Book Automatic Methods for the Refinement of System Models

Download or read book Automatic Methods for the Refinement of System Models written by Julia Seiter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-04 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of automatic model refinement, which helps readers close the gap between initial textual specification and its desired implementation. The authors enable readers to follow two “directions” for refinement: Vertical refinement, for adding detail and precision to single description for a given model and Horizontal refinement, which considers several views on one level of abstraction, refining the system specification by dedicated descriptions for structure or behavior. The discussion includes several methods which support designers of electronic systems in this refinement process, including verification methods to check automatically whether a refinement has been conducted as intended.

Book Abstraction Refinement for Large Scale Model Checking

Download or read book Abstraction Refinement for Large Scale Model Checking written by Chao Wang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-09-15 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes recent research on abstraction techniques for model checking large digital system. Considering the size of today's digital systems and the capacity of state-of-the-art verification algorithms, abstraction is the only viable solution for the successful application of model checking techniques to industrial-scale designs. The suite of algorithms presented here represents significant improvement over prior art; some have already been adopted by the EDA companies in their commercial/in-house verification tools.

Book Formal Methods for Components and Objects

Download or read book Formal Methods for Components and Objects written by Frank S. de Boer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2010-11-11 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All modern industries rely on large and complex software systems. In order to construct such large systems in a systematic manner, the focus of the development methodologies has switched in the last two decades from functional to structural issues. Formal methods have been applied successfully to the verification of medium-sized programs in protocol and hardware design. However, their application to the development of large systems requires a greater emphasis on specification, modeling, and validation techniques supporting the concepts of reusability and modifiability, and their implementation in new extensions of existing programming languages like Java. This state-of-the-art survey presents the outcome of the 8th Symposium on Formal Methods for Components and Objects, held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in November 2009. The volume contains 17 revised contributions submitted after the symposium by speakers from each of the following European IST projects: the IST-FP6 project BIONETS on biologically inspired services evolution for the pervasive age; the IST-FP7 project COMPAS on compliance-driven models, languages, and architectures for services; the IST-FP6 project CREDO on modelling and analysis of evolutionary structures for distributed services; the IST-FP7 DEPLOY on industrial deployment of advanced system engineering methods for high productivity and dependability; the IST-FP7 project HATS on highly adaptable and trustworthy software using formal methods; the IST-FP7 project INESS on integrated European railway signalling system; the IST-FP7 project MOGENTES on model-based generation of tests for dependable embedded systems; the IST-FP6 project PROTEST on property based testing; and the IST-FP7 project QUASIMODO on quantitative system properties in model-driven-design of embedded systems.

Book Industrial Deployment of System Engineering Methods

Download or read book Industrial Deployment of System Engineering Methods written by Alexander Romanovsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-07-09 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A formal method is not the main engine of a development process, its contribution is to improve system dependability by motivating formalisation where useful. This book summarizes the results of the DEPLOY research project on engineering methods for dependable systems through the industrial deployment of formal methods in software development. The applications considered were in automotive, aerospace, railway, and enterprise information systems, and microprocessor design. The project introduced a formal method, Event-B, into several industrial organisations and built on the lessons learned to provide an ecosystem of better tools, documentation and support to help others to select and introduce rigorous systems engineering methods. The contributing authors report on these projects and the lessons learned. For the academic and research partners and the tool vendors, the project identified improvements required in the methods and supporting tools, while the industrial partners learned about the value of formal methods in general. A particular feature of the book is the frank assessment of the managerial and organisational challenges, the weaknesses in some current methods and supporting tools, and the ways in which they can be successfully overcome. The book will be of value to academic researchers, systems and software engineers developing critical systems, industrial managers, policymakers, and regulators.
