Download or read book Memories of Lili written by Maria de Andrade and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2014-07-09 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who could resist a sweet, playful puppy with beautiful Cleopatra-like eyes in the window of a pet shop? Certainly not author Maria de Andrade, whose life was about to become much more lively and exciting thanks to the addition of a charming and adventurous little Beagle to the family. Memories of Lili is a heart-warming story about the life of Lili, a lovable Beagle with a penchant for running away from home and eating everything and anything she could get her paws on. From early on, Lili’s sweet personality and kind demeanor charmed everyone—and everything—she met. From neighbours (both of the human and animal variety) and family members to complete strangers, everyone Lili encountered on her much-loved outings couldn’t help but adore her. Although Lili liked the company of other dogs, was fascinated by cats and other animals and loved to be around people, her greatest pleasures in life were food, stealing things from her humans (especially food), long walks and excursions, and escaping her yard by any means possible. As if Lili’s escapades weren’t exciting enough, the addition of Miko the Miniature Poodle certainly spiced things up for de Andrade and her family and particularly for Lili. Though very different in their behaviours and personalities, Lili and Miko became accomplices and the best of friends, providing the family with more love, joy and amusement—as well as frustration and heartbreak—than they ever thought possible. If you’ve ever had a dog with a quirky personality that made you question dog behaviour as you know it, then Memories of Lili is for you.

Download or read book Hiding Boys in Bathrooms written by Giuliana Prada and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-02-06 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was the poster child for someone who would attract and yes, date dysfunctional males. Send me your poor, emotionally and geographically unavailable, huddled masses, yearning for credit, co-dependency, or just yearning to break free (probably from prison). Yes, send them to me. I will pick up the pieces or end up in pieces trying to do so. Why this had become the norm for me, I still had yet to figure out. Giulianas thirties were mired by her boozy romantic debacles. From sociopath swindlers and drug addicts, to pothead-surfers and commitment phobes, she wondered why she always seemed to attract such types. Why was she the poster child for girls who dated dysfunctional guys? She certainly wasnt purposely seeking these winners out? Or was she? Hiding Boys in Bathrooms reads with love, humor, and heartache, as you follow the romantic mishaps of a girl who seems to find love in all the wrong places.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As I was contemplating writing this book, after much encouragement from family over the years, I wasnaEUR(tm)t sure about undertaking the task. I wrestled with these thoughts most of one night, and by morning, I knew how to solve my dilemma. I got down on my knees beside the bed and prayed for God to give me a aEURoeGideon-likeaEUR sign to prompt my decision. Later that day, my wife, Nellie, and I were at WendyaEUR(tm)s drive-through for lunch when Nellie stepped out of the vehicle, reached down on the ground, picked something up, and said to me, aEURoeI got you something,aEUR as she placed two dimes in the palm of my hand. I had not told her about my prayer and definitely had not told her that the title of the book, if I wrote it, would be Two Dimes a Day. I first started to laugh then the tears came, and she said, aEURoeWhataEUR(tm)s wrong?aEUR I said, aEURoeDo you know the title of my book?aEUR She said, aEURoeNo.aEUR Divine intervention at His best!My memories of living with addiction began at the age of three. My father was well educated, attended Marshall University, and was a very talented journalist and linotype operator, working for numerous newspapers on the East Coast, including the Washington Post and the New York Times. Our lives should have been very normal and happy; however, his extreme addiction to alcohol quickly destroyed any sense of normalcy. My mother did everything humanly possible to keep our family intact; however, a broken home became evident. At the age of three and five, my brother, Billy, and I were immediately thrust into survival mode. Thanks be to God for His divine intervention into our lives. Also, thank God for Blanche McClintic, my dadaEUR(tm)s first cousin, who instilled a solid biblical foundation into our lives at a very young age. This foundation still sustains us today.

Some people can do their homework. Some people get to have crushes on boys. Some people have other things they've got to do. Seventh-grader Zoey has her hands full as she takes care of her much younger siblings after school every day while her mom works her shift at the pizza parlor. Not that her mom seems to appreciate it. At least there's Lenny, her mom's boyfriend—they all get to live in his nice, clean trailer. At school, Zoey tries to stay under the radar. Her only friend Fuchsia has her own issues, and since they're in an entirely different world than the rich kids, it's best if no one notices them. Zoey thinks how much easier everything would be if she were an octopus: eight arms to do eight things at once. Incredible camouflage ability and steady, unblinking vision. Powerful protective defenses. Unfortunately, she's not totally invisible, and one of her teachers forces her to join the debate club. Even though Zoey resists participating, debate ultimately leads her to see things in a new way: her mom’s relationship with Lenny, Fuchsia's situation, and her own place in this town of people who think they're better than her. Can Zoey find the courage to speak up, even if it means risking the most stable home she's ever had? This moving debut novel explores the cultural divides around class and the gun debate through the eyes of one girl, living on the edges of society, trying to find her way forward.

But one summer Sunday, Marty comes across something different on the road just past the old Shiloh schoolhouses -- a young beagle -- and the trouble begins. What do you do when a dog you suspect is being mistreated runs away and comes to you? When it is someone else's dog? When the man who owns him has a gun? This is Marty's problem, and he finds it is one he has to face alone. When his solution gets too big for him to handle, things become more frightening still. Marty puts his courage on the line, and discovers in the process that it is not always easy to separate right from wrong. Sometimes, however, you do almost anything to save a dog.

When his mother became President, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius—his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There's only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse. Heads of family, state, and other handlers devise a plan for damage control: staging a truce between the two rivals. What at first begins as a fake, Instragramable friendship grows deeper, and more dangerous, than either Alex or Henry could have imagined. Soon Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret romance with a surprisingly unstuffy Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations and begs the question: Can love save the world after all? Where do we find the courage, and the power, to be the people we are meant to be? And how can we learn to let our true colors shine through? Casey McQuiston's Red, White & Royal Blue proves: true love isn't always diplomatic. "I took this with me wherever I went and stole every second I had to read!
