Taking only 20-30 minutes, test takers rate 50 simple statements and self-score items in five categories: personal and financial; emotional and physical; career decision-making and planning; job-seeking knowledge; and training and education. The BESI is laid out in a logical way with clear written instructions for test takers. Once the barriers to employment are clearly identified, the BESI suggests ways to overcome them and helps test takers complete an action plan. The plan can be used in group or individual career counseling to deal with problems that are often overlooked in traditional approaches.
