Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty last years have been marked by an increase in available data and computing power. In parallel to this trend, the focus of neural network research and the practice of training neural networks has undergone a number of important changes, for example, use of deep learning machines. The second edition of the book augments the first edition with more tricks, which have resulted from 14 years of theory and experimentation by some of the world's most prominent neural network researchers. These tricks can make a substantial difference (in terms of speed, ease of implementation, and accuracy) when it comes to putting algorithms to work on real problems.
Download or read book Advances in Geoscience and Remote Sensing written by Gary Jedlovec and published by IntechOpen. This book was released on 2009-10-01 with total page 754 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remote sensing is the acquisition of information of an object or phenomenon, by the use of either recording or real-time sensing device(s), that is not in physical or intimate contact with the object (such as by way of aircraft, spacecraft, satellite, buoy, or ship). In practice, remote sensing is the stand-off collection through the use of a variety of devices for gathering information on a given object or area. Human existence is dependent on our ability to understand, utilize, manage and maintain the environment we live in - Geoscience is the science that seeks to achieve these goals. This book is a collection of contributions from world-class scientists, engineers and educators engaged in the fields of geoscience and remote sensing.
Download or read book A New Automatic Processing Technique for Satellite Imagery Analysis written by R. S. Hawkins and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new approach to the analysis of satellite imagery is presented. The central part of this approach is an algorithm which compresses information stored in the ordinary six or eight bits per picture element into only one bit. The quality of this compression is demonstrated by examples of its application to high resolution visual imagery. Both visual inspection and rms difference criterion are used for this evaluation. There are four objectives of this report which are: to review the status of processing techniques which remove redundant information, to show the need for redundance reduction in the processing of satellite images, to present the development of an algorithm for reducing it, and to show results obtained by application of the algorithm to visual imagery. Also, comments are made on needed developments of the technique and its potential application to problems of analysis of satellite imagery data. (Author).

Download or read book Multisensor Data Fusion and Machine Learning for Environmental Remote Sensing written by Ni-Bin Chang and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-02-21 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few years the scientific community has realized that obtaining a better understanding of interactions between natural systems and the man-made environment across different scales demands more research efforts in remote sensing. An integrated Earth system observatory that merges surface-based, air-borne, space-borne, and even underground sensors with comprehensive and predictive capabilities indicates promise for revolutionizing the study of global water, energy, and carbon cycles as well as land use and land cover changes. The aim of this book is to present a suite of relevant concepts, tools, and methods of integrated multisensor data fusion and machine learning technologies to promote environmental sustainability. The process of machine learning for intelligent feature extraction consists of regular, deep, and fast learning algorithms. The niche for integrating data fusion and machine learning for remote sensing rests upon the creation of a new scientific architecture in remote sensing science that is designed to support numerical as well as symbolic feature extraction managed by several cognitively oriented machine learning tasks at finer scales. By grouping a suite of satellites with similar nature in platform design, data merging may come to help for cloudy pixel reconstruction over the space domain or concatenation of time series images over the time domain, or even both simultaneously. Organized in 5 parts, from Fundamental Principles of Remote Sensing; Feature Extraction for Remote Sensing; Image and Data Fusion for Remote Sensing; Integrated Data Merging, Data Reconstruction, Data Fusion, and Machine Learning; to Remote Sensing for Environmental Decision Analysis, the book will be a useful reference for graduate students, academic scholars, and working professionals who are involved in the study of Earth systems and the environment for a sustainable future. The new knowledge in this book can be applied successfully in many areas of environmental science and engineering.
Download or read book Assessment of Renewable Energy Resources with Remote Sensing written by Fernando Ramos Martins and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-03-18 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book “Assessment of Renewable Energy Resources with Remote Sensing" focuses on disseminating scientific knowledge and technological developments for the assessment and forecasting of renewable energy resources using remote sensing techniques. The eleven papers inside the book provide an overview of remote sensing applications on hydro, solar, wind and geothermal energy resources and their major goal is to provide state of art knowledge to contribute with the renewable energy resource deployment, especially in regions where energy demand is rapidly expanding. Renewable energy resources have an intrinsic relationship with local environmental features and the regional climate. Even small and fast environment and/or climate changes can cause significant variability in power generation at different time and space scales. Methodologies based on remote sensing are the primary source of information for the development of numerical models that aim to support the planning and operation of an electric system with a substantial contribution of intermittent energy sources. In addition, reliable data and knowledge on renewable energy resource assessment are fundamental to ensure sustainable expansion considering environmental, financial and energetic security.

Download or read book Geoinformatics written by A. Krishna Sinha and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The science of informatics in the broadest sense has been several thousands of years in the making. With the recent emergence of large storage devices and high-speed processing of data, it has become possible to organize vast amounts of data as digital products with ontologic tags and concepts for smart queries. Coupling this computational capability with earth science data defines the emerging field of geoinformatics. Since the science of geology was established several centuries ago, observations led to conclusions that were integrative in concept and clearly had profound implications for the birth of geology. As disciplinary information about Earth becomes more voluminous, the use of geoinformatics will lead to integrative, science-based discoveries of new knowledge about planetary systems. Twenty one research papers, co-authored by 96 researchers from both earth and computer sciences, provide the first-ever organized presentation of the science of informatics as it relates to geology. Readers will readily recognize the vast intellectual content represented by these papers as they seek to address the core research goals of geoinformatics."--Publisher's website.
