What have I done to deserve this? Will the pain ever go away? How can God just stand by and let this happen? What do I have left to hope for? Writing from insights gained not only through her own valleys of deep hurt but also from years of study and counseling others through life’s heartaches, Kay Arthur shows how pain can be the doorway that leads you to deeper understanding, renewed purpose, and greater intimacy with God. Without glossing over the realities of sorrow, she will guide you through twelve pivotal truths about healing and hurt. These key principles will become anchors for your soul, reminding you that your pain does have purpose, that difficult times can make you more like Jesus, and that there is always hope for the future. Because no matter how deep the hurt, God’s love runs deeper still. Includes a Study Guide and Prayer Journal to help you draw closer to God.

Download or read book The hurt ful body written by Tomas Macsotay and published by Manchester University Press. This book was released on 2017-07-21 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a cross-disciplinary approach to pain and suffering in the early modern period, based on research in the fields of literary studies, art history, theatre studies, cultural history and the study of emotions. The volume’s two-fold approach to the hurt body, defining ‘hurt’ from the perspectives of both victim and beholder - as well as their combined creation of a gaze - is unique. It establishes a double perspective about the riddle of ‘cruel’ viewing by tracking the shifting cultural meanings of victims’ bodies and confronting them with the values of audiences, religious and popular institutional settings and practices of punishment. It encompasses both the victim’s presence as an image or performed event of pain and the conundrum of the look – the transmitted ‘pain’ experienced by the watching audience.

Book Beyond the Grave

    Book Details:
  • Author : Floyd Vernon Chandler
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2009-10-01
  • ISBN : 1606089382
  • Pages : 207 pages

Download or read book Beyond the Grave written by Floyd Vernon Chandler and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2009-10-01 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What really happens to human consciousness at death? How might love and immortality be related? What is purgatory and do most religions teach the concept of purgatory? What is spirituality? Is the essence of the mystery we call "God" the same for the Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jew, and Muslim? Is it more important what my religion teaches me to believe, or is it more important that my religion enables me to become more loving and compassionate? How might one practice a reverence for life by our food choices? How do we balance work and spirituality? How do we balance spirituality and social-justice work? In this collection of sermons and reflections, Floyd Vernon Chandler suggests that there are many valid spiritual paths to Enlightenment and Holiness. Understanding the mystery we call "God" is akin to the story of five blind men touching different parts of a huge elephant. Each man's description and understanding of the elephant will vary based upon the location of his touch. The importance of any religion is determined by how much our respective spiritual paths lead us to grow in love and compassion for one another and for all other forms of life on this planet. The sermon and reflections found in Beyond the Grave: Love and Immortality express a Universalist theology that all souls will eventually be reunited with the mystery we call "God." Inherent in this collection of writings is the belief that there is truth in all religions and that there are many valid spiritual paths. No religious dogma or ideology has a monopoly on truth.

Mixed with distorted views because of sexual violations as a child, because of physical or sexual abuse as a teen, because of rape, because of incest, because of our insecurities, because we lack self-esteem, because we lack self-control, because of our lack respect for ourselves. We week love in all the wrong ways from the wrong people at the wrong times because of our own lustful desires and desperation that leads us into a deep level of sexual sins and addictions. But Jesus has the power to free you from all sexual sins, lustful desires, and acts of desperation. Read how he made me free from all the above!

Through personal anecdotes and poetry detailing her faith experiences, Balloy shows how God has worked in her life. She explores some of the doubts, fears, and perplexities she has experienced in various life situations and illustrates how she found comfort and guidance in the Bible. Blending a family is far more messy and complicated than any television show portrays. Beyond the Brady Bunch is a heart book, not a how-to book. Christians who find themselves in the midst of step-family life often feel hopeless and far from God, struggling with grief and unforgiveness. From personal experience the authors have found that all the how-to steps in the world don’t work if there isn’t first a heart change. Speaking with honesty and vulnerability they share their own mistakes and how God dealt with their hearts. The book will help stretch hearts, minds and homes past the image of “perfect” and another “happily ever after” into the hope of God’s promise to restore, heal and rebuild.

  • Author : Martin Joseph Ponce
  • Publisher : NYU Press
  • Release : 2012-02-01

Download or read book Beyond the Nation written by Martin Joseph Ponce and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part of the American Literatures Initiative Series Beyond the Nation charts an expansive history of Filipino literature in the U.S., forged within the dual contexts of imperialism and migration, from the early twentieth century into the twenty-first. Martin Joseph Ponce theorizes and enacts a queer diasporic reading practice that attends to the complex crossings of race and nation with gender and sexuality. Tracing the conditions of possibility of Anglophone Filipino literature to U.S. colonialism in the Philippines in the early twentieth century, the book examines how a host of writers from across the century both imagine and address the Philippines and the United States, inventing a variety of artistic lineages and social formations in the process. Beyond the Nation considers a broad array of issues, from early Philippine nationalism, queer modernism, and transnational radicalism, to music-influenced and cross-cultural poetics, gay male engagements with martial law and popular culture, second-generational dynamics, and the relation between reading and revolution. Ponce elucidates not only the internal differences that mark this literary tradition but also the wealth of expressive practices that exceed the terms of colonial complicity, defiant nationalism, or conciliatory assimilation. Moving beyond the nation as both the primary analytical framework and locus of belonging, Ponce proposes that diasporic Filipino literature has much to teach us about alternative ways of imagining erotic relationships and political communities.

Book Putting My Stuff in the Past

Download or read book Putting My Stuff in the Past written by Willie Eugene Marshall and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-10-19 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work study book is designed to help clergy and laity all over the world to find effective ways to deal with and eventually move beyond the hurt and pain, the stuff of their past through a positive process of healing and reconciliation before they find themselves as hurting people hurting other people. Everybody goes through something regardless of who they are. Therefore, we never know when people are going through their stuff. Nobody is exempt from pain and hurt. As we have heard many people say, Church hurt is the worst hurt, but in my opinion, hurt is hurt wherever it occurs. I would like to address church hurt, healing, and reconciliation both in the pulpit and in the pew focusing on the following: church hurt, the pastor and the pastors family, moving from one congregation to another, competition in the kingdom, rebuilding the trust, and people releasing people.
