Book Analysis and Design of Hybrid Systems 2003 ADHS 03

Download or read book Analysis and Design of Hybrid Systems 2003 ADHS 03 written by Sebastian Engell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-12-19 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before the Riders came to their remote valley the Yendri led a tranquil pastoral life. When the Riders conquered and enslaved them, only a few escaped to the forests. Rebellion wasn't the Yendri way; they hid, or passively resisted, taking consolation in the prophecies of their spiritual leader. Only one possessed the necessary rage to fight back: Gard the foundling, half-demon, who began a one-man guerrilla war against the Riders. His struggle ended in the loss of the family he loved, and condemnation from his own people. Exiled, he was taken as a slave by powerful mages ruling an underground kingdom. Bitterer and wiser, he found more subtle ways to earn his freedom. This is the story of his rise to power, his vengeance, his unlikely redemption and his maturation into a loving father--as well as a lord and commander of demon armies. Kage Baker, author of the popular and witty fantasy, The Anvil of the World, returns to that magical world for another story of love, adventure, and a fair bit of ironic humor. At the publisher's request, this title is being sold without Digital Rights Management software (DRM) applied.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A programmable logic controllers (PLC) is a real-time system optimized for use in severe conditions such as high/low temperatures or an environment with excessive electrical noise. This control technology is designed to have multiple interfaces (I/Os) to connect and control multiple mechatronic devices such as sensors and actuators. Programmable Logic Controllers, Fifth Edition, continues to be a straight forward, easy-to-read book that presents the principles of PLCs while not tying itself to one vendor or another. Extensive examples and chapter ending problems utilize several popular PLCs currently on the market highlighting understanding of fundamentals that can be used no matter the specific technology. Ladder programming is highlighted throughout with detailed coverage of design characteristics, development of functional blocks, instruction lists, and structured text. Methods for fault diagnosis, testing and debugging are also discussed. This edition has been enhanced with new material on I/Os, logic, and protocols and networking. For the UK audience only: This book is fully aligned with BTEC Higher National requirements.*New material on combinational logic, sequential logic, I/Os, and protocols and networking*More worked examples throughout with more chapter-ending problems*As always, the book is vendor agnostic allowing for general concepts and fundamentals to be taught and applied to several controllers

The objective, as in previous editions, was to show the state-of-the-art and to present new developments and research results in software and hardware for real-time control, as well as to bring together researchers, developers and practitioners, both from the academic and the industrial world. The AARTC'2000 Technical Program consisted of 11 presented sessions, covering the major areas of software, hardware and applications for real-time control. In particular, sessions adressed robotics, embedded systems, modeling and control, fuzzy logic methods, industrial process control and manufacturing systems, neural networks, parallel and distributed processing, processor architectures for control, software design tools and methodologies, and SCADA and multi-layer control. A total of 38 papers were selected from high-quality full draft papers and late breaking paper contributions (consisting of extended abstracts). Participants from 15 countries attended the AARTC'2000 workshop. The technical program also included two plenary talks given by leading experts in the field. Roger Goodall (Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Loughborough University, UK) presented "Perspectives on processing for real-time control", and Ricardo Sanz (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain), focused on "CORBA for Control Systems". Another highlight in the program was the final session on industrial presentations which was held in common with the Workshop on Real-Time Programming (WRTP'2000). In this session, Abel Jiménez (Industria de Turbo Propulsores S. A., Spain) presented the "Thrust Vectoring System Control Concept", Ulrich Schmid (Technische Universität Wien, Austria) made a presentation with the title "Applied Research: A Scientist's Perspective", and Harold W. Lawson (Lawson Konsult AB, Sweden) addressed "Systems Engineering of a Successful Train Control System".

Book Design of Embedded Control Systems

Download or read book Design of Embedded Control Systems written by Marian Andrzej Adamski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-06-28 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A set of original results in the ?eld of high-level design of logical control devices and systems is presented in this book. These concern different aspects of such important and long-term design problems, including the following, which seem to be the main ones. First, the behavior of a device under design must be described properly, and some adequate formal language should be chosen for that. Second, effective algorithmsshouldbeusedforcheckingtheprepareddescriptionforcorrectness, foritssyntacticandsemanticveri?cationattheinitialbehaviorlevel.Third, the problem of logic circuit implementation must be solved using some concrete technological base; ef?cient methods of logic synthesis, test, and veri?cation should be developed for that. Fourth, the task of the communication between the control device and controlled objects (and maybe between different control devices)waitsforitssolution.Alltheseproblemsarehardenoughandcannotbe successfully solved without ef?cient methods and algorithms oriented toward computer implementation. Some of these are described in this book. The languages used for behavior description have been descended usually from two well-known abstract models which became classic: Petri nets and ?nite state machines (FSMs). Anyhow, more detailed versions are developed and described in the book, which enable to give more complete information concerningspeci?cqualitiesoftheregardedsystems.Forexample, themodelof parallelautomatonispresented, whichunliketheconventional?niteautomaton can be placed simultaneously into several places, calledpartial. As a base for circuit implementation of control algorithms, FPGA is accepted in majority of cases.

Book The Second Self

Download or read book The Second Self written by Sherry Turkle and published by Touchstone. This book was released on 1984 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In The Second Self, Sherry Turkle looks at the computer not as a "tool," but as part of our social and psychological lives; she looks beyond how we use computer games and spreadsheets to explore how the computer affects our awareness of ourselves, of one another, and of our relationship with the world. "Technology," she writes, "catalyzes changes not only in what we do but in how we think." First published in 1984, The Second Self is still essential reading as a primer in the psychology of computation. This twentieth anniversary edition allows us to reconsider two decades of computer culture-to (re)experience what was and is most novel in our new media culture and to view our own contemporary relationship with technology with fresh eyes. Turkle frames this classic work with a new introduction, a new epilogue, and extensive notes added to the original text. Turkle talks to children, college students, engineers, AI scientists, hackers, and personal computer owners-people confronting machines that seem to think and at the same time suggest a new way for us to think-about human thought, emotion, memory, and understanding. Her interviews reveal that we experience computers as being on the border between inanimate and animate, as both an extension of the self and part of the external world. Their special place betwixt and between traditional categories is part of what makes them compelling and evocative. In the introduction to this edition, Turkle quotes a PDA user as saying, "When my Palm crashed, it was like a death. I thought I had lost my mind." Why we think of the workings of a machine in psychological terms-how this happens, and what it means for all of us-is the ever more timely subject of The Second Self. Book jacket.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Festschrift volume has been published in honor of Frank de Boer, on the occasion of his 60th birthday. Frank S. de Boer is a prominent member of the research community in formal methods and theoretical computer science. A brief look at his lengthy publication list reveals a broad area of interest and a versatile modus operandi with: logic and constraint programming; deductive proof systems, soundness, and completeness; semantics, compositionality, and full abstraction; process algebra and decidability; multithreading and actor-based concurrency; agent programming, ontologies, and modal logic; real-time systems, timed automata, and schedulability; enterprise architectures, choreography, and coordination; testing and runtime monitoring; and cloud computing and service-level agreements. For a while, he also liked failures, especially in semantics, and optimistically concluded with the failure of failures. In fact, Frank has an opportunistic approach to research. Rather than seeing obstacles, he finds opportunities.
