Book Migraines and Dreams

Download or read book Migraines and Dreams written by Altan Loker and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The method of scientific investigation used in this book and explained in its first chapter is the method described by Isaac Newton in his book The Principia, which is continually used by him and all other physicists but not by psychologists. The great truth exposed by using this method to understand migraine is that the head pain and the associated symptoms are automatic responses created by evolution and controlled unconsciously to realize self-protection and survival. This fact is also derived from Freud's and Jung's works by using Newton's method. It is also shown that the results of research on the physiological processes that are related to the production of headache do not make the above etiology impossible but rather suggest it. A migraineur has a problem that harms his/her interests seriously, but he/she does not deal with it adequately for various reasons and represses it in some measure. His/her unconscious produces symptoms that carry analogic messages urging him/her to resolve that problem and also punish him/her for not doing that. Sometimes a symptom is so timely and intense that it prevents a self-harming action. Thus, headache means: "Get wise; stop making that mistake; stop hurting yourself!" Eye pain means: "Don't ignore the events that hurt you!" Nausea and vomiting mean: "Don't tolerate ugly events!" The other symptoms too carry self-protective messages related to the patient's life experiences. Psychotherapy consists of making a patient consciously understand and deal adequately with the problem that his/her unconscious wishes him/her to resolve so that the symptoms become unneeded as message carriers. Evidently, this method necessitates cooperation with the unconscious, whereas all existing therapies combat its products, i.e., the symptoms, and thereby make the symptoms all the more needed. A migraineur can do this work with or without the help of a therapist who is familiar with this method. Dreams too are automatic responses that serve to realize self-protection and survival and carry more diagnostic and therapeutic information and ideas compared to symptoms. Also, dreams can be induced that deal with consciously chosen issues. Therefore symptoms and dreams are interpreted together, as explained in this book. This theory predicts a patients' relevant life experiences in general terms, facilitates the discovery of their particulars, explains the causes, meanings, and functions of his/her symptoms and dreams, and realizes very fast and definitive cures. More than 120 headache and facial pain sufferers have been cured in very short times using this method, as illustrated by 50 original case histories This book is published for the use of headache patients and their therapists and contains the relevant chapters of my earlier book COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL CYBERNETICS OF SYMPTOMS, DREAMS, LATERALIZATION: THEORY, INTERPRETATION, THERAPY. This earlier book exposes the adaptive and self-protective functions of the most conspicuous automatic responses such as pain, fear, anxiety, repression, all symptoms of primary mental disorders, response to stage and screen plays, laughter and tears, structural responses such as cerebral lateralization, and so forth. The fact that all those phenomena can be explained, predicted, and controlled on the basis of the same principles proves that those principles reflect the truth.

Book Race Language and Subjectivation

Download or read book Race Language and Subjectivation written by Liesa Rühlmann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-10-28 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many school students in Germany are plurilingual and use German and further languages in their daily lives. This use is differently approached and valued. Not only languages spoken, but race, too, plays a role in how language use is addressed in schools. Interviews that were conducted and analyzed with a Grounded Theory approach show that subject positions assigned to students concerning plurilingualism shape how they reflect on experiences in school from a retrospective focus. By turning to a raciolinguistic perspective and drawing on subjectivation theory, the terms used to signify dominantly found re-positionings are ‘raciolinguistic norm’ and ‘raciolinguistic Other’. The results highlight the necessity of focusing in more detail on how listening positionalities shape language use in society and in schools specifically.

The man, as well as his clothes, were pale white from top to the bottom. The only make up applied on his mouth, nose and around his eyes were tend to be dark gray, and partly black. His eyes were dull and his gaze was fixed, his mouth curled up with a dry smile and he was waiting for being sure that Suzan had seen him. A ghost? An alien? This vision wasnt the only one she was going to face in the Topkapi Palace. A big nothing followed after the declarations of the media that Noahs Ark had been found in Turkey, as it had never been announced. The ark was found and, with it, a much more mysterious and important note signed with God. The note was pointing to the Palace, where His last warning been hidden. The many foreign agents now placed in the Palace with domestic traitorous cooperation made Suzan believe in no one. When this task become too complicated to handle it alone, she was forced to work with few people inside and outside, including Thomas, whom she knew as the most dangerous nemesis agent, starting from the very first day. Book Architectural Regeneration

Download or read book Architectural Regeneration written by Aylin Orbasli and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-08-03 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive and detailed overview of the active regeneration, rehabilitation and revitalisation of architectural heritage. The combined processes of globalisation, urbanisation, environmental change, population growth and rapid technological development have resulted in an increasingly complex, dynamic and interrelated world, in which concerns about the meaning of cultural heritage and identity continue to grow. As the need for culturally and environmentally sustainable design grows, the challenge for professionals involved in the management of inherited built environments is to respond to this ever-changing context in a critical, dynamic and creative way. Our knowledge and understanding of the principles, approaches and methods to sustainably adapt existing buildings and places is rapidly expanding. Architectural Regeneration contributes to this knowledge-base through a holistic approach that links policy with practice and establishes a theoretical framework within which to understand architectural regeneration. It includes extensive case studies of the regeneration, rehabilitation and revitalisation of architectural heritage from around the world. Different scales and contexts of architectural regeneration are discussed, including urban, suburban, rural and temporary. At a time when regeneration policy has shifted to the recognition that ‘heritage matters’ and that the historic environment and creative industries are a vital driver of regeneration, an increasing workload of architectural practices concerns the refurbishment, adaptive re-use or extension of existing buildings. As a result, this book is ideal for undergraduate and graduate students of architecture, historic conservation, urban and environmental design, sustainability, and urban regeneration, as well as for practitioners and decision makers working in those fields.

Book Sensations of Art making Triumphs Torments and Risk taking

Download or read book Sensations of Art making Triumphs Torments and Risk taking written by Purnima Ruanglertbutr and published by The Melbourne Graduate School of Education. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sensations of Art-making: Triumphs, Torments and Risk-taking is an exhibition curated by Purnima Ruanglertbutr that documents the collection of works by professional artist-teachers, who are graduates of Melbourne University’s Master of Teaching (Secondary Art) program. The works in this show demand attention by illustrating with sensitivity the triumphs, torments and risk-taking inherent to professional artistic practice. Each of these artists is treading the difficult pathway of moving into the world of teaching while retaining their artist identity. For some, this transition into the classroom is still to come. For others they are one, two or even three years into lesson planning, staff meetings, sports days and report writing. Theirs is the reality of conflict between their art production and being a teacher - two seemingly incompatible worlds. Through participation in this exhibition, they are beginning to fashion a mechanism for keeping alive their passion for art, while also nurturing a career teaching art to the next generation. This exhibition catalogue documents the work of early-career visual art educators and insightful commentaries by the artist teachers themselves - these are artworks produced during those critical first years after teacher training. Some exhibits explicitly address the role of art making within the teaching process. Others purposefully avoid issues to do with the classroom by illustrating the artists’ ongoing development of a private professional practice. Either way, these are critical pieces of information in the elusive phenomenon of the ‘artist-teacher’.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Praise for Esmahan Aykol: "Kati could be the love child of Miss Marple and NPR's Andrei Codrescu. It doesn't matter who done it. What matters is that Aykol uses the genre to tell us more about the world than we're used to."—Newsday "An offbeat amateur sleuth with a distinctive narrative voice. Fans of Amanda Cross's Kate Fansler and Kerry Greenwood's Phryne Fisher will find a lot to like."—Publishers Weekly Kati owns Istanbul's only mystery book store and, as usual, gets involved in a case that is none of her business. Every day, a beautiful woman lunches alone in the restaurant next to the bookstore. When the woman is found dead in her apartment, Kati immediately recognizes the stranger from the restaurant in images in the newspaper photos. Although the police believe it was an accident, Kati suspects something more sinister has happened. Sani Ankaraligil was an attractive young woman and a politically active ecologist in the middle of a divorce from her wealthy husband. So who would benefit from her death? The industrial companies Sani had accused of polluting the rivers of western Turkey, or her jealous husband seeking revenge through an honor killing, or a Thracian separatist group? The investigation pulls Kati into murkier waters: the marriage may have been a sham, designed to cover up Sani's husband's homosexuality . . . the role of her mother-in-law goes from distasteful to outright criminal.
