Download or read book The Best Clubhouse Ever written by Sharon Bomgaars and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-07 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A train came through our lines just below us. There were some demolition people from Regimental Headquarters Company who blew out a section of the outer rail. When the next train tried to come through, it derailed at the blown out track. This caused a lot of machine gun fire from that train, but they were firing blindly for we had not given ourselves away by firing back. When daylight came, it also was foggy. A lot of the people were wandering around the countryside. Most of them were German army women. All were dressed alike. The blouses were dark orange color and the skirts were brown. They were a sorry looking lot, sullen, tired and unhappy.
Download or read book CHIHUAHUA HILL written by CHRIS DABOVICH and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2010-09-23 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE DABOVICH FAMILY TREE SAVO (SAM) DABOVICH---GRANDFATHER CHRISTINA DABOVICH------GRANDMOTHER CHRIS DABOVICH------------FATHER EUSTOLIA DABOVICH-------MOTHER NIKO DABOVICH--------------UNCLE DANITZA SABOVICH---------AUNT EVA SZMARDICH-------------AUNT ZORA VUKASOVICH---------AUNT I am writing this as an adult. I will try to recollect some things about each one of my relatives as I remember them as a boy. My Grandfather, Savo was a slight man in my youthful eyes. I remember him sitting on his porcjh in the lowest rocking chair I have ever seen. He and my Grandmoher lived directly below our house on Chihuahua Hill. He was real old. My Grandfather would not rock on that chair. I would go to visit him and he would point to a wooden crate and he would tell me to sit down in his native Austrian dialect. He would say, "shedy, shedy" and he would say something to me in Serbian which of course I did not understand. He called me "Krsto". that meant Chris I suppose. I would visit my Grandparents maybe once a week. He was a very quiet man, who never went anywhere. I went to see him one day and the rocking chair was empty. I went home and told my parents that "Yedo" (Grandfather wasn't in his rocking chair. My Mom and Dad looked at each other and told me he had died. My eyes welled up with tears and I went to my room to cry. Imissed for a long time, but I eventually got over it. My Grandmother was a tough, yet gentle Lady. She was on the go all the times. All day and night time too. Her name was Christina, but I called her "Baba", (Grandmother). She wore a scarf or some such cloth on her head, all year long. She wore dresses down to her ankles and she had long sleeves to cover her arms. All I ever saw of her was her face and hands, really. She wasn't on the slight side, yet she wasn't skinny. Whn she made coffee, she would save the coffee grounds and mix them in the dirt where she had cabbage planted, as well as onions and radishes. When Yeda died, Baba started some kind of chant. It was a slow, dull, haunting chanting sound that she chanted as she did her housework, her gardening, even when she was doing nothing in particular. Every Saturday, my father would walk with her to the bank to draw money from her bank accont. She did not like to keep money at home; thus the weekly trips to the ban. She would draw enough mony for that particular weeks needs only. That was the only time she would leave her house. She was a very clean aldy. She would clean the dining table about four or five times a day. I never knew why. That's quirkey I suppose. When she died, we were not allowed to go to her services. We were too young.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do you draw your smelly dog? Your playful daddy? Your yummy mommy? See how one girl does it in this simple, clever picture book that's comprised of family portraits made out of objects. For example, her baby brother is so noisy—he's as loud as a whistle, a horn, and even a fire truck!—that she creates a picture of him with whistles for eyes, a horn mouth, and holding a fire truck. After the girl has described everyone in her family (including herself, in great detail), she asks, "What does your special family look like?" encouraging readers to create their own portraits. With a list of objects at the end of the book to use as a guide, this is the ideal choice for budding artists everywhere. Here's a wonderful exploration of simile and metaphor for young readers. And don't miss the companion book My Best Friend is as Sharp as a Pencil!

Book excerpt: Poor Louie! Life is perfect for this pup until Mom’s belly starts getting bigger. . . . A funny and touching tale for big siblings from the illustrator of the Bink and Gollie series. Louie’s life is great! A walk on the leash every morning, ice cream on Sundays, snuggling in bed at night with Mom and Dad. Even the playdates with Mom’s friends — despite their little crawling creatures who pull Louie’s ears — aren’t all that bad. But then things get weird: cold food on the floor, no room in the bed, and lots of new stuff coming into the house in pairs — two small beds, two little sweaters, two seats in the stroller. Does that bode double trouble ahead, or could there be a happier surprise in store for Louie? With perfect visual pacing, Tony Fucile takes a familiar story and gives it a comic spin.

Download or read book Piglet written by Melissa Shapiro and published by Atria Books. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the tradition of the beloved New York Times bestsellers Marley and Me and Oogy: The Dog Only a Family Could Love, a charming, inspirational memoir about empathy, resilience, kindness, and an adorable deaf blind pink dog. When Connecticut veterinarian Melissa Shapiro gets a call about a tiny deaf blind puppy rescued from a hoarding situation in need of fostering, she doesn’t hesitate to say, “yes.” Little does she know how that decision will transform her, her family, and legions of admirers destined to embrace the saga of the indomitable pink pup. One of the most anxious dogs Melissa had ever encountered, the traumatized Piglet weighed under two pounds upon his welcome into the Shapiro household—which included Melissa’s husband Warren and their three college-aged kids, plus six other rescued dogs. After weeks of reassurance, and lots of love, Piglet connected, gained confidence, and his extraordinary spirit emerged. Melissa soon forged a powerful bond with Piglet, allowing the two to communicate without sound or visual cues. Two months later, when the day arrived to say good-bye to the now dashing, six-pound pink boy dog with the larger than life spirit, Melissa faced a heart-wrenching decision. Could she hand him over to someone willing to give Piglet the full-time attention he required or could she adapt her schedule and her household to make a permanent place for him in her life and work? Of course, the answer was simple: love would find a way. Curious, engaged, and incredibly eager to learn, Piglet quickly became part of the family. What started out as a few simple Facebook posts of Piglet and his pack rapidly evolved into a global celebration of Piglet’s infectiously positive mindset. Piglet: The Unexpected Story of a Deaf, Blind, Pink Puppy and His Family fully illustrates this heartwarming story of one special little puppy with a purpose to teach the power of empathy, love, and kindness.
