Book excerpt: Beyond Buds is a handbook to the future of marijuana. Prohibition’s end has led to a technological revolution that’s generated powerful medicines and products containing almost zero carcinogens and little smoke. Marijuana icon Ed Rosenthal and leading cannabis reporter David Downs guide readers through the best new consumer products, and demonstrate how to make and use the safest, cleanest extracts. Beyond Buds details how award-winning artisans make hash and concentrates, and includes modern techniques utilizing dry ice and CO2. The book is a primer on making kief, water hash, tinctures, topicals, edibles, and other extracts from cannabis leaves, trim, and bud bits, and it goes on to explore and simplify the more exotic and trendy marijuana-infused products, such as butane hash oil (BHO), shatter, wax, and budder. More complex than lighting a joint, these innovative products call for new accessories — special pipes, dabbing tools, and vaporizers — all of which are reviewed and pictured in the book. Beyond Buds expands on Rosenthal’s previous book Ask Ed: Marijuana Gold — Trash to Stash. Completely updated with full-color photographs that are both “how-to” guides and eye candy, this book enables not only the health-conscious toker but also the bottom line–driven cultivator.

Clearly, those who are the first to deliver business-relevant AI will gain significant advantage. However, there is a problem! Our perception of AI success in society is primarily based on our experiences with consumer applications from the big web companies. The adoption of AI in the enterprise has been slow due to various challenges. Business applications address far more complex problems and the data needed to address them is less plentiful. There is also the critical need for alignment of AI with relevant business processes. In addition, the use of AI requires new engineering practices for application maintenance and trust. So, how do you deliver working AI applications in the enterprise? Beyond Algorithms: Delivering AI for Business answers this question. Written by three engineers with decades of experience in AI (and all the scars that come with that), this book explains what it takes to define, manage, engineer, and deliver end-to-end AI applications that work. This book presents: Core conceptual differences between AI and traditional business applications A new methodology that helps to prioritise AI projects and manage risks Practical case studies and examples with a focus on business impact and solution delivery Technical Deep Dives and Thought Experiments designed to challenge your brain and destroy your weekends

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When author Anita Katherine Dennis walked into the anthropology class during her sophomore year at Ohio University in 1964, she was sure the class would prove interesting. She had no idea how right she would be. In Beyond Myself, she narrates the love story that developed between her and her anthropology professor, Dr. Ben Dennis, an African tribal chief. In this memoir, she shares how God sustained her during her interracial, cross-cultural marriageespecially as she played the role of chiefs wife in a remote village in Liberia, West Africa. Her life was full of extremes. She met the president of Liberia in the Executive Mansionand slept in a mud hut. She visited European capitalsand lived in a remote African village. She flew on transatlantic flightsand was carried through the high forest in a chiefs hammock. Anita shares her struggles as she is accepted into the Mende tribe and lived in Vahun with an off and on kerosene fridge, swarming termites on the screens, a cyclone barely missing the house, and pungent elephant meat delivered in the middle of the night. Beyond Myself offers an example of West meets Africa personified. Anita tells how life with Ben was more than a marriage. It was an education and adventure wrapped into one. Ben allowed Anita to escape her narrow cultural confines and embark on a journey from farm girl to global citizen, with plenty of missteps throughout. From the Kirkus Review: "....Dennis led a life filled with remarkable events and translated them into an entertaining memoir....overall she proves to be a storyteller with a keen eye for detail and fully re-creates the complexities of her marriage and the exciting challenges she faced in Africa. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A racy book based on the personal experiences of a retired soldier seeking to find what lies beyond the perceptible universe. Various life-threatening experiences came his way, where he survived by a few centimetres accurate firing from the air, artillery, tanks, and machine guns. Even after retirement, he’s had narrow escapes on air, water and land. Numerous other experiences, where the improbable wishes were fulfilled extraordinarily; prophesies made accurate to the last letter and date; clairvoyants who could peep into the long-dead past and the misty future, warning in advance to face the disasters stoically; and many more, compelled him to look beyond and make conjectures based on the findings of the Modern Science and the revelations of the Vedanta. Some truths beyond controlling and regulating the perceptible universe have emerged out; perhaps? Read Empirical Universe and Beyond to find out.

Book Beyond Forgetting You

Download or read book Beyond Forgetting You written by Kathleen Cortese and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2005-07-07 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This family saga takes place in Ireland and New York City in the second half of the nineteenth century. It begins in 1849 when a thirteen-year-old boy, through a cruel twist of fate, lands at the tip of the island at Castle Garden. Frightened and alone, James Barry simply walks off the ship onto the citys congested streets and begins his adventure. For the next fourteen years he works on the docks and lives in the Bowery until, so disgusted by the draft riots, he signs up on a clipper and spends the next two years on the open seas. He winds up back in Ireland and meets and marries a girl from his own village. After three children and a futile attempt at farming land he knew he could never own he heads back to post Civil War America. Beyond Forgetting You is a personal account of how James family co-existed with their neighbors in a Westside tenement in lower Manhattan. The story is simultaneously told through his youngest daughters journals. Bridget optimistically describes her life and her familys plight to become middle-class. She tells the intricacies of inner-city living and gives a realistic look at social problems and how the lower class dealt with events, politics, ideas and uptown opulence. Manhattan was then much as it is today, a very overcrowded and exciting city where the family constantly struggled to survive while never losing their simple pleasure in being alive.

Book Beyond Neighbourhood Planning

Download or read book Beyond Neighbourhood Planning written by Andy Yuille and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2023-06 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past three decades have seen an international 'turn to participation' - letting those who will be affected by outcomes play an active role in decision-making - but there is widespread dissatisfaction with actual instances of citizen-state engagement. Neighbourhood planning in England exemplifies this contradiction. This innovative analysis brings theory, research and practice together to give insights into how and why citizen voices become effective or get excluded. Ethnographic data from detailed studies of neighbourhood planning are used to illustrate the constraints and possibilities of a wide range of participatory governance practices and social movements. The book concludes with recommendations to re-invigorate community involvement in planning and beyond.
