Book A Dictionary of Jewish Babylonian Aramaic of the Talmudic and Geonic Periods

Download or read book A Dictionary of Jewish Babylonian Aramaic of the Talmudic and Geonic Periods written by Michael Sokoloff and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 1610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first new dictionary of Jewish Babylonian Aramaic in a century, this towering scholarly achievement provides a complete lexicon of the entire vocabulary used in both literary and epigraphic sources from the Jewish community in Babylon from the third century C.E. to the twelfth century. Author Michael Sokoloff's primary source is, of course, the Babylonian Talmud, one of the most important and influential works in Jewish literature. Unlike the authors of previous dictionaries of this dialect, however, he also uses a variety of other sources, from inscriptions and legal documents to other rabbinical literature. A Dictionary of Jewish Babylonian Aramaic also differs from earlier lexographic efforts in its focus on a single dialect. Previous dictionaries have been composite works containing various Aramaic dialects from different periods, blurring distinctions in meaning and nuance. Sokoloff has been able to draw on the most current linguistic and textual scholarship to ensure the complete accuracy of his lexical entries, each of which is divided into six parts: lemma or root, part of speech, English gloss, etymology, semantic features, and bibliographic references. Another important feature in this invaluable reference work is its index of all cited passages, which allows the reader of a given text to easily find the semantics of a particular word. In addition to linguists and specialists in Jewish Aramaic literature, lay readers and students will also find this comprehensive, up-to-date dictionary useful for understanding the Babylonian Talmud.

Book The Swindoll Study Bible NLT

Download or read book The Swindoll Study Bible NLT written by Tyndale and published by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-09 with total page 1984 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2018 Christian Book Award for Bible of the Year. The Swindoll Study Bible offers the best of Chuck Swindoll's wit, charm, pastoral insight, and wise biblical study directly to you as you study God's Word. Chuck's warm, personal style comes across on every page, and his informed, practical insights get straight to the heart of the Bible's message for the world today. Reading each part of this study Bible is like hearing Chuck speak God's Word directly to your heart. It will both encourage readers' faith and draw them deeper into the study of God's Word. In Chuck's own words: "This study Bible was designed with you in mind. As you read the Scriptures, imagine my sitting beside you and sharing personal stories, important insights, and hard-earned lessons that will encourage you to walk more closely with Jesus Christ. You'll discover the who, what, where, when, why, and how of the Bible: Who wrote it and when? What does it mean, and where did its events occur? Why should I trust it? And most importantly, how can I apply it today? "It's that last question more than any other that has fed my passion to publish this Bible. My primary focus in ministry has been teaching biblical insight for living . . . for genuine life change. After all, that's why God has communicated His Word to us--so that we may become like His Son, Jesus Christ, the central figure of this Book." Free app with purchase! Book Mystery Babylon the Great er London

Download or read book Mystery Babylon the Great er London written by Barry Gumm and published by Cornerstone Targeting. This book was released on 2017-05-01 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work Barry Gumm has focused on Biblical numerology, Astronomy and traditional astrology science. He focuses on specific chapters in the Book of Revelation. In his work he uses the above methods to define the future date of the end of the age. As an evangelical theologian I acknowledge the Bible places significance on numbers (7 - perfection, 10 -complete, 40 – in all directions (North, South, East and West – High, Deep, Wide and Long) complete). Much has been written about the truth there are no numbers in the Hebrew and Greek character set _ that context determines if a character is a letter or a number. A well known example is the Greek word for Our Lord Jesus (6k. iasou - - 1 - 10, a - 8, 5 – 200, 0 -70, u – 400) 5 – 200 = 888). The Bible uses numbers for perfection, completeness, unity, divisions as mentioned. Astronomy has been noted the alignment of planets in our solar system and the effect of star definition on human condition, affairs and relationships. Barry’s work clearly defines his concept and calculation on end times. We know from the Holy Scripture we are in the end times - especially when it is evident that attitudes to our Christian civilization, heritage and way of life are being disestablished (Romans 1:18-32); 1 Timothy 6:3-10; 2 Timothy 3:1-9; 2 Peter 2:1-22; 3:1-10). Barry has spent a great deal of his work examining the evils of the love of money mentioned in the above references.

Book By the Waters of Babylon

  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2014-07-22
  • ISBN : 1625649274
  • Pages : 269 pages

Download or read book By the Waters of Babylon written by Benjamin W. Farley and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-07-22 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Psalms have long been the preferred prayer book of souls in quest of God's guidance and comfort. It has been a hymnbook for the soul and a trove for canticles and verses of the heart. The Psalms have served both Judaism and Christianity's religious communities as a favored source of rich and magnificent readings perfect for liturgical settings. Most significantly, they have nurtured the soul in its desperate times of brokenness and longing for God. This is true of both religions and of their various branches across the years. For that reason, the Psalter ranks among the noblest of spiritual masterpieces, cherished for its eloquent and poignant prayers that lift the heart to God even as they bring God down to mend the soul. We need such times of private and communal withdrawal into the sphere where God alone reins. Solitariness with God heals the heart's wounds, individually and communally. Alone with God, God sees us as we are and allows us to acknowledge ourselves as we are--at our best and worst, in our joy and folly. The Psalms remind us that God is inescapably present wherever we allow God in to renew, inspire, redeem, and fulfill the highest hopes of our human capacity. By the Waters of Babylon provides meditations on all 150 of the Psalter's hymns. They are written to speak to the heart as well as to the mind and soul in search of grace and consolation.
