Book Digital Transformation and the Economics of Banking

Download or read book Digital Transformation and the Economics of Banking written by Piotr Łasak and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-11-07 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book provides deep insight into the processes of digital transformation of banking according to economic, institutional, and social dimensions. Together with the transformation of incumbent banks, the processes result in changes in the scope of existing banking services. Moreover, new entities (FinTech firms) partner with incumbent banks and reshape the banking sector and its financial environment. The far-reaching transformation of banks and the banking sectors is accompanied by some institutional and socioeconomic processes. Regarding institutional processes, the book provides insight into the digitalization of the banking sector from a legal point of view. Traditionally, banking is strongly regulated by norms and rules and this status should be maintained when new entities are entering the sector and/or when new technological solutions contribute to the provision of banking services. Regarding socioeconomic processes, it must be highlighted that digitalization is exerting a powerful impact on societies. One significant example, among others, is the increase in the financial inclusion of disadvantaged groups (especially customers either underserved by the traditional financial sector or unbanked). The socioeconomic aspect, however, has a much greater dimension and its selected aspects are described in this book. The principal audience of the book will be scholars in the fields of banking and finance, but also other related disciplines in the social sciences that are of particular relevance to the banking sector’s digital transformation. This includes legal science, management, and psychology. The book also targets professionals in the financial industry interested in the impact of new financial technologies on banking sectors and bank services, particularly with a main focus on legal and socioeconomic dimensions.

Book Fintech and the Future of Finance

Download or read book Fintech and the Future of Finance written by Erik Feyen and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2023-04-03 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fintech—the application of digital technology to financial services—is reshaping the future of finance. Digital technologies are revolutionizing payments, lending, investment, insurance, and other financial products and services—and the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated this process. Digitalization of financial services and money is helping to bridge gaps in access to financial services for households and firms and is promoting economic development. Improved access to basic financial services translates into better firm productivity and growth for micro and small businesses, as well as higher incomes and resilience to improve the lives of the poor. Technology can lower transaction costs by overcoming geographical access barriers; increasing the speed, security, and transparency of transactions; and allowing for more tailored financial services that better serve consumers, including the poor. Women can especially benefit. Yet too many people and firms still lack access to essential financial services that could help them thrive. It is time for policy makers to embrace fintech opportunities and implement policies that enable and encourage safe financial innovation and adoption. Fintech and the Future of Finance: Market and Policy Implications explores the implications of fintech and the digital transformation of financial services for market outcomes, on the one hand, and regulation and supervision, on the other hand—and how these interact. The report, which provides a high-level perspective for senior policy makers, is accompanied by notes that focus on salient issues for a more technical audience. As the financial sector continues to transform itself, policy trade-offs will evolve, and regulators will need to ensure that market outcomes remain aligned with core policy objectives. Several policy implications emerge. 1. Manage risks, while fostering beneficial innovation and competition. 2. Broaden monitoring horizons and reassess regulatory perimeters. 3. Review regulatory, supervisory, and oversight frameworks. 4. Be mindful of evolving policy trade-offs as fintech adoption deepens. 5. Monitor market structure and conduct to maintain competition. 6. Modernize and open financial infrastructures. 7. Ensure public money remains fit for the digital world. 8. Pursue strong cross-border coordination and sharing of information and best practices.

Book Stay Competitive in the Digital Age The Future of Banks

Download or read book Stay Competitive in the Digital Age The Future of Banks written by MissEstelle X Liu and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2021-02-19 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest advancement in financial technology has posed unprecedented challenges for incumbent banks. This paper analyzes the implications of these challenges on bank competitveness, and explores the factors that could support digital advancement in banks. The analysis shows that the traditionally leading role of banks in advancing financial technology has diminished in recent years, and suggests that onoing efforts to catch up to the digital frontier could lead to a more concentrated banking industry, as smaller and less tech-savvy banks struggle to survive. Cross-country evidence has suggested that banks in high-income economies appear to have been the digital leaders, likely benefiting from a sound digital infrastructure, a strong legal and business environment, and healthy competition. Nonetheless, some digital leaders may fall behind in the coming years in adopting newer technologies due to entrenched consumer behavior favoring older technologies, less active fintech and bigtech companies, and weak bank balance sheets.

Download or read book Innovation in Banking written by Ulrich Sprenzel and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-02-08 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: 1.3, Technical University of Munich (School of Management), course: Innovation and Business Creation, language: English, abstract: The impact of the financial crisis was a challenge for international and German banks and a test for the robustness of their business models. The consequences were stricter financial regulations introduced by Basel III and banks were forced to reduce proprietary trading and to refocus on traditional core banking business. Today supervisory authorities require sufficient and appropriate risk management systems to ensure financial stability and thus the internal operational complexity has increased and generates additional costs. In the aftermath of the financial crisis some banks are still struggling to regain competitiveness in combination with diminishing margins. In recent years financial technology companies, commonly known as FinTech, gained more importance in the financial industry and challenge banks and established business models. Digitisation is advancing in all industries and the music and media industry has already experienced a painful transformation process and a similar development is expected as well for the financial industry. Depending on how revolutionary the technological innovation is the more intense will be the impact on business models and in consequence fast adaptability is essential. The level of activity within FinTech is enormous at the moment in Germany and over one hundred new companies were launched in 2014. As a consequence digital business models are analysed with respect to core competences and how FinTech generates benefits for customers by improving the value with innovative digital solutions.

Book Influence of FinTech on Management Transformation

Download or read book Influence of FinTech on Management Transformation written by Sghari, Amira and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-11-27 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital financial services are starting to become increasingly popular with consumers, thereby fostering a favorable climate for digital entrepreneurship: mobile payment, Blockchain, etc. Research trying to understand and explain this phenomenon focuses on FinTech. Some scholars regard “FinTech” as financial innovations that upset the market while others view them as startups, based on financial innovations, that have changed the ecosystem. There are many open-ended questions about FinTech’s business models, how it relates to blockchain, and whether this is a collaborative relationship between traditional financial players or a competitive relationship. Noting the lack of research work on these themes, this book attempts to shed light on this area to bridge the gap between the discourse of practitioners and the literature. Influence of FinTech on Management Transformation is an innovative reference book that defines FinTech and its ecosystem as well as concepts in relation to management transformations caused by FinTech and shares new theoretical and empirical frameworks, useful experiences, and best practices to deal with new technological changes. The chapters are divided into three interrelated sections: “Insights From the Blockchain Technology”; “Managerial and Cultural Transformations in the Era of FinTech”; and “Empirical Experiences and Applications.” This book is a valuable reference tool for financial planners/advisors, managers, accountants, financial analysts, compliance experts, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students interested in the influence of FinTech on management transformation.
