Download or read book Hmong related Works 1996 2006 written by Mark Edward Pfeifer and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hmong are a mountain-dwelling subgroup of the Miao of southwest China. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, they began migrating southeast to Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. In the second half of the twentieth century, mainly because of their participation in the Second Indochina War (1954-1975), the Hmong began migrating to the West. Today the Hmong are one of the fastest-growing ethnic populations in the United States, increasing from about 94,000 in the 1990 census to approximately 190,000 in the U.S. Census Bureau's 2005 American Community Survey. With this rapid expansion, there has been a substantially increased interest in Hmong-related written works; multimedia materials; and websites among students, scholars, service professionals, and the general public. To help meet this interest, Mark Edward Pfeifer has compiled Hmong-Related Works, 1996-2006. An Annotated Bibliography, which includes full reference information (including Internet links to articles) and descriptive summaries for more than 600 Hmong-related works. Book jacket.

Book Exploring the Beliefs and Attitudes About Deaf Education of Mexican American Parents in the South Texas Mexico Border

Download or read book Exploring the Beliefs and Attitudes About Deaf Education of Mexican American Parents in the South Texas Mexico Border written by Yessica S Rodríguez and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a previous investigation, we examined the differences in beliefs and attitudes about deaf education between Hispanic and non-Hispanic parents of deaf children (Rodríguez & Allen, 2018). Results from that study indicated that Hispanic parents of deaf children showed more positive attitudes towards approaches to education that originated from a medical orientation (as opposed to a social and linguistic orientation) towards deafness. To date, Hispanics and Latinx are often grouped altogether in research studies without differentiating in nationality, culture, or geographic location, which is one of the main challenges in the field of Latinx Psychology research. Therefore, this study originally aimed to build upon those results and focus on a homogenous sample of parents of Mexican-American DHH children living in the South Texas-Mexico border. The goal was to use the Beliefs and Attitudes about Deaf Education Scale (Clark et al., 2013) to explore the attitudinal perspectives of Mexican-American parents and to compare their scores to those of the national sample of Hispanic and non-Hispanic parents in the previous study. However, the COVID-19 global pandemic resulted in major changes to the original study, data collection, methodology, and planned procedures. Therefore, the original research questions and the analyses were modified, and only a small sample of Mexican-American parents was recruited. The current study used an exploratory analysis approach to examine the differences between Mexican-American parents living in the Rio Grande Valley region in South Texas compared to the national sample of Hispanic parents in the previous study. The present study also examined a variety of demographic characteristics of DHH children of Hispanic and Mexican-American parents. -- Abstract

Book Brochure Guide on Internet Resources for Hearing Parents of Deaf Children

Download or read book Brochure Guide on Internet Resources for Hearing Parents of Deaf Children written by Gabriela Ruiz and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Valid, reliable, and unbiased information is critical for the outcomes of Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) children of hearing parents, yet there is no guide informing parents of the criteria to help distinguish the information they find via the Internet. Prevailing literature demonstrates parents are accessing the Internet and finding information about hearing loss (Porter & Edirippulige, 2007). In addition, the first information parents receive from a professional with current knowledge on deafness could be as early as 4-6 weeks old (Matthijs, Loots, Mouvet, Van Herreweghe, Hardonk, Van Hove, Van Puyvelde, & Leigh 2012). Furthermore, parents reported information catered to profoundly DHH children making it biased and not servicing all DHH children (Porter & Edirippulige, 2007). For this project a brochure containing the criteria needed to distinguish the biased and unbiased points of view will be developed for possible future implementation and research. Using the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) Instructional Design (ID) Model will ensure adequate conception of this project. Distribution scenarios and potential future application are included.
