It is wildly imaginative fiction that sears the mind with a fantastical tale so well written and plotted that it could be mistaken for reality. The reader is pulled into the story when a sick old man named Karl is found comatose in an alley in Los Angeles and taken to a hospital/rest home in Palm Springs. There he is cared for by a staff that includes Jason, a curious young man who is immediately drawn to the stranger. What is his story and how did he get to be the way he was found? Little by little, Jason gains Karl's confidence and he listens to a story that will change his life. Karl tells of a city under the streets of Berlin, Germany, he discovered during World War II. The underground community is populated by surviving Nazis who are planning to unite with Arab terrorists and a group of radical Hispanics living and operating in the United States. Their goal is to destroy the United States, followed by world domination. Beyond Deceit is more than a good read. It is a must read. Amazon five star reviews: "A must read for history lovers." "A nail biter." "A great read." "Very compelling." "An exciting book filled with suspense." "I can't wait for the next one." "Fantastic read." Raised in Dayton, Nevada,

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do forgeries do? Forgery Beyond Deceit: Fabrication, Value, and the Desire for Ancient Rome explores that question with a focus on forgery in ancient Rome and of ancient Rome. Its chapters reach from antiquity to the twentieth century and cover literature and art, the two areas thatpredominate in forgery studies, as well as the forgery of physical books, coins, and religious relics. The book examines the cultural, historical, and rhetorical functions of forgery that extend beyond the desire to deceive and profit. It analyses forgery in connection with related phenomena likepseudepigraphy, fakes, and copies; and it investigates the aesthetic and historical value that forgeries possess when scholarship takes seriously their form, content, and varied uses within and across cultures. Of particular interest is the way that forgeries embody a desire for the ancient and forthe recovery of the fragmentary past of ancient Rome.

The headlines can give us an unrealistic picture of what is actually happening. God is doing amazing things in this dark and broken world! He shows up today in the middle of our mess and provides reasons to be thankful, hopeful, and joyful. The headlines get the attention, but there is good news everywhere! Are you looking for it? Im all about looking for the good because when you do, that is exactly what you see. Blindness has taught me that no matter how dark life seems, there is still goodness and grace all around. That is why I love Bobby Lewis book! He helps us see beyond the bad news and focus our hearts on hope. I really think he may have the cure for the common headlines right here on these pages! After reading just one chapter, I was reminded that God is good. He is here. There is hope and joy is possible. Book excerpt: From the American southwest to the pampas of Argentina, from the stark beauty of rural New Zealand to the pastures of southern Ireland and Britain, something insidious stalks farm livestock, harvesting specific organs. Some of these cases have involved the sighting of unknown aerial objects. These craft have been observed abducting animals and the unfortunate beasts' carcasses have later been found to have had advanced surgical procedures performed upon them. The core of this book focuses on a farm in Northern Ireland, where many hundreds of sheep have been subjected to the cold and calculated attentions of a technically advanced intelligence, for purposes unknown. These unwanted intrusions have also involved similarly horrific processes being visited upon domestic pets around the world. The authors illustrate that this bone-chilling phenomenon has now appeared in its most sinister manifestation possible: it has emerged from the boundaries of the animal kingdom and materialized in the human realm... The managed, choreographed structure of official denial continues to propagate a Circle of Deceit...

Book Cheating and Deception

Download or read book Cheating and Deception written by J. Bowyer Bell and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-09-04 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cheating and deception are terms often used but rarely defined. They summon up unpleasant connotations; even those deeply involved with cheating and deception rationalize why they have been driven to it. Particularly for Americans and much of Western civilization, official cheating, government duplicity, cheating as policy, and conscious, contrived deception, are all unacceptable except as a last resort in response to threat of extinction. As a distasteful tool, deception is rarely used to achieve national interests, unless in relation to the deployment of military force. As an area of study, it has by and large been ignored.Intrigued by attitudes toward cheating and deception, the authors decided to analyze its roots, structure, and process. They asked fundamental questions: are there categories of deception, general steps in the process of deception, and ways to evaluate its results across time and in different modes? The book that results is a typology of kinds of deception, beginning with military deception, but extending into other categories and stages. In his introduction to this new edition, Bell outlines how the book came to be written, describes the mixed emotions toward the subject displayed by govenmental and nongovernmental funding sources, and speculates about its critical and commercial reception. He discusses widespread new interest in the subject, the research that has been undertaken since this book was first published, and its limitations. This book provides a general overview of this complex subject, creating a framework for analysis of specific instances of cheating or deception. It will be of particular interest to political scientists, those interested in military affairs and strategy, and psychologists. The general reader will find the book written with a light touch, drawing examples of cheating and deception in the pursuit of love and money. The specialist reader will be intrigued by its broad-ranging examples drawn from policy and politics,

Book An Analysis of the Economic Torts

Download or read book An Analysis of the Economic Torts written by Hazel Carty and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The economic torts for too long have been under-theorized and under-explored by academics and the judiciary alike. In recent years claimants have exploited the resulting chaos by attempting to use the economic torts in ever more exotic ways. This second edition, as before, attempts to provide practical legal research to both explore the ingredients of all these torts - both the general economic torts (inducing breach of contract, the unlawful means tort, intimidation, the conspiracy torts) and the misrepresentation economic torts (deceit, malicious falsehood and passing off) - and their rationales. And, as before, an optimum framework for these torts is suggested. However that framework has to take on board the apparent tension within the House of Lords as revealed in the recent decisions in OBG v Allan and Total Network v Revenue. Over 100 years ago the House of Lords in the seminal decision of Allen v Flood in theory set the agenda for the modern development of the economic torts. The majority in that case adopted an abstentionist approach to liability for intentionally inflicted economic harm, so that even where intentional and unjustified economic harm was inflicted, liability would not necessarily follow. However, this clear framework for the torts was obscured by subsequent case law, leaving the economic torts in a hopeless muddle by the start of the twenty-first century. A chance to finally sort out this mess was presented to the House of Lords in 2007 in the shape of three conjoined appeals, reported under the name OBG v Allan. The thrust of the judgments was that a framework for the economic torts was to be established and dicta and decisions that caused problems and incoherence were to be named and shamed. Re-affirming the abstentionist philosophy of Allen v Flood Lord Hoffmann and Nicholls and Baroness Hale in part relied upon the first edition of An Analysis of the Economic Torts, Lord Hoffmann noting "... if what I have said does anything to clarify what has been described as an extremely obscure branch of the law, much is owing to Hazel Carty's book An Analysis of the Economic Torts ". However, within 10 months of the OBG decision, a differently constituted HL in Total Network SL v Revenue and Customs Commissioners undermined this nascent coherence and did so by focusing on the conspiracy torts (previously dismissed by some commentators as anomalous or superfluous). Distinguishing OBG (which did not as such analyse the conspiracy torts) the House of Lords in Total Network may have shifted the general economic torts from the abstentionist to the interventionist track of development. Thus it is suggested that conflicting agendas for general economic liability can be discerned in the OBG and Total Network judgments. These agendas are debated (against the background of the growing academic debate) and a coherent approach suggested. As for the misrepresentation torts their potential for development is also discussed and the peril of allowing them to transform into unfair trading or misappropriation torts is explained. As a result, the second edition involves a substantial re-write of the first edition. However, the thesis of the author remains that a coherent framework for these torts can best be constructed based on a narrow remit for the common law.

Book excerpt: Would you buy a house without seeing the inside? Would you buy a car without checking under the hood and taking it for a spin? Probably not. Then why is it that you will choose a mate without knowing what's going on inside him? Most of you would agree that love letters are a great way into your heart. But though your man fills them with sweet words and promises, do you know what he's really saying between the lines? Stop looking at the words and check out how he writes. Hand-writing doesn't lie. Handwriting is brain writing; it is frozen body language. Finding Mr. Write gives you all the tools you need to uncover everything you should know about your man, no matter how well he thinks he's hidden it. Does he print more often than not? If so, he is very direct and to the point. How he loops his letters, how much pressure he puts on the page, his strokes and his slants, how he dots his i's and crosses his t's, where he writes on the page--all of these will tell you more about what's going on inside him than his financial statement can. Finding Mr. Write is the compass that will aid you in your search for Mr. Right.
