Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about a little girl whose life has been strewn between the rocks and gravel that accumulated over a life time. It was the possibilities that kept her going. She grew up a loner even though she had a big family. She grew up in a Christian home and believed in God that no matter how inexplicable or unbelievable things can be, miracles are real and can occur without regards to the nature of things. Everyone she trusted would let her down and hurt her. She was between a rock and a hard place; she felt lonely, unwanted, and confused, as if she was in a dark room with no exit. Eventually, she met and fell in love with a handsome young man, the love of her lifeor so she thought. She was relieved, with more confidence; life was good, and it seems like there was a bright light at the end of the tunnel. For a moment, everything was going well, until dilemma stroke. The secrets she had to keep almost took her life because she could not share it. She had to put up with a lot of discomfort and even misery in her life that had been inflected by people she trusted, but somehow she felt she was to be blamed. She always knew in her heart and mind that God promised never to leave or forsake her.
Download or read book Lumbee Indian Girl written by Loretta Hunt Freeman and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BATTERED BUT NOT SHATTERED Rape, incest, alcoholism, addiction, mentally torture...the list could go on and on with ways that sin poisons our lives. Whether the sin is self- imposed or committed by someone else, it always has the power to cause us utter despair and a deep-seated sense of shame. Shame often convinces us we are irreparably damaged at our very core. The enemy wants us to believe this lie. God says that there is nothing about us that cannot be redeemed! God can bring absolute and total healing to the places where we bury our darkest, most shameful secrets. In our lives, storms come and go. Some storms come to take you down but some come to take you higher. The word God lets us know in the book of Mark chapter 4:37-39, that there was a great storm that arose. The wind was fierce and the waves were so ferocious that the boat which Jesus and His disciplines were in was full of water. This story tells us that Jesus was in the rear of the ship, asleep on a pillow. His disciples woke him up and asked him, "Don't you care if we perish, Master?" Jesus got up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea "Peace be still." When Jesus spoke to the storm, the wind ceased and there was great calm. This incident teaches us that despite the storms we face in life, when Jesus is in our boat (our lives), and we let Him speak to our storms, we may get battered but we will never be shattered. Loretta Hunt Freeman, a preacher, and teacher. Her obedience's is is to go wherever God leads to share his powerful word . Carson Samuel Freeman, Loretta 's husband is a great Guitarist.

Book excerpt: In 1995, Kentucky governor Brereton Jones granted parole to ten women who had been convicted of killing, conspiring to kill, or assaulting the men who had abused them for years. The media began referring to them as the "Sisters in Pain," a name they embraced. These are their stories. Linda Elisabeth Beattie and Mary Angela Shaughnessy's interviews of seven of the Sisters in Pain detail the physical, sexual, or psychological abuse they suffered at the hands of their husbands or boyfriends, battery beyond comprehension. Anyone who has ever asked, "Why don't they just leave?" will come to understand the interconnected strands of abuse that make just living through another day a personal triumph. Beattie and Shaughnessy address the pervasive nature of domestic violence in America and explore the legal ramifications of fighting back. Their interviews with the Sisters in Pain reveal the ways in which these women have picked up the pieces of their shattered lives and learned to face the future.

Download or read book Insult to Injury written by Linda G. Mills and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2009-01-10 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Locking up men who beat their partners sounds like a tremendous improvement over the days when men could hit women with impunity and women fearing for their lives could expect no help from authorities. But does our system of requiring the arrest, prosecution, and incarceration of abusers lessen domestic violence or help battered women? In this already controversial but vitally important book, we learn that the criminal justice system may actually be making the problem of domestic violence worse. Looking honestly at uncomfortable facts, Linda Mills makes the case for a complete overhaul and presents a promising alternative. The evidence turns up some surprising facts about the complexities of intimate abuse, facts that run against mainstream assumptions: The current system robs battered women of what power they do hold. Perhaps as many as half of women in abusive relationships stay in them for strong cultural, economic, religious, or emotional reasons. Jailing their partners often makes their situations worse. Women are at least as physically violent and emotionally aggressive as are men toward women, and women's aggression is often central to the dynamic of intimate abuse. Informed by compelling evidence, personal experience, and what abused women themselves say about their needs, Mills proposes no less than a fundamentally new system. Addressing the real dynamics of intimate abuse and incorporating proven methods of restorative justice, Mills's approach focuses on healing and transformation rather than shame or punishment. Already the subject of heated controversy, Insult to Injury offers a desperately needed and powerful means for using what we know to reduce violence in our homes.
