps, cross sections, and block diagrams. The editor's own contributions reveal the inner workings of his renowned structural research applications which are used in hundreds of universities worldwide. Commercial and non-commercial applications of particular interest to structural geologists are reviewed. This volume will prove an invaluable resource for professors, instructors, and research students, as well as research scientists in the public services and exploration industries. If you are such a person, have you lectured with the aid of a gyroscopic mouse? Or used Bézier curves to model heterogeneous deformation? Or analyzed a fold structure using a digital terrain model? If not, you'll need to rush out and buy this book before the next wave of new technology hits!

Book File Interchange Handbook

Download or read book File Interchange Handbook written by Brad Gilmer and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2012-11-12 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the professional film and television industries move away from conventional media and toward computer-based technology, file formats have become a key enabling technology. Users are aware that they need to move to networked teleproduction, and they are aware that various file formats are available, but they don't have a clear understanding of their advantages and disadvantages (Should I use Windows Media 9 or QuickTime?). For example, as many versions of one movie are needed (subtitle, TV or Airplane)a master file is now created with metadata controling which features (subtitles, editing) are needed. This book is the authoritative work on all professional file formats for film and television, globally. Covers all major professional file formats, including the Digital Picture Exchange (DPX), General eXchange Format (GXF), Material eXchange Format (MXF), Advanced Authoring Format (AAF), QuickTime and Windows Media-in most cases by the lead author of the format.
