Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first full-length study of Jean Piaget as a philosopher and evolutionist. Messerly traces Piaget's earliest conjectures about knowledge through its further developments to its mature formulation as 'genetic epistemology.' Download or read book Beyond Price written by J. David Velleman and published by Open Book Publishers. This book was released on 2015-10-08 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In nine lively essays, bioethicist J. David Velleman challenges the prevailing consensus about assisted suicide and reproductive technology, articulating an original approach to the ethics of creating and ending human lives. He argues that assistance in dying is appropriate only at the point where talk of suicide is not, and he raises moral objections to anonymous donor conception. In their place, Velleman champions a morality of valuing personhood over happiness in making end-of-life decisions, and respecting the personhood of future children in making decisions about procreation. These controversial views are defended with philosophical rigor while remaining accessible to the general reader. Written over Velleman's 30 years of undergraduate teaching in bioethics, the essays have never before been collected and made available to a non-academic audience. They will open new lines of debate on issues of intense public interest.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "From Beyond" is a horror short story by American writer H. P. Lovecraft. It was written in 1920 and was first published in The Fantasy Fan in June 1934. The story is told from the first-person perspective of an unnamed narrator and details his experiences with a scientist named Crawford Tillinghast. Tillinghast creates an electronic device that emits a resonance wave, which stimulates an affected person's pineal gland, thereby allowing them to perceive planes of existence outside the scope of accepted reality. Sharing the experience with Tillinghast, the narrator becomes cognizant of a translucent, alien environment that overlaps our own recognized reality. From this perspective, he witnesses hordes of strange and horrific creatures that defy description. Tillinghast reveals that he has used his machine to transport his house servants into the overlapping plane of reality. He also reveals that the effect works both ways, and allows the alien creature denizens of the alternate dimension to perceive humans. Tillinghast's servants were attacked and killed by one such alien entity, and Tillinghast informs the narrator that it is right behind him. Terrified beyond measure, the narrator picks up a gun and shoots it at the machine, destroying it. Tillinghast dies immediately thereafter as a result of apoplexy. The police investigate the scene and it is placed on record that Tillinghast murdered the servants in spite of their remains never being found. Book Cajoled by Dopamine at Conception Beyond

Download or read book Cajoled by Dopamine at Conception Beyond written by Norah Wilson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-02-20 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life begins for us all at conception! The egg is penetrated by the sperm and then, within sixty-five seconds, forty-six chromosomes are cajoled by dopamine! The ecstatic high of dopamine sealed each one of our conceptions in a high of happiness that we all recall! In the very instance called our zero hour, our life began and we not only saw the lights but we were that light spark of life. Life for us began at this point that our parents’ cells were sealed with a happiness called our first high. Even before we had a heart, we had a forebrain that included the thymus gland in our cells when we were just a zygote. We all have a purpose in our DNA that responds to the very “cajoled by dopamine” high when our life cycle began at conception. Our life begins with conception, cycling only around the thymus; and then in maturity, the hypothalamus gland! Every life cajoled by dopamine is remembered in a high of happiness that is shared only of this kind with our DNA parents! Life begins at conception in a dopamine high that seals the two cells of the one male and his chosen female in a place that babies come from—heaven! Come find out what a tank is and how it shoots an army into the highway of heaven. Find out what every child has, including you and yours, and what no child should be born without being cajoled by dopamine with what his DNA is searching for at birth and throughout its life! Discover how two beautiful geraniums line the garden on each side of heaven. Only males can go to the pillars of heaven, kneeling in humbling minds at the doors of heaven that are called tulips! Find out that heaven is a place you either have as a female or a place you can love to go as a male. Now that you are curiously amused, get a cup of peaceful tea and let’s read about how we all are cajoled by dopamine!

Book C L R James s Caribbean

Download or read book C L R James s Caribbean written by Paget Henry and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 1992-06-09 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For more than half a century, C. L. R. James (1901–1989)—"the Black Plato," as coined by the London Times—has been an internationally renowned revolutionary thinker, writer, and activist. Born in Trinidad, his lifelong work was devoted to understanding and transforming race and class exploitation in his native West Indies, as well as in Britain and the United States. In C. L. R. James's Caribbean, noted scholars examine the roots of both James's life and oeuvre in connection with the economic, social, and political environment of the West Indies. Drawing upon James's observations of his own life as revealed to interviewers and close friends, this volume provides an examination of James's childhood and early years as colonial literatteur and his massive contribution to West Indian political-cultural understanding. Moving beyond previous biographical interpretations, the contributors here take up the problem of reading James's texts in light of poststructuralist criticism, the implications of his texts for Marxist discourse, and for problems of Caribbean development.

Book Experiences of Donor Conception

Download or read book Experiences of Donor Conception written by Caroline Lorbach and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. This book was released on 2003-01-15 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on the experiences of parents, offspring and donors and including her own and her family's story, this thought-provoking and informative book explores the process of donor conception. From finding out about an infertility problem, to considering whether - and how - to tell the children about their conception, and how those children feel as the adult offspring of a donor, she provides practical suggestions as well as in-depth consideration of the emotional and ethical issues involved. Lorbach takes the reader step-by-step through the process of deciding to use donor conception, choosing a donor, and discussing the decision with others - and considers the perspective of the donor alongside those of parents and offspring. Tackling difficult subjects such as disclosure and offspring's access to information about the donor, this important book is a much-needed resource for health, counseling and social work professionals as well as for the couples and families themselves.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Overpopulation, the most severe threat to human existence, has been caused by individual human beings following habit rather than adapting their behavior to changing conditions. The outcome is not in the lap of Fate; it is in the hands of individuals able both to be single-minded about their acts and to work with others. In clear, humane terms the author discusses all aspects of the dilemma - historical, economic, religious, political, racial, ecological and above all medical. She presents unusual concepts, fresh ideas, and startling statistics with thoughtfulness and authority. Over the last half-century, death control in the form of the elimination of killer diseases, reduction of infant mortality, and a great extension of adult life expectancy has created a rapidly worsening situation for which the only remedy is Birth Control - employing known methods and others yet to be devised - on a comparable scale. In the United States not much positive initiative can be expected from government, organzied medicine, the Catholic Church, or business. The impetus toward the small family, toward one child a piece for each parent, must come from informed and energetic citizens. This book describes encouraging beginnings already made and suggests methods for much greater accomplishments.
