Book Baseline Water Quality Data Inventory and Analysis

Download or read book Baseline Water Quality Data Inventory and Analysis written by National Park Service and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Park Service's (NPS) Organic Act of 1916 states that the mission of the NPS is to promote and regulate the use of national parks, monuments, and other units "... to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and wildlife therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such a manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations." One task embodied by this mission is preserving and protecting water resources and water dependent environments in parks. Ensuring the integrity of park water quality, due to its importance in sustaining natural, aquatic park ecosystems and supporting human consumptive and recreational use, is fundamental to successfully addressing this task. The first step in ensuring the integrity of park water quality is defining historic and extant water quality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document presents the results of surface-water-quality data retrievals for Badlands National Park (BADL) from six of the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) national databases: (1) Storage and Retrieval (STORET) water quality database management system; (2) River Reach File (RF3); (3) Industrial Facilities Discharge (IFD); (4) Drinking Water Supplies (DRINKS); (5) Water Gages (GAGES); and (6) Water Impoundments (DAMS). This document is one product resulting from a cooperative contractual endeavor between the National Park Service's (NPS) Servicewide Inventory and Monitoring Program, the National Park Service's Water Resources Division (WRD), and Horizon Systems Corporation to retrieve, format, and analyze surface water quality data for all units of the National Park System containing significant water resources. The primary goal of the project is to provide descriptive water quality information in a manner and format that is both consistent with the goals of the Servicewide Inventory and Monitoring Program and useable by park resource managers. The document provides: (1) a complete inventory of all retrieved water quality parameter data, water quality stations, and the entities responsible for the data collection; (2) descriptive statistics and appropriate graphical plots of water quality data characterizing period of record, annual, and seasonal central tendencies and trends; (3) a comparison of the park's water quality data to relevant EPA and WRD water quality screening criteria; and (4) an Inventory Data Evaluation and Analysis (IDEA) to determine what Servicewide Inventory and Monitoring Program "Level I" water quality parameters have been measured within the study area. Accompanying the report are disks containing digital copies of all data used in the report, as well as all components of the report (tables, figures, etc.).

Book Statistical Aspects of Water Quality Monitoring

Download or read book Statistical Aspects of Water Quality Monitoring written by A.H. El-Shaarawi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-09-22 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains selected papers from the ``Workshop on the Statistical Aspects of Water Quality Monitoring'', held on October 7-10 1985, at the National Water Research Institute in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. The prime objective of the Workshop was to generate interaction between the statistical community and scientists working in the area of Water Quality Monitoring. To this end, topics covered in this Workshop fall into two categories: (1) Methods Development, and (2) the Imaginative Application of Existing Methodologies. Subjects covered include: Time Series, Estimation of Loading, Clustering, Model Development, Censoring Data Analysis, Quality Control and Data Acquisition. In the area of environmental sciences, statistical applications are still in their infancy, with few attempts to systematically develop techniques dealing with environmental issues. The publication of this book is one step towards identifying appropriate statistical techniques and diagnosing problems in Water Quality Monitoring which require new statistical methodologies. The papers presented in this volume represent international expertise, consolidating detailed information on both conventional and new methods.
