Download or read book A History of Baroque Music written by George J. Buelow and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2004-11-23 with total page 732 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A History of Baroque Music is a detailed treatment of the music of the Baroque era, with particular focus on the seventeenth century. The author's approach is a history of musical style with an emphasis on musical scores. The book is divided initially by time period into early and later Baroque (1600-1700 and 1700-1750 respectively), and secondarily by country and composer. An introductory chapter discusses stylistic continuity with the late Renaissance and examines the etymology of the term "Baroque." The concluding chapter on the composer Telemann addresses the stylistic shift that led to the end of the Baroque and the transition into the Classical period."--Jacket.
Download or read book The Secrets of the Classical Guitar written by Maestro Antonio Rodríguez Delgado and published by Editorial Alvi Books. This book was released on 2024-11-01 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a treatise that explains the methodological, technical, mechanical, and stylistic foundations for achieving a high-flying, competent performance on the classical guitar. Among the many aspects that are addressed, 12 philosophical foundations are developed from which the entire treatise flows like a cascade, then 22 principles of performance are explained that are applicable to both hands. There are 69 that are specific to the right hand and another 69 to the left. There are various chapters in which important aspects are discussed, such as nail filing, the philosophy that should prevail in the search for the most finished sound, and all the parameters that must be taken into account to achieve a perfect filing are analyzed, such as: type of nail, birth of this, shape of the tip, resistance, coefficient of friction, average growth, hardness, etc. I wrote another section to give the best suggestions on how to study, and how to distribute a work day by properly distributing the volume and the pieces with static training, to avoid injuries, and to achieve a greater benefit, in the same way I explain all the errors that we must avoid. I developed another chapter where I explain overtraining, something that has been well studied and diagnosed in sports, but that in instrumental exercise nothing had been written about. In this section I explain what it consists of, the physical and psychological consequences that it brings to the instrumentalist, how to detect this harmful process of degradation of the faculties of the instrumentalist musician, and how to get out of this anomaly. I teach fingering and explain the basic principles of how to carry out this process that is generally not taught in academies or conservatories. I develop a chapter in which I analyze how the Renaissance is played, from its articulation, phrasing, type of touch, and ornamentation, then I do the same with the Baroque period, the Classical, the Romantic, Impressionism, the first half of the 20th century, and the second half. And there is still much more, which leads me to express that this work marks a milestone in the instrumental literature written to date, not only about the guitar, but because of everything it deals with and covers, it will be a reference and consultation work not only for guitarists, but for anyone who intends to effectively master the art of playing their instrumental discipline.

Download or read book An English Medieval and Renaissance Song Book written by Noah Greenberg and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2000-01-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An elegant anthology. The specialist will not miss the quiet sophistication with which the music has been selected and prepared. Some of it is printed here for the first time, and much of it has been edited anew." "Notes" This treasury of 47 vocal works edited by Noah Greenberg, founder and former director of the New York Pro Musica Antiqua will delight all lovers of medieval and Renaissance music. Containing a wealth of both religious and secular music from the 12th to the 17th centuries, the collection covers a broad range of moods, from the hearty "Blow Thy Horne Thou Jolly Hunter" by William Cornysh to the reflective and elegiac "Cease Mine Eyes" by Thomas Morley. Of the religious works, nine were written for church services, including "Sanctus" by Henry IV and "Angus Dei" from a beautiful four-part mass by Thomas Tallis. Other religious songs in the collection come from England's rich tradition of popular religious lyric poetry, and include William Byrd's "Susanna Farye," the anonymously written "Deo Gracias Anglia" (The Agincort Carol), and Thomas Ravenscroft's "O Lord, Turne Now Away Thy Face" and "Remember O Thou Man." Approximately half of the songs are secular, some from the popular tradition and others from the courtly poets and musicians surrounding such musically inclined monarchs as Henry VIII who himself is represented in this collection with two charming songs, "With Owt Dyscorde" and "O My Hart." Among the notable composers of Tudor and Elizabethan England represented here are Orlando Gibbons, John Dowland, and Thomas Weelkes. "

Download or read book 20 Spanish Baroque Pieces by Gaspar Sanz Arranged for Uke written by Rob Mackillop and published by Mel Bay Publications. This book was released on 2015-10-13 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gaspar Sanz (1640 –1710) is the most famous baroque-period guitarist. His works are tuneful and memorable, with fiery cross-rhythms and cascading scale passages. He published three books of guitar music. The baroque guitar could be viewed as a close relative of the ukulele. Indeed, the two instruments have much in common. the smaller four-course guitar actually had the same tuning as the ukulele, for example, although it was largely double-strung.Sanz enjoyed playing scales in the campanella style, with the notes of a scale set out on different strings, sonically overlapping slightly in the style of little bells. This is a technique the ukulele excels at, and is used to good effect in these arrangements.Sanz' music for baroque guitar transfers exceptionally well to the uke, as these arrangements demonstrate. It is hoped that this repertoire will bring a refreshing addition to the repertoire of the ukulele, just as the little instrument can bring a freshness to these old but lively pieces.
