La parte 5 incluye el capítulo 10, dedicado a estudiar la confiabilidad de los sistemas electrónicos de control en general y la de los autómatas programables en particular. Hay que resaltar también que, para que el libro sea autocontenido, se incluyen en él cinco apéndices. En el apéndice 1 se estudian los conceptos de las Comunicaciones Digitales necesarios para comprender las Comunicaciones Industriales. En los apéndices 3, 4 y 5 se describen, respectivamente, la red de sensores y actuadores AS-i, la red de control PROFIBUS y la red Ethernet Industrial Profinet. En el apéndice 5 se analizan los principales conceptos asociados a la garantía de funcionamiento o confiabilidad de los sistemas electrónicos en general, necesarios para comprender los sistemas electrónicos de control seguros ante averías y de elevada disponibilidad. The urban environment in turn has a big impact on the performance and needs of buildings. The size, scale and mechanism of these interactions is poorly understood and strategies to mitigate them are rarely implemented. This is the first comprehensive book to address these questions. It arises out of a programme of work (POLISTUDIES) carried out for the Save programme of the European Commission. Chapters describe not only the main problems encountered such as the heat island and canyon effects, but also a range of design solutions that can be adopted both to improve the energy performance and indoor air quality of individual buildings and to look at aspects of urban design that can reduce these climatic effects. The book concludes with some examples of innovative urban bioclimatic buildings. The project was co-ordinated by Professor Mat Santamouris from the University of Athens who is also the editor of the book. Chapter 1 demonstrates that green star concrete exhibits the same structural properties as conventional concrete in Australia. Chapter 2 showed that the use of TiO2 as a photocatalyst on the surface of construction materials with a suitable stable binding agent, such as aggregates, would enable building walls to absorb NOx from air. This study found that TiO2 has the potential to reduce ambient concentrations of NOx from areas where this pollutant becomes concentrated under solar irradiation. Chapter 3 presents the life cycle assessment of architecturally integrated glass–glass photovoltaics in building facades to find the appropriate material composition for a multicolored PV façade offering improved environmental performance. Chapter 4 shows that urban office buildings lacking appropriate orientation experienced indoor overheating. Chapter 5 details four modeling approaches that were implemented to estimate buildings’ response towards load shedding. Chapter 6 covers the life cycle GHG emissions of high-rise residential housing block to discover opportunities for environmental improvement. Chapter 7 discusses an LCA framework that took into account variation in the service life of buildings associated with the use of different types of materials. Chapter 8 presents a useful data mining algorithm to conduct life cycle asset management in residential developments built on transport systems.
