This book was released on 2009 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Beam-recoil transferred polarizations for the exclusive $\vec{e}p \to e'K^+ \vec{\Lambda}, \vec{\Sigma}^0$ reactions have been measured using the CLAS spectrometer at Jefferson Laboratory. New measurements have been completed at beam energies of 4.261 and 5.754~GeV that span a range of momentum transfer $Q^2$ from 0.7 to 5.4~GeV$^2$, invariant energy $W$ from 1.6 to 2.6~GeV, and the full center-of-mass angular range of the $K^+$ meson. These new data add to the existing CLAS $K^+\Lambda$ measurements at 2.567~GeV, and provide the first-ever data for the $K^+\Sigma^0$ channel in electroproduction. Comparisons of the data with several theoretical models are used to study the sensitivity to $s$-channel resonance contributions and the underlying reaction mechanism. Interpretations within two semi-classical partonic models are made to probe the underlying reaction mechanism and the $s\bar{s}$ quark-pair creation dynamics.

Book Polarization Transfer in the Reaction 4He vec v E vec p 3H in the Quasielastic Scattering Region

Download or read book Polarization Transfer in the Reaction 4He vec v E vec p 3H in the Quasielastic Scattering Region written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a longstanding issue concerning possible nucleon modifications in a (dense) nuclear medium. Polarization transfer data for exclusive quasielastic electron scattering are a sensitive to the ratio of the electric and magnetic nucleon form factors in the medium. Although proper interpretation of the results requires accounting for such effects as final state interactions and meson exchange currents, their effect on polarization transfer is predicted to be small. Studies of model dependencies, e.g., the off-shell current operator and spinor distortions, have been done. Final results of a measurement of polarization transfer in the 4He($\vec{v}$, e'$\vec{p}$)3H reaction will be discussed. The experiments were carried out at MAMI, Mainz at a Q2 of 0.4 GeV2 and at the Thomas Jefferson Lab, Newport News, Virginia at the Q2 values 0.5, 1.0, 1.6 and 2.6 GeV2. Measured values of the transferred and induced polarization are compared with various theoretical calculations. The experiment showed a difference between the fully relativistic model with may indicate medium modifications of the form factor.

Book First Measurement of the Polarization Observable E in the vec P vec Gamma Pi n Reaction Up to 2 25 GeV

Download or read book First Measurement of the Polarization Observable E in the vec P vec Gamma Pi n Reaction Up to 2 25 GeV written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First results from the longitudinally polarized frozen-spin target (FROST) program are reported. The double-polarization observable E, for the reaction y2!2![pi]+n, has been measured using a circularly polarized tagged-photon beam, with energies from 0.35 to 2.37 GeV. The final-state pions were detected with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer in Hall B at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. These polarization data agree fairly well with previous partial-wave analyses at low photon energies. Over much of the covered energy range, however, significant deviations are observed, particularly in the high-energy region where high-L multipoles contribute. The data have been included in new multipole analyses resulting in updated nucleon resonance parameters. Lastly, we report updated fits from the Bonn-Gatchina, Jülich-Bonn, and SAID groups.

Book The Spin Structure of the Nucleon

Download or read book The Spin Structure of the Nucleon written by Bernard Frois and published by World Scientific Publishing Company Incorporated. This book was released on 1997 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its early beginnings at SLAC in the 1970's, the study of nucleon spin structure using polarized lepton beams and polarized nucleon targets has become increasingly important in nuclear and particle physics, with current experiments at several of the world's high energy laboratories (CERN, DESY and SLAC) and with enormous related theoretical studies. The understanding of the fascinating but complicated problem of nucleon spin structure has progressed substantially, but fundamental questions remain and it can be confidently predicted that future activity will be high. The Erice Course on The Spin Structure of the Nucleon covered both the experimental and theoretical aspects of the subject, and this volume includes the lectures given at the School. In many cases the lecture material has been extended and updated by the authors. In addition, several recent publications on experimental work have been added in an appendix.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essential introduction to particle physics, with coverage ranging from the basics through to the very latest developments, in an accessible and carefully structured text. Particle Physics: Third Edition is a revision of a highly regarded introduction to particle physics. In its two previous editions this book has proved to be an accessible and balanced introduction to modern particle physics, suitable for those students needed a more comprehensive introduction to the subject than provided by the ‘compendium’ style physics books. In the Third Edition the standard model of particle physics is carefully developed whilst unnecessary mathematical formalism is avoided where possible. Emphasis is placed on the interpretation of experimental data in terms of the basic properties of quarks and leptons. One of the major developments of the past decade has been the establishing of the existence of neutrino oscillations. This will have a profound effect on the plans of experimentalists. This latest edition brings the text fully up-to-date, and includes new sections on neutrino physics, as well as expanded coverage of detectors, such as the LHC detector. End of chapter problems with a full set of hints for their solutions provided at the end of the book. An accessible and carefully structured introduction to this demanding subject. Includes more advanced material in optional ‘starred’ sections. Coverage of the foundations of the subject, as well as the very latest developments.

We are very honored, that you, Governor of the Mugla-State, came here to greet us. We are particularly grateful to you that you offered help and assured us to do everything that we can enjoy two safe weeks in Bodrum, in this wonderful area of your country. I have chosen Bodrum as the place for our NASI because I like this historic region where many cultures meet (e. g. , Oriental and European (Greek, Roman) culture) and where you find numerous places which played a role in ancient science and in early Christianity- I mention Milet (Thales) and Ephesus (Apostle Paulus), both of which are close by. Our NASI will exhibit the most recent developments in high energy heavy ion physics. The meeting is both a school and a conference: A school, because there are very many advanced students, who frequently are themselves already top researchers, attending the lectures of distinguished scientists and leading researchers. It is also a conference because new material, new results of this exciting and wonderful field - our field - high energy heavy ion physics will be presented. It is the topic of hot and dense nuclear matter, which we are focusing on.

Book Introduction to the Standard Model and Beyond

Download or read book Introduction to the Standard Model and Beyond written by Stuart Raby and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-07-08 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Standard Model of particle physics is an amazingly successful theory describing the fundamental particles and forces of nature. This text, written for a two-semester graduate course on the Standard Model, develops a practical understanding of the theoretical concepts it's built upon, to prepare students to enter research. The author takes a historical approach to demonstrate to students the process of discovery which is often overlooked in other textbooks, presenting quantum field theory and symmetries as the necessary tools for describing and understanding the Standard Model. He develops these tools using a basic understanding of quantum mechanics and classical field theory, such as Maxwell's electrodynamics, before discussing the important role that Noether's theorem and conserved charges play in the theory. Worked examples feature throughout the text, while homework exercises are included for the first five parts, with solutions available online for instructors. Inspired by the author's own teaching experience, suggestions for independent research topics have been provided for the second-half of the course, which students can then present to the rest of the class.

Book Electroweak Processes in External Electromagnetic Fields

Download or read book Electroweak Processes in External Electromagnetic Fields written by Alexander Kuznetsov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-10-01 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of the intersection of particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology known as astroparticle physics. Extreme electromagnetic conditions present in puslars and other stars allow for investigations of the role of quantum processes in the dynamics of astrophysical objects and in the early Universe. Based in part on the authors' own work, this book systematically describes several methods of calculation of the effects of strong electromagnetic fields in quantum processes using analytical solutions of the Dirac equation and Feynmann diagrams at both the loop and tree levels. The consideration is emphasized at the two limiting cases: the case of a very strong magnetic field, and the case of a crossed field. The presentation will appeal to graduate students of theoretical physics with prior understanding of Quantum Field Theory (QFT) and the Standard Model of Electroweak Interactions, as well as specialists in QFT wishing to know more about the problems of quantum phenomena in external electomagnetic fields.
