Book excerpt: Some things do not change, God and kingdom values. There are things in our cultures that do not correspond to that. There are some parts of our culture that we have to let go of, some we can hold onto, things handed down to us, need to be re-evaluated. Thank you Adrian for helping me to learn to cherish things from my culture that God wants to redeem. Jenny Sinnadurai. Sri Lanka. Church leader And Church Planter In this insightful book Adrian raises the important neglected issue of culture in a thought-provoking way. Culture constantly changes, so must we. A challenging book and, if we allow a broadening of our horizons as we work through it, potentially life-changing! A fantastic and must-use tool for any group wanting to gain an understanding of Culture together. Ann Clifford Film Producer/Script Writer United Kingdom Each community faces different challenges. If we try and change without the spirit of God that could be death. Culture may stop us from experiencing all that God has for us. We load ourselves with transmitted patterns in thinking and action which makes us artificial products. If you are alive, change is inevitable. Adrian, you have done it again: You have helped me learn different ways of looking at and doing-stuff! Sammy Nawali Church leader and Entrepreneur Nakuru Kenya East Africa
Download or read book I Was a Foster Carer written by Adrian Hawkes and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2021-04-01 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a social worker and foster carer, I am inspired sometimes and frustrated often. In this book Adrian skilfully challenges statutory and voluntary complexities asking us to consider a simple question "does this work for this child?" For those that have considered fostering or have fostered, for those that have dedicated themselves to improving outcomes for vulnerable children....... there is no quick fix or even a 'right way' but just wonky wheels that need reinventing. Here Adrian skilfully challenges statutory and voluntary complexities but through it all inspires all of us to question "are we listening to the child & each other and is this working?" Blair Mortimer Bsc Social Work. Statuary social worker. Adrian is a believer in God and in people. His real-life stories from fostering are told in a raw and honest way. At a time when more foster homes are needed than ever before there are surely many who will be inspired by his humour and vulnerability to dare to start the journey into fostering for themselves. Both joys and challenges will lie ahead but Adrian has shown that there are many who will one day look back at their lives and thank God for precious memories of the little things you did, and said, and quite simply the fact that you were there - for them. Stuart Lindsell BA Theology. Social Pedagogue Trainer for Foster Care.

Book excerpt: Our problem is that sometimes we cannot hear properly; and sometimes for all sorts of reasons we fail to understand. A bit like a child who develops communication and they grow and mature in communication skills. It is not immediate; and actually we continue to develop interpersonal communications for the whole of our lives. Many of us could enjoy the same experience (journey) in our communications with God. "It's interesting that as we get older we cut out certain frequencies. Sometimes our ears are just not attuned, or sometimes it's because of distraction, like when I pull up in my car and start talking to my next door neighbour and sub-consciously disregard the regular bell-like pulse of my alarm that tells me the fact that I've left my lights on to my peril. Perhaps the alarm is ringing and this book will help you to hear it."-Dave Bilbrough, International worship leader and songwriter

This book was released on 1985-02-01 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do government-sponsored youth employment programs actually help? Between 1978 and 1981, the Youth Employment and Demonstration Projects Act (YEDPA) funded extensive programs designed to aid disadvantaged youth. The Committee on Youth Employment Programs examined the voluminous research performed by YEDPA and produced a comprehensive report and evaluation of the YEDPA efforts to assist the underprivileged. Beginning with YEDPA's inception and effective lifespan, this report goes on to analyze the data it generated, evaluate its accuracy, and draw conclusions about which YEDPA programs were effective, which were not, and why. A discussion of YEDPA strategies and their perceived value concludes the volume.
Download or read book Improving Urban America written by United States. Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report, an update of an earlier report from the Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations, presents a review of urban America and its governmental capabilities. Chapters focus on: (1) urban America today (major aspects of the urban problem, changes in urban problems, changes in the perception of urban problem solving, and programs for meeting urban needs); (2) overcoming the urban fiscal problem (the plight of central cities, Federal action, State action, and the development of an effective and equitable state and local revenue system); (3) improving services in urban America; (4) restructuring local governments (the Federal role, and others); (5) solving the problem of metropolitan areas (urban development, urbanization, building requirements, urban development planning and land use regulation, and urban development policy framework); and (6) intergovernmental problems and strategies for the future. The report concludes that urban society is worth saving. The connection between the high standard of living in America and the urban setting of most American activity today is not coincidental. What is called for is a series of actions which will produce, at the end, a revitalized American urban scene. The Federal system already has begun to change. yet the need for urban statemanship at all levels remains great. (Author).

Download or read book Coaching Youth Soccer written by Kevin McShane and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2010-06-28 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The popularity of youth soccer in the United States has increased dramatically in recent years. The number of players and spectators has risen and soccer now rivals the more traditional American sports of baseball, basketball, and football. This is a study of current youth soccer training methods at professional clubs in Europe--where soccer is an extremely competitive sport--and a guide to applying those methods to young people in the United States. The author draws much of his information from personal observation of the FC Barcelona, Newcastle United, Glasgow Celtic, Munich 1860, and Slavia Prague professional teams in Europe, and provides an overview of the state of youth soccer in the United States. Chapters cover such topics as facilities, equipment, organization, and environment, player evaluation, training timetables and components, coaching, and philosophies of youth soccer. Also included are approximately 100 diagrams of soccer training exercises for youth coaches.

Download or read book How Institutions Evolve written by Kathleen Thelen and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004-09-06 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The institutional arrangements governing skill formation are widely seen as a key element in the institutional constellations defining 'varieties of capitalism' across the developed democracies. This book explores the origins and evolution of such institutions in four countries - Germany, Britain, the United States and Japan. It traces cross-national differences in contemporary training regimes back to the nineteenth century, and specifically to the character of the political settlement achieved among employers in skill-intensive industries, artisans, and early trade unions. The book also tracks evolution and change in training institutions over a century of development, uncovering important continuities through putative 'break points' in history. Crucially, it also provides insights into modes of institutional change that are incremental but cumulatively transformative. The study underscores the limits of the most prominent approaches to institutional change, and identifies the political processes through which the form and functions of institutions can be radically reconfigured over time.
