Book Under Fire The Untold Story of the Attack in Benghazi

Download or read book Under Fire The Untold Story of the Attack in Benghazi written by Fred Burton and published by St. Martin's Press. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times bestselling inside account of the attack against the U.S. diplomatic and intelligence outposts in Benghazi, Libya On the night of September 11, 2012, the American diplomatic mission at Benghazi, Libya, came under ferocious attack by a heavily armed group of Islamic terrorists. The prolonged firefight, and the attack hours later on a nearby CIA outpost, resulted in the deaths of four Americans, including the American ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, the Information Officer, Sean Smith, and two former Navy SEALs, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, working for the Central Intelligence Agency. After the fall of Qaddafi, Benghazi was transformed into a hotbed of fundamentalist fervor and a den of spies for the northern half of the African continent. Moreover, it became the center of gravity for terrorist groups strategically situated in the violent whirlwinds of the Arab Spring. On the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks against the United States, a group of heavily armed Islamic terrorists had their sights set on the U.S. diplomatic and intelligence presence in the city. Based on the exclusive cooperation of eyewitnesses and confidential sources within the intelligence, diplomatic, and military communities, Fred Burton and Samuel M. Katz reveal for the first time the terrifying twelve-hour ordeal confronted by Ambassador Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, his Diplomatic Security (DS) contingent, and the CIA security specialists who raced to rescue them. More than just the minute-by-minute narrative of a desperate last stand in the midst of an anarchic rebellion, Under Fire is an inspiring testament to the bravery and selflessness of the men and women who put their country first while serving in one of the most dangerous regions in the world.

Book excerpt: On September 11, 2012, a squad of armed militants in Libya attacked the American diplomatic mission at Benghazi, killing U.S. ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other American diplomats. Although the vicious attack was initially reported as a protest against an anti-Islamic video, later evidence suggested that it may have been a coordinated terrorist attack—perhaps even tied to al-Qaeda. This begged the question: Did the White House brush off a terrorist attack in order to save face? Since then, the incident has developed into a full-blown partisan debate over whether the government was involved in a cover-up or not, and worse, whether the attack could have been prevented. The Benghazi Report is the Senate committee’s findings—the culmination of over a year’s worth of investigations and interviews, presented in full. Readers of The Benghazi Report will find many of the revelations shocking. Did the White House manipulate the facts? Why was the disclosure of information so unnecessarily slow? What is the connection between the mysterious deaths of fifteen Libyans who had been assisting the FBI’s investigation and a trail of incompetence left by foreign governments unwilling cooperate? Book excerpt: The harrowing, true account from the brave men on the ground who fought back during the Battle of Benghazi. 13 Hours presents, for the first time ever, the true account of the events of September 11, 2012, when terrorists attacked the US State Department Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA station called the Annex in Benghazi, Libya. A team of six American security operators fought to repel the attackers and protect the Americans stationed there. Those men went beyond the call of duty, performing extraordinary acts of courage and heroism, to avert tragedy on a much larger scale. This is their personal account, never before told, of what happened during the thirteen hours of that now-infamous attack. 13 Hours sets the record straight on what happened during a night that has been shrouded in mystery and controversy. Written by New York Times bestselling author Mitchell Zuckoff, this riveting book takes readers into the action-packed story of heroes who laid their lives on the line for one another, for their countrymen, and for their country. 13 Hours is a stunning, eye-opening, and intense book--but most importantly, it is the truth. The story of what happened to these men--and what they accomplished--is unforgettable.

Book Benghazi The Cover up

Download or read book Benghazi The Cover up written by Dan Butterfield and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2023-08-17 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2012 assault on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya was a premeditated 9/11 inspired terrorist attack. Sadly, until now, it’s never been recognized as one. More troubling, the Benghazi cover-up may well be at the center of the Obama, CIA’s claim of Russian Interference in the 2016 U.S. Presidential election as well as the driving factor in the FBI launching its Russia Probe during the height of the 2016 general election. On 9/11, 2012, the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya was attacked. The U.S. Intelligence Community identified the assailants as the terrorist group “Ansar Al Sharia.” The most plausible explanation for the 2012 assault: It was a planned 9/11 inspired terrorist attack, but that wasn’t the conclusion reached by the CIA and President Obama. Occam’s Razor is a philosophy of assessing issues predicated on the principles of plausibility. The philosophy can be summed up with the following statement: Among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions is likely the right one. In other words: In the American Southwest, if one hears hoof beats—think horses, not zebras. Instead, the CIA and President Obama ignored obvious facts, reaching for the dubious explanation—“The Benghazi attack was the result of an obscure video ‘Innocence of Muslims’ released over the internet.” One must ask: Why was the most plausible hypothesis (horses) bypassed in favor of an unsupportive theory (zebras) involving an obscure video where there was no evidence it had even been viewed by the Benghazi attackers? Was there an ulterior motive? Did the 2012 Presidential election play a role in the CIA’s assessment? Was the Benghazi cover-up an “Act of Treason” on the part of President Obama and the CIA? What were President Obama and the CIA trying to hide? “Benghazi” takes a deep look at the facts and myths surrounding the 9/11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya. The results are disturbing. Particularly troubling, Benghazi may be the nexus for the Russian Interference storyline of 2016—as well as the failed FBI’s Russia Probe investigation launched during the height of the 2016 Presidential general election.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[The contents of this report] should fundamentally change the way you view Benghazi." --Trey Gowdy, Committee Chairman, June, 2016 On September 11, 2012, an attack occurred against two US government facilities in Benghazi, Libya. As a result of these attacks, the US Ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens, died (the first US ambassador killed since 1979), as well as three other Americans. Controversy arose about whether the attacks were committed spontaneously or were premeditated, and whether the US government's response was adequate. Ten investigations followed into whether high-ranking US government officials, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, had acted improperly. The most important investigation was handled by the Republican-controlled US House Select Committee on Events Surrounding the 2012 Terrorist Attack in Benghazi. It issued nearly 1,000 pages in The Benghazi Report--with Additional and Minority Views in June 2016 and criticized the Obama Administration's handling of the attacks. It concluded that the State Department failed to protect US diplomats in Libya. Clinton, who at the time of the release of this report was the Democratic presidential candidate dismissed the findings of this report as did the Democrats on the House Select Committee in their minority report, included in the report.

The 2012 Benghazi attack took place on the evening of September 11, 2012, Islamic militants attacked the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, killing U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and U.S. Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith. Stevens was the first U.S. Ambassador killed in the line of duty since 1979. The attack has also been referred to as the Battle of Benghazi. Several hours later, a second assault targeted a different compound about one mile away, killing two CIA contractors, Tyrone S. Woods and Glen Doherty. Ten others were also injured in the attacks. Many Libyans condemned the attacks and praised the late ambassador. They staged public demonstrations condemning the militias (formed during the civil war to oppose leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi), which were suspected of the attacks.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton convened an Accountability Review Board for Benghazi to examine the facts and circumstances surrounding the 11 September 2012 killings of four U.S. government personnel, including the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, John Christopher Stevens, in Benghazi, Libya. A series of attacks involving arson, small-arms and machine-gun fire, and use of rocket-propelled grenades, focused on two U.S. facilities in Benghazi, as well as U.S. personnel en route between the two facilities. In addition, the attacks severely wounded two U.S. personnel, injured three Libyan contract guards and resulted in the destruction and abandonment of both facilities. This book examines whether the attacks were security related; whether security systems and procedures were adequate and implemented properly; the impact of intelligence and information availability; whether any other facts of circumstances in these cases may be relevant to appropriate security management of U.S. missions world-wide; and finally, whether any U.S. government employee or contractor, breached her of his duty.
