Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basil Valentine's Twelve Keys of alchemy is among the most notorious alchemical works ever crafted. Originally written at the very end of the 16th century, it was almost immediately rendered into English and widely regarded. Containing a series of parables and metaphors regarding the process of creating the Philosopher's Stone, the Twelve Keys claim that alchemy is both real and potent, able to perfect matter and create a medicinal elixir beyond comprehension. Valentine swears that the process is not as others have described, with often vague references to "special" salt and sulfur, but is far easier and much less expensive than claimed in prior works.

Book The Great Alchemical Work of Eirenaeus Philalethes Nicholas Flamel and Basil Valentine

Download or read book The Great Alchemical Work of Eirenaeus Philalethes Nicholas Flamel and Basil Valentine written by Rubellus Petrinus and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE GREAT ALCHEMICAL WORK is an important contribution to the study of alchemy. In the first English language edition of this 'little work, ' Portuguese alchemist Rubellus Petrinus presents a sincere and invaluable guide to the operative laboratory tradition that gave birth to the Art of Hermes and its vast literature. Taking as his starting point the classic works of three well-known Adepts - Eirenaeus Philalethes, Nicholas Flamel and Basil Valentine - Rubellus offers aspirants a clear explanation of these highly cryptic, often deliberately misleading, texts. According to Frater Parush (A.H.S.), in his preface, "... the interested student will find herein one of the best publications now available of the accurate and proper understanding of some important pieces of classic alchemical cypher. Rubellus removes a good portion of the veil from over the works of Flamel, Valentine and Philalethes concerning the Great Work, and thereby opens the door to a wider understanding of other related literature." Drawing upon his more than thirty years of discipline and experience, Rubellus generously shares his knowledge that has had "all that is superficial removed from it," and daringly exposes the facts of the secret processes of the Art. THE GREAT ALCHEMICAL WORK features full colour plates with photographs of alchemical processes, products and equipment, along with rare reproductions of early woodcut versions of Basil Valentine's famous Keys.

Book The Secrets of Alchemy

Download or read book The Secrets of Alchemy written by Lawrence Principe and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alchemy, the Noble Art, conjures up scenes of mysterious, dimly lit laboratories populated with bearded old men stirring cauldrons. Though the history of alchemy is intricately linked to the history of chemistry, alchemy has nonetheless often been dismissed as the realm of myth and magic, or fraud and pseudoscience. And while its themes and ideas persist in some expected and unexpected places, from the Philosopher's (or Sorcerer's) Stone of Harry Potter to the self-help mantra of transformation, there has not been a serious, accessible, and up-to-date look at the complete history and influence of alchemy until now.

Book The Triumphant Chariot of Antimony

Download or read book The Triumphant Chariot of Antimony written by Basil Valentine and published by . This book was released on 2013-01 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In alchemical symbolism Antimony is characterized as a lion (able to devour all metals except the royal Gold). The element itself has had a chequered past, being on occasion considered almost a panacea, and at other times condemned by both church and state. Basilius Valentinus is a shadowy 16th century figure, thought by some to have been Canon of the Benedictine Priory of Saint Peter in Erfurt, Germany. Some of his writings, such as 'The Twelve Philosophical Keys' are as obscure as the author's own origins, but this present work, 'The Triumphant Chariot of Antimony' is a far clearer exposition of Antimony's alchemical properties, intermixed with vibrant Gnosticism and not a little medical perceptiveness. The Annotations of Theodore Kirkringus, (who claims to have known the mysterious author), are equally illuminating. Regarded by many as the first monograph on a chemical element, 'The Triumphal Chariot of Antimony' is an important primary text for all those interested in the 'Royal Art' of Alchemy and the occult wellsprings of modern science.

Book excerpt: ‘To Ita Wegman, the Mysteries were a subject of abiding significance and one which played a major part in the relationship between herself and her teacher, Rudolf Steiner. Not only did he bestow upon her intimate revelations of Mysteries from a distant past but he also answered her request for a renewal of the Mysteries today.’ – from the Foreword ‘What is our anthroposophy other than a Mystery-knowledge bestowed on us anew by our teacher Rudolf Steiner?’– Ita Wegman This unique collection presents Ita Wegman’s principal writings and lectures on the Mysteries – both the Mysteries of the ancient world to which she felt personally connected, and the spiritual science of anthroposophy, which she saw as the contemporary form of Mystery wisdom. The volume begins with Ita Wegman’s firsthand account of Rudolf Steiner’s final days and hours on earth – written immediately after his death in 1925 – followed by several of her powerful letters ‘To All Members’ and their related ‘Leading Thoughts’. Various longer studies are featured, including her lecture ‘A Fragment from the History of the Mysteries’ – delivered at the opening of the second Goetheanum in 1928 – articles on Ephesus and the Colchian Mysteries, and personal impressions of Columba’s Iona, the island of Staffa (with its initiatory Fingal’s Cave), and Palestine, the land where Christ once walked the earth. These writings – several composed specifically for an English readership – bring us closer to the inner being of Ita Wegman, offering insight into her knowledge, vision and understanding of anthroposophy. Her stimulating ideas throw light on the transformation of the ancient Mysteries to anthroposophical knowledge and activity today.
