Dingoes dancing on tiptoes... Sugar Gliders munching on spiders... Blue-tongue lizards showering in the flowers... These are just some of the things our native creatures do to get ready for their night time. What do you do? Tuck your little ones in with this beautifully illustrated rock-a-bye lullaby. Metrical verses introduce us to a plethora of Australian fauna from Possums in the blossoms to Devils in the pebbles. All getting ready for the night. A lovely sleepy time story. – Jackie Hosking, Pass It On Children are fascinated by the night and all the fear and excitement that comes with it, as they explore the darkness with torches and see eyes peering back at them amongst the stars. In this gorgeous story, you will spy a variety of Australian animals preparing for the night. My favourite is definitely the boobook owl. The rhyme scheme and rhythm of this book make it a delight to read aloud and will make it a favourite. – Veronica Chapman, TeachEzy Waiting for the Night is an entrancing bedtime read for children under eight, filled with lilting verse and striking full colour spreads depicting Australian fauna in a stunning array of landscapes. Anna Seed’s vibrant palette provides eco-rich imagery that is as ample as the variety of native Aussie creatures who patiently wait for the sun to set so that they can feast and romp through the nocturnal hours. – Dimity Powell, Kids Book Review

Download or read book 3500 Days of Summer written by Greg Hannah and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-05-01 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 3500 Days of Summer is an enticingly addictive read. In the same vein as The Devil Wears Prada or The Nanny Diaries, 3500 Days of Summer is a blistering kiss-and-tell about the international resort industry. You'll be amazed at the dysfunctional lives of these people. A former nine-to-five investment banker, Hannah is literally thrown to the sharks for his first resort assignment in the Caribbean as a glorified bookkeeper for the resort's scuba team. Though Hannah is vastly over-educated for this job, he seems to take perverse pleasure in the non-stop abuse he suffers at the hands of sophisticated European travellers and staff. In an enviroment where the average work schedule is sixteen hours seven days a week, Hannah endures midnight rehearsals, tyrannical resort managers and the amorous attentions of a never-ending supply of beautiful women relentlessly throwing themselves at him. 3500 Days does for resorts what Animal House did for higher education.

Download or read book Overheard on a Saltmarsh written by Marcia Santore and published by Marcia Santore. This book was released on 2018-04-03 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A goblin is happily making salt-crystal "bling" for himself, until he spots the nymph's green glass beads and is overwhelmed by desire for them. He asks for the beads, he demands the beads, he whines and begs for the beads. But the nymph has her own purpose for the beads, using them to do her science-magic ... Marcia Santore's colorful pictures retell the story of Overheard on a Saltmarsh, introducing Harold Monro's beloved poem to a new generation of children, while raising an important question: Just because some guy asks you for something, does that mean you have to give it him? Children (and adults!) will identify with the envy and desire of the tantruming goblin on the one hand, and with the serious-minded work of the gentle but firm nymph. The book also provides an opportunity to talk with children about when sharing is important and when maintaining personal boundaries is important, as well as the difference between "want" and "need." And that sometimes the right answer is "No." Don't miss the salt crystal-making activity in the back!

Book Amalie Christine Jencken 1785 to 1878 From Estonia to Ireland to Australia and Inbetween

Download or read book Amalie Christine Jencken 1785 to 1878 From Estonia to Ireland to Australia and Inbetween written by Victoria Joan Moessner and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amalie Christine was born in Estonia in 1785. Her mother died in 1799. In 1800 she married Baron Gustav Andreas von Tiesenhausen (1778-1854), a member of one of the wealthiest families in Estonia. After 18 years of marriage and several children, she ran away with her personal physician Dr. Ferdinand Jencken, who was also married. They went by way of Germany and Denmark, where their son Eduard/Edward was born, to the German émigré colony in London. Dr. Jencken opened a practice. Over the course of her life time, she lived in London, Mainz, St. Petersburg, the Isle of Guernsey, Londonderry, and Dublin near where she and Ferdinand are buried. In 1848, her son Eduard went to Australia with his wife Ellen seeking a livelihood. At age 84 after a severe illness, she wrote her Memoirs and sent them to Edward. From the time of his leaving England until her death, she wrote Edward and his family. Fortunately, the memoirs and these letters have been preserved in Australia. She is a woman who lived for and through her husband and children, who knew life in Europe from serfdom in Estonia to the 1848 revolution in Germany to the Franco-Prussian War and to intensifying russification in Estonia through the letters from her oldest son, Hermann von Tiesenhausen. She truly lived a remarkable life for a woman in nineteenth century Europe.

Book Waiting for the Night Song

Book excerpt: Named a Most Anticipated book by Newsweek * USA Today * CNN * Parade * Buzzfeed * Medium * GoodReads * PopSugar * Frolic Media * Betches * The Nerd Daily * SheReads and more "Smart and searingly passionate...an illuminating snapshot of nature, betrayal, and sacrifices set in the evocative New Hampshire wilderness."--Kim Michele Richardson, bestselling author of The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek A startling and timely debut, Julie Carrick Dalton's Waiting for the Night Song is a moving, brilliant novel about friendships forged in childhood magic and ruptured by the high price of secrets that leave you forever changed. Cadie Kessler has spent decades trying to cover up one truth. One moment. But deep down, didn’t she always know her secret would surface? An urgent message from her long-estranged best friend Daniela Garcia brings Cadie, now a forestry researcher, back to her childhood home. There, Cadie and Daniela are forced to face a dark secret that ended both their idyllic childhood bond and the magical summer that takes up more space in Cadie’s memory then all her other years combined. Now grown up, bound by long-held oaths, and faced with truths she does not wish to see, Cadie must decide what she is willing to sacrifice to protect the people and the forest she loves, as drought, foreclosures, and wildfire spark tensions between displaced migrant farm workers and locals. Waiting for the Night Song is a love song to the natural beauty around us, a call to fight for what we believe in, and a reminder that the truth will always rise. Book Liminality Transgression and Space Across the World

Download or read book Liminality Transgression and Space Across the World written by Basak Tanulku and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-03-05 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses various forms of liminality and transgression in different geographies and demonstrates how and why various physical and symbolic boundaries create liminality and transgression. Its focus is on comprehending the ways in which these borders and boundaries generate liminality and transgression rather than viewing them solely as issues. It provides case studies from the past and present, allowing readers to connect subjects, periods, and geographies. It consists of theoretical and empirical chapters that demonstrate how borders and liminality are interconnected. The book also benefits from the power of several visual essays by artists to complete the theoretical and empirical chapters which demonstrate different forms of liminality without need of much words. The book will be of interest to researchers and students working in the fields of urban and rural studies, urban sociology, cities and communities, urban and regional planning, urban anthropology, political science, migration studies, human geography, cultural geography, urban anthropology, and visual arts.
