Book The Good Old Days

Download or read book The Good Old Days written by Harold Flagg and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014-02-06 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1999, I flew from Fort Lauderdale, FL, to Japan for $28.39 round-trip. Previously, a round-trip from Fort Lauderdale to Turkey cost me $17 and change. On the Turkish flight, a computer glitch wiped out my documentation shortly after I landed in Frankfurt, Germany. To compensate, Delta Air Lines upgraded me to BusinessElite class, featuring free champagne and choice of filet mignon or salmon steak served on a cozy table set with sparkling crystal and the finest silver and china. Most of my caviar lifestyle on a tuna budget has been based on United States Social Security and Bahamas National Insurance payments, having worked many years in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Whats the catch? Basically, it was playing the discount-fare and frequent-flier game to the Nth degree, N as in nothing, in many cases. My best free junkets in senior-friendly skies came via Delta Air Lines frequent flier mileage. My Delta SkyMiles were tallied by such senior-citizen bargains as a Fort Lauderdale- Hawaii round-trip ticket for as little as $440. That alone added some 10,000 FF miles to my account. Signing for a Delta SkyMiles credit card netted 10,000 miles; a switch to MCI telephone service scored another 5,000 or so. An MCI WorldCom/SkyMiles long-distance card is good for five 10 HAROLD FLAGG miles per dollar spent. There is at least one case where a motormouth literally talked his way into a free trip! Investors can rack up major mileage via Delta

Book Volume Two Ladies of Gold

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second of three volumes, Ladies of Gold: The Remarkable Ministry of the Golden Candlestick continues the comprehensive presentation of the visions of the King of Kings experienced by Frances Metcalfe and the other members of the Golden Candlestick. This fellowship of Christians attuned to the guidance of the Holy Spirit shared these visions with others, communicating the essence of their moments of rapture when they were translated into the heavenly realms. James Maloney, a leader in developing ministers and supporting overseas crusades, has compiled and presented a comprehensive collection of the recorded utterances flowing from the people of the Golden Candlestick. This collection presents eight visions and a miscellany of excerpts that give a taste of the riches recorded in journals, missionaries notes, and newsletters. The Spirit spoke to the members of the fellowship of believers in the Golden Candlestick for more than fifty years. If you are curious about how their visions might touch your own life, if you desire to know more about Gods work in the world, or if you are a student of religious experience, then Ladies of Gold: The Remarkable Ministry of the Golden Candlestick will reward you for your attention.

Book Every Day s a Good Day

Download or read book Every Day s a Good Day written by William Pike and published by Puffin Books. This book was released on 2008 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Pike, a 22-year-old school teacher from Auckland, came to the attention of the nation on 25 September 2007 when, while tramping on Mt Ruapehu, he was critically injured during a volcanic eruption. William was trapped inside the hut, surrounded by mud and rocks and in freezing temperatures, while his friend went for help. When the rescue team arrived he was suffering from such severe hypothermia he was not expected to survive. Defying the odds, William then spent two months in Waikato Hospital, at first fighting for his life as his kidneys and liver shut down, and then in slow, steady recovery. But, despite having had his lower right leg amputated, just barely keeping his left leg and facing yet more reconstruction surgery, William is philosophical about his life-altering injuries. He is determined to return to Mt Ruapehu within the next year to complete the six-day tramp that was cut short by the eruption. William Pike's inspirational story begins with his trip to Nepal at the age of 12, which awakened his interest in outdoor pursuits of all kinds, and continues through his teens and early twenties as a mad-keen trampler, climber, surf-lifesaver and diver. William then retells his miraculous survival tale and reveals his plans for the future with infectious optimism and an approach to life that has remained intact - Every Day's A Good Day. Book Robert Frank

  • Author : Robert Frank
  • Publisher : Steidl
  • Release : 2019-04-23
  • ISBN : 9783958295506
  • Pages : 64 pages

Download or read book Robert Frank written by Robert Frank and published by Steidl. This book was released on 2019-04-23 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this, Robert Frank's newest book, he both acknowledges and moves beyond his acclaimed visual diaries (2010-17), which juxtapose iconic photos from throughout his career with the more personal pictures he makes today and suggestive, often autobiographical text fragments. In Good days quiet Frank's focus is life inside and outside his beloved weather-beaten wooden house in Mabou, where he has spent summers for decades with his wife June Leaf. Among portraits of Leaf, Allen Ginsberg and Frank's son are images of the house's simple interior with its wood-fueled iron stove, humble furniture and bare light bulbs, and views of the land and sea by the house: snow-covered, windswept, stormy or lit by the dying sun. Frank's Polaroid prints show various deliberate states of deterioration and manipulation at his hands, including texts that move from the merely descriptive ("watching the crows") to the emotive ("memories," "grey sea--old house / can you hear the music"). As always in Frank's books, his message lies primarily in the photos' lyrical sequence, an influential approach to the photobook pioneered by and today well at home in his 94-year-old hands. Robert Frank was born in Zurich in 1924 and immigrated to the United States in 1947. He is best known for his seminal book The Americans, first published in English in 1959, which gave rise to a distinctly new form of the photobook, and his experimental film Pull My Daisy (1959). Frank's other important projects include the books Black White and Things (1954), The Lines of My Hand (1972) and the film Cocksucker Blues for the Rolling Stones (1972). He divides his time between New York City and Nova Scotia, Canada.
