Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Beautiful Stories About Children To The Young Reader: Charles Dickens was one of the greatest among the many story-writers of "the Victorian age;" that is, the middle and latter part of the Nineteenth Century, when Victoria was Queen of Great Britain. Perhaps he was the greatest of them all for now, a generation after he passed away, more people read the stories of Dickens than those by any other author of that period. In those wonderful writings are found many pictures of child-life connected with the plan of the novels or stories. These child-stories have been taken out of their connections and are told by themselves in this volume. By and by you will read for yourselves, "The Christmas Carol," "The Chimes," "David Copperfield," "The Old Curiosity Shop," and the other great books by that fascinating writer, who saw people whom nobody else ever saw, and made them real. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are Stories Important for Children?Stories play a vital role in the growth and development of children. The books they read and the characters they get to know can become like friends. It's also good for children to understand that books are a useful source of information and that good reading skills are important for success in their future lives. Reading also helps children with their confidence levels, coping with feelings and language and learning.Confidence LevelsChildren who can read well are more likely to have higher confidence levels. This will benefit them in school as they'll feel able to participate fully in activities. Another part of building confidence and self-esteem is knowing where you fit into the world. Stories can help with this process by showing children what people's lives are like where they live and in other parts of the world.Language and LearningStories are a great way to introduce new words and ideas into a child's language - starting with picture books for the very young, working up to more complex novels for teenagers. Stories can help children learn about concepts such as shape, size, space and colour, up and down, inside and outside, numbers and the names of objects. They can also teach children about everyday tasks, such as how to brush their teeth, taking care of animals, cleaning and tidying and preparing food.Stories are also useful for teaching more complex ideas, such as the importance of sharing, the passage of time, compassion for others. They can be useful when trying to explain traumatic events, such as family break-ups and bereavement.Fiction based on real-life can also help children with their own life experience - it shows them how diverse the world is and that some people's lives are vastly different to theirs. And what's so great about learning through stories is that the process is done in a natural way. There's no actual teaching involved at all, they learn from simply reading the story.Relaxation Reading stories can be helpful for relaxation, before bedtime for example. They allow children to forget the stresses and strains of the day and indulge in fantasy for a while. The soothing familiarity of a much-loved story, the rhyming and repetition in a picture book, plus the sense of security that time spent reading together can foster, all help the child to relax.Development of ImaginationStories help to develop a child's imagination by introducing new ideas into their world - ideas about fantastical worlds, other planets, different points in time and invented characters. It'll encourage the children to realise that they can, and should, imagine anything they want. The beauty of stories is that they can be super realistic or incredibly fantastical. They can be reading about children growing up in exactly the same situation as them one minute and about another species, Martians holidaying on Jupiter for example, the next.Coping With FeelingsWhen children read stories that contain feelings it can help them understand and accept their own feelings. It helps them understand that there are other children who feel the same way and they are not alone. This helps the child understand that feelings are normal and should be expressed. Watching their responses to the feelings of the characters in the stories will give you some idea of how a child feels about certain situations and emotions. For example, how the child responds to the character in the story feeling sad or scared will give you some idea of how the child thinks. As you can see, children's stories are important for a number of reasons and form a vital part of the growing process. Being part of that process can bring writers a sense of satisfaction as well as being great fun.

Book From My Heart to Yours a Collection of Inspirational Childrens Stories

This book was released on 2019-06-20 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Stories Sassafras the Fly. This was a story that was created when I took my niece to college. A dragonfly decided to ride most of the day with us from one stop to the next. I thought it would make a cute children’s story. The Heavenly Patch. My granddaughter developed an eye irritation and had to wear a patch on her eye reluctantly. I thought it would be the awesome opportunity to discuss how God allows both good and bad things to grow but in the end only lets the good shine through. Why Oh Why. My grandchildren are always asking the question why. I thought it would be a great opportunity to put a play on words that would grab children’s attention and keep them interested. Basketball Joe on the Go. When my son was little, he loved to play basketball. It’s still his sport today. It was at the point that he would sleep with his basketball just to get a head start on the next day. I thought it would be fun to create a fun way to look at Joseph without his basketball and the perception of others who always associated him with what was attached to him. A Yellow Bird on my Shoulder. This story gives a glimpse of my grandson’s day in the park when he was introduced to a few birds, in particular, this yellow bird who decided to stop and chat with him for a while. It was an opportunity how children and animals connect in a way without words. Three Daddy Stories. Daddy, Can You Swing with Me? Daddy, Do You Talk to God? and Daddy, I Love You are all three stories that give insight into the important roles dads play and how children connect with them. I was thinking of my grandchildren and their relationship with their dad. Breathe a Rhyme NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana). This story in particular is really dear to my heart. It’s a play on words with rhyme and rhythm. It’s a call for the city of New Orleans to relax and feel the rhythm of the city. It was written especially for the children, given all the social ills and barriers that prevent them from being children as a part of my Breathe a Rhyme NOLA project for school-age children.

It reveals the discovery and exploration of the US. Some interesting topics include The Northmen, Hernando Cortez and the Conquest of Mexico, Columbus and the Discovery of America, and The Story of Acadia. Excerpt: "Many ages ago in North America, there was no spring or summer or autumn, but only winter all the time; there were no forests or fields or flowers, but only ice and snow, which stretched from the Arctic Ocean to Maryland. Sometimes the climate would grow a little warmer, and then the great glaciers would shrink toward the north, and then again it would grow cold, while the ice crept southward; but finally, it became warmer and warmer until all the southern part of the country was quite free from the ice and snow, which could then only be seen, as it is now, in the Polar regions."

This book was released on 2015-05-11 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reading to children is a wonderful activity and past time that both parents and teachers enjoy. Seeing their rapt, excited faces when there's a mystery to be solved, a surprise twist, or a happy ending is all the reward one needs. Not only are story books a child's first experience with written words and an introduction to education, but they are also a way to stimulate imagination and dreams. Some of the best short stories for kids are the classics. These stories have been around for generations, and are still best sellers and favorites in many families. These tried and true books will be around as long as parents pass on their love for great stories and enjoyable reading. Many of these classic books have lasted because kids have such a great time reading them. They're fun and exciting, and have beautiful and interesting illustrations. Many great stories for kids are available today in the bookstores as well as online. Few people today are aware of the fact that books written specifically for children did not exist before the 17th century. Prior to that time period it is was generally accepted that books were written exclusively for adult readers. In addition, printed works were highly expensive and were available primarily to people of means. Only minority of the adult population were literate, and even a smaller percentage of children living at that time were able to read and write. Today, we are blessed with proliferation of children's literature with a great variety of stories for kids geared to different age levels. The importance of reading to children is apparent to every parent. We can start reading stories for kids even to a baby or a toddler. Research shows that the baby in utero can hear her mother's voice and recognize it immediately after birth. Certainly even young babies love to hear the voice of their mother or father. Make sure to make the time you read with your child a pleasant time of bonding and closeness, to create positive associations with this activity in the young child's mind. Despite that this activity is of paramount importance, never force your child to read or listen to stories. It is much more important that the child enjoys the interaction between the two of you. If he or she is not in the mood to listen to short stories for kids, let him pick a game or different activity to do together. The most important aspect of your interaction should be mutual enjoyment. It is a good idea to encourage older siblings, relatives, and friends to read out loud to the younger children. There are many types of short stories for kids available to all, therefore you must search around according to your child's like and dislikes, or whether you want to nudge them in a certain direction or not. Short stories for kids are a great way to introduce kids to a new area of life or a new situation in a fun, timely manner. You should always make it a fun enjoyable thing to do, it should be about you and your child or children bonding and them learning from it too.
