Instead of pursuing traditional health care, she researched alternative methods and found North America's best and longest practicing Oriental Medicine physicians. During an acupuncture session with him, her life dramatically changed. As soon as he closed the door behind him, I became aware of my Guides in the room. I didn ́t really see them; I felt their presence. And a sense of urgency in the air. Then they spoke. "We can cure you quickly if you make a promise to us." Thus began a series of conversations that showed Mary how to walk through the nightmare of cancer and out the other side.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Enduring Cancer Dwaipayan Banerjee explores the efforts of Delhi's urban poor to create a livable life with cancer as patients and families negotiate an overextended health system unequipped to respond to the disease. Owing to long wait times, most urban poor cancer patients do not receive a diagnosis until it is too late to treat the disease effectively. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in the city's largest cancer care NGO and at India's premier public health hospital, Banerjee describes how, for these patients, a cancer diagnosis is often the latest and most serious in a long series of infrastructural failures. In the wake of these failures, Banerjee tracks how the disease then distributes itself across networks of social relations, testing these networks for strength and vulnerability. Banerjee demonstrates how living with and alongside cancer is to be newly awakened to the fragility of social ties, some already made brittle by past histories, and others that are retested for their capacity to support.

Book Cancer Is a Gift

  • Author : Yvette Boven

Download or read book Cancer Is a Gift written by Yvette Boven and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nowadays one out of three people get cancer. This means that nearly everyone will be confronted with this disease directly or indirectly. For most people this is a real nightmare. But there are also people who say that cancer was the best thing ever happened to them. One disease, two totally different perceptions. How is this possible? In 2000 just after the birth of her fourth daughter Yvette van Boven received the message nobody wants to hear: "You have cancer!" A life changing and paradigm shattering experience. Her cancer, life-changing experiences, and recovery set her on a quest that led her to research many stories of cancer patients who died and stories of cancer patients who survived their cancer. She was especially interested in the seemingly 'incurable' terminal cancer patients, who were send home by their doctors to die, but are still alive today. During the time she had cancer her life changed completely when she discovered that she was not the victim of her cancer but of her lack of consciousness and her limited thoughts and beliefs. In fact that she was the creator of her life. She knew that if this was true it meant that somehow she had created her cancer - a thought she did not like at all - but it also meant that it would be possible to turn her situation around and become the creator of her health, so she did ... At the lowest point of her life when she believed she would die soon, Yvette found the key to unlock the door of her cancer prison. She was shown that LOVE was the way to set herself free. Instead of fighting her cancer she started to embrace and love her cancer and started to look at the benefits and the gifts. This way she was able to find back her inner strength, which transformed her from being a powerless victim and a people pleaser, believing that whatever she did was never good enough, into the powerful and thriving woman she is today. "Cancer is a Gift is quite simply the most empowering book about cancer that I have ever read. It illuminates the truth with a capital T. My hope is that everyone diagnosed with or afraid of cancer finds the courage to read-and live-the message of this book. Bravo!" - Christiane Northrup "This book shares what I have learned over the years. There is survival behavior and you can learn from survivors about what helps them to exceed expectations and induce self-healing. When we are willing to ask not Why Me? But what can I do with it? Our lives and bodies respond to the message and indeed all the side effects of cancer are not bad. Many people will tell you it was a wake-up call and new beginning. So read on and rebirth yourselves." - Bernie Siegel "The capacity to see cancer as a challenge, a quest, and a journey toward a deeper affirmation of life, love, and all that matters is, indeed, a gift. It is a gift Yvette gave herself, and a gift she gives to all who read this book. Yvette, your message is profound, compelling, and evocative. I applaud your work, and celebrate your recovery." - David L. Katz "This wonderful book will give you the inspiration and determination to deal with and even overcome your cancer." - Brian Tracy "A wake-up call to all of us, not just for anyone with cancer. Read it. Give it to everyone you know. The message will get all of us through any dark night of the soul." - Dr. Joe Vitale "Yvette is a person with tremendous courage and talent. Read what she writes, listen to what she says, and do what she suggests." - John Harricharan "This is a beautiful and encouraging book. I wish my mom had the opportunity to read this before her terminal diagnosis of brain cancer. We might be celebrating her recovery instead of remembering her untimely passing. I highly recommend it" - Colette Baron-Reid "It's not always easy to find the 'Gift' in every moment, especially when the gift is cancer. Yvette has done just that in an inspiring, uplifting and, for all who enjoy the read, life-changing way" - Janet Bray Attwood

Book excerpt: Living Time is at once a personal odyssey, an intimate doctor-patient communication, and a prescriptive guide for patients and their families. Writing with wit and humility, Dr. Bernadine Healy shares the hard-won insights that transformed her own struggle with a deadly cancer more than seven years ago, affirming her identity as patient and doctor with the many who share this journey. Together with more than ten million survivors in the United States alone, Dr. Healy, former director of the National Institutes of Health, is a close witness to the medical advances that have brought us to a turning point in the war on cancer. This quiet revolution is curing a growing number of cancers and transforming many others from a death sentence to a chronic illness, one that calls for vigilance but not despair. Beginning with her own compelling story, Dr. Healy interweaves it with one of the most lucid narratives ever written of what cancer is, how it works in our bodies, and how we can defeat it. She explains how genetic research and other new approaches are radically altering diagnosis and treatment, and she offers precise and empowering ways for patients and their families to access the information and support they need to secure the best in modern cancer care. She also underlines the urgency of accelerating the pace of research that could map out and destroy cancer in the twenty-first century. Dr. Healy is forthright about the rigors of treatment and the toll cancer still takes, but readers will come away from her book with the information, resources, and heartfelt encouragement they need to look forward to a future with hope. "From the Hardcover edition."
