Book Fundamentals of Heat Exchanger Design

Download or read book Fundamentals of Heat Exchanger Design written by Dusan P. Sekulic and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2023-12-07 with total page 772 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Heat Exchanger Design, Second Edition builds upon the widely-used First Edition, a text often considered to be the most prominent single-volume heat exchanger text on the market. The new and improved Second Edition serves as an equally comprehensive resource, updated to suit the latest technologies and design methods being used in the Heat Exchanger field. Written by First-Edition author Dusan P. Sekulic, this text addresses the latest developments in the industry, including a brand-new chapter on the manufacturing of compact heat exchangers. After opening with a basic introduction to heat exchanger types and design methods, the book goes on to cover more specialized topics such as such as the design of recuperators and regenerators, pressure drop analysis, geometric properties, flow friction, fouling and corrosion, and more. With many significant revisions throughout, this new edition offers more streamlined content while maintaining the consistent, detailed coverage of the fundamentals of the topic that readers appreciated in the First Edition. These unique features position the Second Edition of Fundamentals of Heat Exchanger Design as the ideal text for both engineering professionals and advanced students alike.

Book Compact Heat Exchangers

Download or read book Compact Heat Exchangers written by J.E. Hesselgreaves and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-05-08 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the ideas and industrial concepts in compact heat exchanger technology that have been developed in the last 10 years or so. Historically, the development and application of compact heat exchangers and their surfaces has taken place in a piecemeal fashion in a number of rather unrelated areas, principally those of the automotive and prime mover, aerospace, cryogenic and refrigeration sectors. Much detailed technology, familiar in one sector, progressed only slowly over the boundary into another sector. This compartmentalisation was a feature both of the user industries themselves, and also of the supplier, or manufacturing industries. These barriers are now breaking down, with valuable cross-fertilisation taking place. One of the industrial sectors that is waking up to the challenges of compact heat exchangers is that broadly defined as the process sector. If there is a bias in the book, it is towards this sector. Here, in many cases, the technical challenges are severe, since high pressures and temperatures are often involved, and working fluids can be corrosive, reactive or toxic. The opportunities, however, are correspondingly high, since compacts can offer a combination of lower capital or installed cost, lower temperature differences (and hence running costs), and lower inventory. In some cases they give the opportunity for a radical re-think of the process design, by the introduction of process intensification (PI) concepts such as combining process elements in one unit. An example of this is reaction and heat exchange, which offers, among other advantages, significantly lower by-product production. To stimulate future research, the author includes coverage of hitherto neglected approaches, such as that of the Second Law (of Thermodynamics), pioneered by Bejan and co- workers. The justification for this is that there is increasing interest in life-cycle and sustainable approaches to industrial activity as a whole, often involving exergy (Second Law) analysis. Heat exchangers, being fundamental components of energy and process systems, are both savers and spenders of exergy, according to interpretation.

Book Experimental Determination of Heat Transfer and Flow Friction Characteristics for Several Plate Fin Type Compact Heat Exchanger Surfaces

Download or read book Experimental Determination of Heat Transfer and Flow Friction Characteristics for Several Plate Fin Type Compact Heat Exchanger Surfaces written by Stuart Franklin Ball (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this report, the heat transfer and isothermal flow friction characteristics for seven compact heat exchanger surfaces are presented and compared. Five of the surfaces were of a similar triangular fin configuration, differing in material and method of construction, and two of the surfaces, having been tested previously, were of a modified rectangular passage configuration. The modified rectangular passage surfaces showed better overall performance than the triangular fin surfaces, and matrices constructed from perforated material showed better overall performance than similar surfaces constructed from non-perforated material. For similar matric configurations, small variations in manufacturing procedure had little effect upon heat transfer and flow friction performance. The heat transfer data were obtained by means of the single-blow transient testing technique. A cylic method of transient testing was also investigated, and found to be both reliable and useful in that the additional method of testing extends the Reynolds number range for the experimental apparatus. Book Heat Transfer and Flow Friction Characteristics of Several Plate fin Type Compact Heat Exchanger Surfaces

Download or read book Heat Transfer and Flow Friction Characteristics of Several Plate fin Type Compact Heat Exchanger Surfaces written by Paul F. Pucci and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental results for the convective heat transfer and flow friction characteristics of plate-fin type heat transfer surfaces are presented for five surfaces. Four surfaces had a sinusoidal fin geometry. Two of these were fabricated of stainless steel, two of nickel. One of the nickel surfaces had perforated nickel fins. The fifth surface was fabricated of stainless steel and had a triangular fin geometry. The heat transfer data were obtained by the single-blow transient testing technique and by the cyclic testing technique. The two techniques compliment each other in extending the range of testing capability.

Book Two Phase Flow Heat Exchangers

Download or read book Two Phase Flow Heat Exchangers written by Sadik Kakaç and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1090 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-phase flow heat exchangers are vital components of systems for power generation, chemical processing, and thermal environment control. The art and science of the design of such heat exchangers have advanced considerably in recent years. This is due to better understanding of the fundamentals of two-phase flow and heat transfer in simple geometries, greater appreciation of these processes in complex goemetries, and enhanced predictive capability through use of complex computer codes. The subject is clearly of great fundamental and practical importance. The NATO ASIan Thermal-Hydraulic Fundamentals and Design of Two-Phase Flow Heat Exchangers was held in Povoa de Varzim (near Porto), Portugal, July 6-17, 1987. participating in the organization of" the ASI were the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Clean Energy Research Institute, University of Miami; Universidade do Porto; and the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Eng ineer ing, and Mechanics, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The ASI was arranged primarily as a high-level teaching activity by experts representing both academic and industrial viewpoints. The program included the presentation of invited lectures, a limited number of related technical papers and discussion sessions.

Book Experimental Evaluation of Several High Performance Surfaces for Compact Heat Exchangers

Download or read book Experimental Evaluation of Several High Performance Surfaces for Compact Heat Exchangers written by Charles H Piersall (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this report, the basic heat transfer and isothermal flow friction characteristics for five perforated Ni matrices, one perforated Ni fin with solid splitter matrix, and one solid Ni matrix, all of ''parallel plate'' configuration are presented. In addition, similar information is provided for a 20 degree skew matrix fabricated from perforated Ni. Finally, performance of two offset rectangular fin matrices constructed from stainless steel is evaluated. Where meaningful, a comparison of the performance of these surfaces is made. All matrices are investigated by the transient method of testing utilizing the maximum slope analysis of Locke and include the effects of longitudinal thermal conduction as reported by Howard.
