Download or read book The Passion Premise written by Bill Reamer and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-07-29 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Passion Premise is the third book in Bill Reamers The Dates, Scott Mountain trilogy. The storyline picks up after Ian Scotts passing in Seattle. Choices, consequences, actions, and reactions lead the characters on a thrilling, if not an outright dangerous, journey. Along the journey, the next generation is forced to mature rapidly as they are confronted with matters from the past. Though not totally chained to historical events, they are not totally free from them either. The past inhibits their future and decisions must be made and the consequences of those decisions endured. In the end it gets down to either choosing a life driven by passion with all of its accompanying precipitous peaks and valleys, or a more bland, lethargic, rudderless existence totally driven by the whim of external uncontrollable forces. The traditional themes of more is expected and the right thing to do is the right thing to do no matter the cost reverberate throughout the storyline but the phenomena of living a life with passion is the dominant message explored. The Passion Premise completes the series of these books that began almost ten years ago, or perhaps . . .

Download or read book Would I Lie to You written by Judi Ketteler and published by Citadel Press. This book was released on 2019-12-31 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “An interesting reported memoir about the power of honesty—not surprisingly, a surprisingly honest account.” —Gretchen Rubin, bestselling author of The Happiness Project “Some books change how you think. Some change how you act. Would I Lie to You? does both.” —KJ Dell’Antonia, editor New York Times Motherlode blog, and author of How to Be a Happier Parent Inspired by her popular New York Times article, “How Honesty Could Make You Happier,” award-winning journalist Judi Ketteler takes a deep dive into the hard truths about honesty, from the personal to the political . . . We’re incensed by politicians who lie and corporations that cheat, but when it comes to our own honesty choices, we often barely notice. So, what happens when we do notice? Judi Ketteler thought of herself as an honest person. And yet, she knew it wasn’t the whole story . . . How often was Judi engaging in the same dishonest behavior she was condemning in others? To answer that question, she started her “Honesty Journal,” and set out to confront her perennial fear of speaking the truth in a range of situations—including with friends, her kids, and even inside her complicated marriage. The result is a timely consideration of the joys and pains of truth in a world that seems committed to lying. “Great for generating discussion on the subject of authenticity and thinking through tough questions.” —Library Journal “Would I Lie to You? is filled with so many fresh insights and proactive solutions that it could pass for a masterclass on honesty.” —Camille Pagán, bestselling author of I’m Fine and Neither Are You “Candor, humor, and wry guidance for developing positive, forthright relationships with ourselves and others.” —Foreword Magazine

Download or read book The Choice for Europe written by Andrew Moravcsik and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The creation of the European Union arguably ranks among the most extraordinary achievements in modern world politics. Observers disagree, however, about the reasons why European governments have chosen to co- ordinate core economic policies and surrender sovereign perogatives. This text analyzes the history of the region's movement toward economic and political union. Do these unifying steps demonstrate the pre-eminence of national security concerns, the power of federalist ideals, the skill of political entrepreneurs like Jean Monnet and Jacques Delors, or the triumph of technocratic planning? Moravcsik rejects such views. Economic interdependence has been, he maintains, the primary force compelling these democracies to move in this surprising direction. Politicians rationally pursued national economic advantage through the exploitation of asymmetrical interdependence and the manipulation of institutional commitments.
Download or read book EU Asylum Policies written by Natascha Zaun and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-02-22 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book fills a significant lacuna in our understanding of the refugee crisis by analyzing the dynamics that lie behind fifteen years of asylum policies in the European Union. It sheds light on why cooperation has led to reinforced refugee protection on paper but has failed to provide it in practice. Offering innovative empirical, theoretical and methodological research on this crucial topic, it argues that the different asylum systems and priorities of the various Member States explain the EU's lack of initiative in responding to this humanitarian emergency. The author demonstrates that the strong regulators of North-Western Europe have used their powerful bargaining positions to shape EU asylum policies decisively, which has allowed them to impose their will on Member States in South-Eastern Europe. These latter countries, having barely made a mark on EU policies, are now facing significant difficulties in implementing them. The EU will only identify potential solutions to the crisis, the author concludes, when it takes these disparities into account and establishes a functioning common refugee policy. This novel work will appeal to students and scholars of politics, immigration and asylum in the EU.
